^^I think there should just be one console, and PC and that's it. Al of these companies should just gather and make the beast gaming machine and stuff like this would be avoided, and some console owners will not feel shafted by their purchase.
11/25/2008 2:36:42 PM
Then there would be no competition, or any reason to improve. What motivation is there to build a better console if nobody is competing with you?
11/25/2008 3:05:28 PM
i mean i'm glad i get to play it even though its riddled with issuesbut i think if a company has decided to release a game for a platform they shouldn't half ass it
11/25/2008 3:12:18 PM
^^ Thats the point. Just make one good that can last a long time.
11/25/2008 3:13:27 PM
and charge out the ass for it.
11/25/2008 3:53:50 PM
Yep, I'd go for it. Tired of all this exclusivity, and BS that comes along with all of this crap. For example its only one OS for a PC ( I know this is not true, but Windows is this shit).[Edited on November 25, 2008 at 3:57 PM. Reason : .]

I really liked Oblivion, the gameplay style, the control you had in the way you levelled up your character, interactions with other people and the "cities", but mostly the medieval setting. how closely does Fallout resemble these, if at all? I don't know if the whole "american wasteland" setting appeals to me, but i'm a huge fan of shooters and rpg's. Please tell me, this game is $40 right now on amazon and I want to pick it up today.
11/28/2008 6:28:38 AM
^^ Too late! I am completely immersed, this game is awesome

I think it's been said before, but over the course of the game, it hits me oddly (or even sadly) sometimes how people's skeletons are laid out that died during or just after the war. You can tell by whats around them or where they're at how or why they died. Like one had a gun still in his hand and bloodspray still on the wall behind his head, another had a toaster in his tub in a house out in the middle of nowhere, one was close to the abandoned car fort where one skeleton was holding another in the back of the Chinese immigrant transport/jailwagon. There was one in particular in the drainage tunnels broadcasting the random radio signals, was a guy that had a loop on the HAM signal talking about how his family needed help and his son was hurt. Went down there and i believe his son had medical supplies strewn around his child skeleton while the father was hugging the mother's body./wordsIt's some of the little shit in this game that make it so damn good.

*****MAJOR SPOILER******what the hell, the ending was anti-climatic. i chose to put the code in, but i figured some one would tell me the code before i had to go in there. instead, i just stood there randomly entering numbers until it blew up. i must have not done something correctly, i going to load an earlier game and try that again. a slide show is all all i get for running people's errands and wandering around for 60+ hours? that can't be right.
11/29/2008 11:05:15 AM
Someone told you the code a hundred times during the course of the game... they just didn't come out and say "Hey, the code for the water purifier is <blah>". They might as well have though.
11/29/2008 12:02:46 PM
^ Hahaha, yeah it's pretty freaking obvious what the code is.
11/30/2008 10:54:56 AM
Awesome game so far, about 10 hours in, haven't even done anything with the bomb yet. I love games like this.
11/30/2008 10:56:43 AM
I'm sure this has been addressed before, but I am oblivious to this game to be honest and I'm too lazy to search... but.Would it be preferable to have played or known about any of the previous Fallout games? I honestly have never heard much about it but the comments here seem pretty badass. I played the shit out of Oblivion without playing any other of the elder scrolls games, would it be anything like that or what?
12/1/2008 2:07:02 PM
I never played any Fallout game before this and I found thins one to be very fun. I'll probably never get around to playing the others either, as the gameplay videos I've watched make them look like something neigh impossible to get into after having played this one.\/ Yeah, for the most part you have to play them in order. It'd be hard to start up a game of Diablo after having played Diablo 2: LOD for example.[Edited on December 1, 2008 at 2:55 PM. Reason : -]

Its always tough to enjoy an older version of a game, the missing features just make it seem boring even if there would have been plenty if seen on its own. I can still go back and play FF3 & 7 though.
12/1/2008 2:50:31 PM
I've never played any of the other fallout games, and after playing this one, it makes me wish I hadbut no, (so far) I haven't needed any info from the previous games
12/1/2008 3:28:07 PM
Fallout 1 & 2 aren't really the same kind of game as fallout 3 though, so it's not like you'll be thrown off by the missing features. If you can get past the dated graphics, I highly recommend Fallout 1. Fallout 2 is my favorite, but it starts much slower (and harder) so the first one is best for new players.
12/1/2008 3:28:10 PM
Where can I download this from, I'd love to try out the previous Fallouts.
12/1/2008 4:01:03 PM
Just whatever you do, do NOT get Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel.
12/1/2008 4:48:26 PM
You can get by perfectly in Fallout 3 without having played the first two. However, if you have played Fallout 1 and Fallout 2, a lot of the background will make a lot more sense (Brotherhood of Steel, Enclave, FEV, Vaults, etc.).
12/1/2008 5:09:27 PM
yea they throw a lot of stuff in from the first two games.. big example is harold in oasis. i've come across random references in terminals and notes lying around the place also.if you can handle the different gameplay and older graphics, i'd HIGHLY recommend playing through the first two. (can you tell its my favorite series ever?)

Everyone find the wrecked alien spaceship? That's probably the coolest thing I've found so far, that and the alien blaster. Evidentally it's the most powerful weapon in the game. I beat the game a while ago but still love discovering new areas. I got the explorer perk when I hit level 20 to uncover all areas on the map. I was surprised to find I hadn't even visted half of them yet!!! Best game I've played in a loooooooong time!!!!!

Never played the elder scrolls or fallout, but I just got this and am on like level three and this shit takes a while to get used to, do you get the hang of it eventually?
12/2/2008 2:33:53 PM
^ What part are you having trouble getting used to? The VATS? Moving around? Using the map?
12/2/2008 2:35:55 PM
^^^ Preesh.

the sad fact is that I've already bought fallout 2 twice and will probably buy it again for $5.99

I installed Fallout last night, and to my surprise I was immediately sucked into it. I have to get use to the controls but I really like the RPG setup (skills, perks, S.P.E.C.I.A.L) which is what really drew me in to Fallout 3. I can't wait to get to going in this game. Does any Fallout OGs have any recommendations as to how to set up a character, or anything else? Also, this game (from Gog.com) runs really smoothly, which it should, but I thought it was way better than I had expected.
12/3/2008 8:30:46 AM
don't make strength over 8. power armor increases your strength by 1 and I think you can get an implant for +1. and of course, buffout
12/3/2008 8:35:19 AM
Intelligence and Agility are key stats for your first character.
12/3/2008 8:37:32 AM
^^ Yeah I got STR at 7. I kind learned from Fallout 3 to not go above 80% (relatively) in any skills, or trait because they are either supplemented with other items, or you can grab bonuses through the game for said items. I have my LK at 7 though, I just like being lucky!^ I have AG at like 7 or 8 I think, and IN I think is at 6.[Edited on December 3, 2008 at 8:52 AM. Reason : /]

I recently started over keeping in mind that stats can be boosted via bobbleheads and perks from a few quest rewards.Strength: I think I left this at a 3. A bobblehead and a quest reward will boost this high enough to take the strong back perk. By mid-way through I found that I didn't really need to carry all that much as I was only carrying to sell items for money. Money became obsolete early on. Power armor weighs a lot, but I ended up using some ranger armor I found.Perception: 6. Just to get the better criticals perk.Endurance: 5 or 6Charisma: 1. This leaves you with a low, low starting value for speech, but you can boost that.Intelligence: 9. I'll let the bobblehead take that up to 10 if I find it early enough to matter. If not I'll raise it via a perk.Agility: 7Luck: 7This left me with one extra. I don't remember where I put it. Maybe strength or luck. The only perks that really, really matter are taking educated at level 4 and comprehension at level 5. This way you are maximizing the benefit of having 3 extra skill points per level up. Also, save all your skill boosting books in your inventory for when you get the comprehension perk.
