I've been doing a modified P90X program for 10 weeks now. I pick 3 P90X work outs and do them for 6 weeks and then change it up. I try to pick three that will do a good all body work out. I'm running outside 2 days a week and walking one day a week. Eating really clean. I've definitely noticed a lot of changes. And today I did my first pull up without assistance. W00t!

I found a guy on Craigslist in Raleigh that is selling copies for $20. I paypal'd him and I received burned copies of all workouts and cd of documents for P90. Was worth it since you dont have to do the work to burn the cds

What's your take on adding a chest day (db presses and flys) after say back/legs day. I'd do high weight/low rep. I always feel my chest appearance significantly legs behind everything else.
6/3/2011 10:13:06 AM
Just don't workout as hard on leg days.

6/21/2011 2:04:38 PM
but I got a soccer match tomorrow
6/21/2011 2:08:43 PM
Plyometrics will probably most certainly kick your ass (and legs). Prepare to sweat buckets!
6/21/2011 3:57:13 PM
holy crap my legssss it hurts so good hopefully soccer will limber them up someshoulders and arms + ab ripper wasn't nearly as bad...definitely will have to up the weights on some exercises...kinda sucks when you're working with a set of dumbbells that have the whole put on or take off plates to change weights[Edited on June 22, 2011 at 4:25 PM. 6/22/2011 4:22:45 PM
legs and back makes me more sore than anything else.my butt feels like I got punched in each cheek.done with 2 weeks as of yesterday...no lookin back. already seeing results in pullups and abs.feeling good.
6/22/2011 4:26:20 PM
I bought 50LB powerblocks for quick switching weights, and my P90x workouts are so much better as a result. Best exercise investment in a long time. I fly through the workouts now and feel much more pumped when I'm done.
6/23/2011 9:52:47 AM
I wanted to buy some pretty badly but just opted for two sets of the 40lb weight sets and just use the time changing weights as mini breaks so that I can lift/pull/curl more when ready.
6/23/2011 10:18:01 AM
core synergistics for the first time tonight...we will see how this goes.
6/30/2011 7:42:43 PM
You'll like it. It will work some things that you might not be super comfortable with at first but as long as you remember to use your core and not cheat then you won't do things like hurt your back.
6/30/2011 7:47:49 PM
I suck at core stuff so maybe it will help and get it feeling good. thanks for that though, now I will be conscious of it and that should help.

Any heavier guys use the pull-up bars successfully/safely? I'm going to be starting this again in a week or two (did it for a few months a couple of years ago) and now live in a place where I can use a pull-up bar instead of just the bands. So I bought this one from walmart http://www.walmart.com/ip/Perfect-Fitness-Perfect-Multi-Gym/16608372 and was putting it together and noticed it had a 220lb weight limit. I'm a bit over that. Ok 30ish pounds over it and was just wondering if anyone else had used it that was over the limit? Or do other setups have higher limits? I don't want to be unsafe, but I was really looking forward to using a pull up bar this time instead of just the bands like I did last time.[Edited on July 25, 2011 at 4:32 PM. Reason : hj]
7/25/2011 4:31:22 PM
I was at 233 when I did a pull up that made the bar sink into the doorframe ...but it was just a crappy frame
7/25/2011 5:28:11 PM
I had that pull up bar (or one identical). It worked well, but it was creaky and bendy for me when I did wide grip, and I was 185 at the time.Maybe shell out the funds for a dip/pullup stand if you have the space and you're that committed.

So who's interested in P90X-2?
9/12/2011 5:24:00 PM
I'm interested, but I'm broke so I won't be getting it for a while
9/12/2011 5:33:33 PM
Started again, this time making a more concerted effort to workout every day. So far have only missed one day. On week 2 of the lean program, got up at 530am. today and did Yoga.still fucking hate yoga, but I can at least get through most of it now.
10/20/2011 9:45:44 AM
I attempted p90x, but my muscles got too confused.
10/20/2011 12:33:34 PM
Back on it for the 2nd round. got my roomate on it too. Think she will respond well, she really could do well on this program and lose a LOT of weight so we will see.
12/6/2011 4:43:00 PM
My dad got P90X2, so I tried a workout with him yesterday. It was not nearly as exhausting as I remember P90X. The workouts seem to be much more core and stability based. My dad said he had already done 3 days and yesterday was the hardest. I'd like to see what he says after going through the full 90 day program.
12/12/2011 10:53:07 AM
In light of my recent back surgery, my wife is now more keenly interested in exercising. Before she was running like a mad dog (about 4-6 miles every other day). Now she wants to start doing P90X again (we initially started it in '09 but lost motivation...and then my back problems came up again).Anyway, she did Plyo today and almost threw up. The first time i did Plyo, I did throw up. After my full recovery when my L4-L5 joints are officially L45, I will look to see if P90X is okay to do.But for the rest of you....keep pressing play and bringing it!
12/14/2011 8:27:55 PM
I'm starting P90X on January 2nd.I finish P90 Masters (one step below P90X) on Saturday.I completed Power90 (two steps below P90X) almost 3 1/2 months ago.Friggin STOKED. It's funny, because I haven't even started P90X, and I'm already in the best shape of my life. (I've never been an athlete before... I love the fact that I can be active now)
12/15/2011 5:42:32 AM
I very much need to start this again. I may look into a Jan. 3 starting date as well to get the new year started twice. I need to be in shape by the end so I can survive the impending end of the world!
12/15/2011 10:57:03 AM
looks like p90x2 just came out. i might have to check it out.
12/16/2011 10:40:05 AM
ive heard it's pretty awesome, but you'll need more things at home, like an exercise ball, small medicine ball, etc. Still worth it imo
12/16/2011 12:07:40 PM
I'm apparently late to the P90X Party, but I love it.My 2 cents.
2/11/2012 5:56:28 AM
I started p90x in mid January with my wife and we are about done with the first thirty days. I thought it would be too intense for my wife as she has never done anything athletic in her life, but she has done great with the move variations they give and now she has worked up to doing alot of the actual moves on the video. That first week was rough, though. We both walked around the house in pain, probably pretty funny looking back on it.Neither of us have lost much weight, but we both have significantly different measurements than when we started. We don't really follow the meal plan or supplements, but we have been eating generally healthier and I usually followup workouts with a glass of milk. I also don't do kenpo or yoga. I typically ride my bike, play basketball or some other aerobic activity on those days. Not sure how that will affect my results, but I have been happy enough with my progress so far. I may post the final results in here when we finish.Protip: If any of you do this with your wife/gf, don't spend the first few workouts critiquing their form. They tend not to appreciate the help as much as you would think. [Edited on February 11, 2012 at 7:52 AM. Reason : d]

Jo, the Kenpo X I can understand missing out on, but I feel like the Yoga really increases your flexibility. I know it sucks, I definitely hated it at first, but I've grown to enjoy it and I still burn a heck of a lot of calories doing it.Give it some time and see if it grows on you. That extra flexibility has really helped me in almost all aspects. My kicks (course, that's in Kenpo X) have gotten a lot better because of the flexibility I gain in Yoga X.
2/11/2012 5:50:24 PM
I can't do quite a few of the yoga moves, but that's not why I don't like it. I still stick with the chest and back workout even though I can barely do a pullup or two of each move. It's that it is way too long for my taste and so incredibly slow paced and boring, I just can't convince myself to do it on a week in week out basis. So rather than being completely unmotivated to do a workout I hate once a week, I decided after the first two tries that I would just substitute it with something else.I guess the end state of being more flexible isn't enough to get me doing it every week. I would rather devote the time to cycling or something. [Edited on February 12, 2012 at 8:12 AM. Reason : d]

I agree that you should do a workout that you're motivated to do vs a workout you don't want to do and might not do anything because of that. However, I think you'll find if you give yoga your all for a couple of different times, you'll like it. And it will kick your butt. I'm a bigger guy myself and couldn't do most of the moves when I first started, however got better. And I would also sweat a lot more during yoga than any other workout in the program.
2/12/2012 8:33:24 AM
I am not sure if this has been posted in this thread before (haven't read every post of these 22 pages). But if you're not quite into yoga, I suggest you watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2-CLZLqo4ATrust me, I understand. I hated P90X yoga, and I couldn't ever get into it. But it is useful.
2/12/2012 10:27:28 AM
The P90x One-on-one Yoga and the P90x2 Yoga are both about an hour, so way shorter than the first Yoga. Not as repetitive, either.
2/12/2012 12:35:12 PM
^^The thing is, I get all of that, and I don't even disagree. I don't hate yoga because it's hard. All of the other workouts are hard and I like those fine. I am used to pushing my body with running, triathlon and soccer since I was a kid. In my mind, all those benefits he talks about are outweighed by the fact that I dread the 90 minute yoga workout and because I dread it, I will very likely not stick with it longterm. I'd much rather do other beneficial workouts that I enjoy and look forward to. I haven't ever tried other yoga workouts and I would be open to it, but if I am gonna spend 90 minutes doing something, it damn sure isn't gonna be doing slight variations of the warrior pose 75 times with some downward dog thrown in. I'd rather be stiff and inflexible and deal with the occasional soreness that results from it.
2/12/2012 2:38:04 PM
The yoga was ok but to me pretty much felt like an off day. I place the same value on the stretch video
2/12/2012 4:52:50 PM
Started it yesterday morning, did the second workout this morning. All I can say is....OUCHAlso not a huge fan of the little bit of Yoga I did this morning, but I guess it is all part of the program so I will stick to it. I do the full Yoga X on Wednesday, so I will have a better idea then. I don't want to be negative, but I am pretty sure I am going to hate it.[Edited on March 5, 2012 at 4:53 PM. Reason : a]

Personally, I wouldn't bother with the yoga/kenpo. Yes, it's hard, but you're better served by using that as a rest day and watching your calorie intake. Take what you can get from the pull ups/push ups/core workouts/plyo and try to improve weights/reps in those areas. If you complete the 90 days you'll be in a good position to move onto some better programs.
3/5/2012 6:17:01 PM
Never done the p90x workout. I have done crossfit, but right now on a 3 day split workout
3/5/2012 6:20:28 PM
^^ I like the Kenpo, but I don't think I am going to be into the Yoga much. What about doing the Cardio X or Stretch X instead?
3/5/2012 6:22:51 PM
X Stretch is just an abbreviated stretch section of the yoga workout, so you can always do that. I have done X Stretch as a substitute for Yoga when I haven't had 1 hour or wanted more of the neck/shoulder/forearm stretches. Obviously you miss some of the hard work/vinyasas/balance part of yoga but it is something, especially if what you really need is stretching.
3/5/2012 6:49:53 PM
Cardio X is one of the more enjoyable P90X work outs. I always liked doing it.
