old news but I say good nontheless. everyone has to have an easy schedule some time. we only get 6 home games next year.
6/15/2009 2:23:16 PM
^yeah, hopefully the early slate of easy games will give our O line time to develop and get the running game going.
6/15/2009 2:54:59 PM
The only problem I have is with 2 1-AA games, even though I know the second one is a result of ECU bailingIt makes it look like we're going out of our way to have the easiest schedule possible
6/15/2009 2:58:16 PM
how many times must we go through this. ECU didn't bail. They requested the game be rescheduled until the east endzone expansion of Dowdy is complete.
6/15/2009 3:02:22 PM
Either way, thats the reason we have 2 FCS teamsCall it what you want
6/15/2009 3:10:20 PM
i really don't care about SOS. Mack Brown built up the Holes playing cupcake schedules early, and aren't schedules done like 3-4 years in advance? I'm sure once TOB gets things going like he wants, the SOS will get a little tougher
6/15/2009 3:20:10 PM
I really don't think it matters very much, especially since we're not really in contention to go to the BCS title game, we have to win the ACC to make it to a BCS bowl anyway so it's not like it really hurts us at all. This isn't basketball where SOS can keep you out of the tournament.
6/15/2009 3:32:09 PM
It can keep you out of the national title game if three teams have the same record as you (see Auburn in 2004), even though that was also partly due to the fact that they started so low in the polls to begin with.[Edited on June 15, 2009 at 4:01 PM. Reason : ]

look at the schedule! it's doable!
6/15/2009 4:12:55 PM
^^^ No, but on the .001% chance we did, it sure would suck to potentially miss out on the national title game because of it.[Edited on June 15, 2009 at 4:13 PM. Reason : asdf]
6/15/2009 4:13:30 PM
There are about 8-10 teams who would make it to the NC game with 1 loss ahead of us going undefeated
6/15/2009 4:14:57 PM
6/15/2009 4:17:31 PM
I surely hope not. Let's try and win the division first before we as fans start expecting undefeated seasons. I'm not saying that a 12-0, 11-1, or heck even a 10-2 season couldn't happen this year, b/c anything can happen in college football (see Missouri, Texas Tech, and Kansas in recent years), but let's just hope for improvement this year.
6/15/2009 4:18:31 PM
^^^ If we only have one FCS team on the schedule, no. How else would have South Florida made it up to number 2 two years ago (before they lost)?
6/15/2009 4:24:02 PM
Because that was a crazy year and everybody was losingFucking BC was number two at one point
6/15/2009 4:28:03 PM
^ That's my point though. If everybody is losing, and by some miracle we go undefeated (with only one FCS team on our schedule), we would play in the national championship. We are a BCS conference team after all. It's not like we're Utah or Boise State or something.
6/15/2009 4:31:43 PM
6/15/2009 4:32:01 PM
There's always a "if the stars alligned" scenarioIt just doesn't make much sense to discuss it untill we're sitting at 6-0 in OctoberThat said, its June and theres really nothing else to discuss in this thread, so prognosticate away
6/15/2009 4:36:19 PM
^^ Dude, you're missing my point entirely. Slave is trying to make it seem like if we were to go UNDEFEATED with only one FCS team on our schedule (not one loss, but undefeated), and there were other BCS teams out there with one loss, they would still make it in over us. I'm saying if we were to go undefeated under those circumstances, there is no way we don't play in the national title game. I referenced South Florida a couple of years ago because they are a team similar to us in team and conference stature and they made it to #2 in the BCS because everyone else lost as Slave pointed out. Had they finished out the season undefeated, they would have played in the title game. ^ And I totally agree, but as you said, it's June...there's nothing else to do.
6/15/2009 4:40:24 PM
and 6-0 in October isn't a crazy thought5 home games and at Wake....could be sitting pretty come October 10th
6/15/2009 4:43:57 PM
6/15/2009 4:47:00 PM
^ Ok, so you aren't missing the point. It's conjecture on both of our parts. You're going one way with yours and I'm going the other way. Under the circumstances I described, I just can't see a 1-loss team (no matter who they are) jumping us in the BCS computers. Apparently you can. Cool. If it ever came to that, I sure hope to hell that I'm right, as I'm sure would hope as well.
6/15/2009 4:55:51 PM
...Ok, I realize we're in the sports dry spell of year, have nothing to talk about, and no I don't mind talking hypothticals. But just a little reminder for thsoe of you posting about "going 12-0"...In football NC State has:1) Not won the historically (and currently) mediocre ACC since 1979.2) An all-time W/L record around 0.500 or so.3) Never played in, much less won a BCS Bowl.4) Never finished the year in the AP Top 10.5) Finished in the AP Top 25 once in the past 15 years.Winning the freakin' conference would be fucking spectacular in my opinion. Going 12-0 and being in the NC conversation? I think I'll keep that filed under "wishful thinking" and leave it at that.

6/15/2009 6:23:07 PM
6/15/2009 6:28:11 PM
^I don't really see that as a problem, if we go 6-6 with our schedule this year we wouldn't deserve to go to a bowl game...not that I'm advocating scheduling 2 FCS schools, but our schedule is easy enough that anything worse than 7-5 would be a failure as far as I'm concerned.[Edited on June 15, 2009 at 6:52 PM. one thing i noticed at the end of the year, and watching that video that i really appreciate about that team last year....is that nobody ran away from contact. Those were some hungry fuckers at the end of the year
6/15/2009 9:01:25 PM
haha. Love how even owen was surprised that he held onto that first touchdown pass.
6/15/2009 9:03:05 PM
Maybe our linebackers will try to run over a QB instead of trying to juke them out this year...
6/15/2009 9:15:28 PM
That video above makes me appreciate Andre even more. I hope our RBs this year can play like Brown did down the stretch. Also Russell = please stay healthy.

Sept. 3 South Carolina - On paper we should win this game. USC lost a good many players, and Garcia sucks. We should remember that 34-0 did happen though, even though we had a ton of injured players. Carter-Finley should be rocking for this game and I'm sure the players want revenge. A great showing by us could go a long way in repairing the ACC's image and thrust us into the national spotlight.Sept. 12 Murray State - CupcakeSept. 19 Gardner Webb - CupcakeSept. 26 Pittsburgh - We should be favored to win this game, but they could still be a challenge if they find some semblance of an offense. The talent for both teams isn't too different.Oct. 3 @ Wake Forest - It seems so odd that we haven't won in W-S since 2001. The encouraging news is that we beat them last year with all those draft picks that they had. A depleted WF team is good news for us, but they will still be fundamentally sound and our first road test.Oct. 10 Duke - Should be a win, but the Dookies always give us a tough game for some reason.Oct. 17 @ Boston College - Should be a win based on matchups, but we haven't had much success against BC since they joined the league. We will probably start seeing some of the effects of TOB leaving and Jags subpar recruiting. They may still be a hard out b/c of their o-line which is still one of the best in the nation according to the experts.Oct. 31 @ Florida State - Very tough game for us, but we usually play FSU tough. They are basically a rivalry game for us. We can beat them, but I wouldn't bet on it. Nov. 7 Maryland - I never feel good versus Maryland, but they lost a ton of seniors, so hopefully we can get them back for the past two years.Nov. 14 Clemson - Always a tough game due to them usually having more talent than us. We've got the better and more seasoned coach though. Plus it's at home.Nov. 21 @ Virginia Tech - Our toughest test by far. Lane Stadium is no easy place to win. We will have to play mistake free ball to escape with a win.Nov. 28 North Carolina - I'm expecting a beatdown again. Bitch Davis - 0, Major Tom - 2 soon to be 3.
6/16/2009 8:56:49 AM
We can definitely beat every team on our schedule. We won't, but there's not one team that scares me, for once.

^^^ way up thereWhy is anyone even talking about going 12-0......we haven't even had our first game yet, isn't it a bit early to even amuse ourselves with that kind of thinking? That's exactly the attitude that frustrates NC State fans year after year. Every year we all get our hopes up talking about how good we should be before we even see the team play that year (goes for bball and football). Every team has bad days, i just hope we have fewer than usual.........that being said, if we go 10-2 or even 9-3 i'll be ecstatic [Edited on June 16, 2009 at 10:12 AM. Reason : .]

Awesome video, one of my favorite parts as at 8:40 when our place kicker runs down the Miami return man and takes him down. Sumbitch was haulin' ass. As if I weren't impatient and pumped enough for football season!!

Play the %'sDate - Opponent - % chance State winsSept. 3 South Carolina - 0.75Sept. 12 Murray State - 1.0Sept. 19 Gardner Webb - 1.0Sept. 26 Pittsburgh - 0.7 - Don't know enough about these guys admittedly, but I'd still call State a favorite here at home.Oct. 3 @ Wake Forest - 0.6, State has the edge on paper, but against Wake there's no telling...Oct. 10 Duke - 0.9 - At home against Duke? Gotta win this, but still you never know what Cutcliffe will pull out of his ass...Oct. 17 @ Boston College - 0.75 - On paper State wins in a walk, but it's on the road against a motivated team and a belligerent albeit small fanbase Oct. 31 @ Florida State - 0.4 - On the road against a tough opponent, but the talent level disparity isn't as wide as it was last year by a long shot. I'm still not sold on FSU being as good as everyone expects too.Nov. 7 Maryland - 0.7 - I expect a win, except that it's Maryland and they always seem to pull some shit on us.Nov. 14 Clemson - 0.7 - I like our chance here too, especially b/c it's at home. Clemson still has talent though, so we'll see.Nov. 21 @ Virginia Tech - 0.25 - Winning this game would be freakin' awesome, but unlikely as things stand. If Tyrod Taylor doesn't pan out at QB, however, this oculd become a much better matchup for the Pack. Either way I'll be there to root them on Nov. 28 North Carolina - 1.0 - I hate the tarholes. We were better last year, and we'll be even better this year. State rolls at home. I will not acknowledge that the 'holes even have a chance in this one...Total = 8.15 wins
