When I go back to Jacksonville to visit my parents these days, we pretty much agree to listen to just Bob Dylan or something like that when we're in the car. He thinks all the contemporary music I listen to is weird.

What are your thoughts on Built to Spill?
8/20/2010 8:06:34 AM
why do people like panda bear? the only thing i can think of is maybe the 20-years-ago irony cycle isn't enough for some people, so they're pulling a DOUBLE IRONI-RETRO and listening to something that could have been retro in the late 80s, and sounds like brian wilson, pilled out of his gourd (but i repeat myself), recording underwater. to me, it just sounds godawful to me.also, i just bought tix to see stars at cat's cradle and almost immediately regretted it because i can totally imagine them being horrible live, did i make a grievous error?[Edited on August 20, 2010 at 9:23 AM. ^^^ love built to spill^^ panda bear is talented, but just like the rest of the AC dudes, left to his own devices he can get too out there for me. some kids like shit that is out there, but a lot of kids like the idea of liking shit that is out there. meh. i've never seen stars live.^ rock & roll is not dead, because harlem and the marked men exist

can you explain harmonic intervals to me?most importantlywhat keys on a keyboard do I hit if I want to play a minor seventh?a major seventh?a major second?a minor second?a diminished fifth?
10/1/2010 3:57:44 AM
the easiest way to learn them is to learn the number of half-steps in each intervalthere's a good chart here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interval_(music)#Main_intervalsthe number on the left is how many keys apart you'd press for any given interval
10/1/2010 1:12:51 PM
Hi Vinaybandit,I'm a huge 1980s new wave fan. Can you direct me to some of your modern hipster music that embodies the same sound?
10/1/2010 1:56:16 PM

Name a better female rock vocalist than Kim Deal.Because I'm curious.
11/25/2010 1:50:11 AM
Are we talking a better VOCALIST, or a better all-around female badass amazing dynamo who happens to sing occasionally?Because I can think of plenty of the former, but the only person who comes close to challenging Kim Deal on the latter is PJ Harvey.
11/25/2010 1:54:37 AM
Well either works.I wan't so much talking better VOCALIST strictly in terms of technical ability to sing, but in terms of being awesome at rock vocals (see: Gigantic, Into the White). So I suppose somewhere between the two things you mentioned.
11/25/2010 1:58:19 AM
So thinking about this just brings me to clips of why Kim Deal is probably the coolest female in the history of rock music.
11/25/2010 2:08:15 AM
Indeed, sir. I concur.
