^It would be really awesome if they could build a versioning system into Office ... It works for programming, it works for wikis, and it even works for Google Docs and it actually auto-saves it as changes are being made.

Someone did the old ctrl+alt+(arrowkey) to all the computers in our conference rooms and no one in IT knew how to fix it. They were replacing monitors and trying to sit them upside down until I got to work and told them how to fix it. I was half tempted to let them just hold the monitor upside through their entire meeting....
11/17/2009 10:46:12 AM
lol

I will have to plead ignorant at that little trick. Never knew that. However - I have been going around and doing it to people that are out of their office since i read this.

11/17/2009 1:56:59 PM
have an odd problem...I had my laptop connected to a monitor to use dual monitors and had a program open on the monitor. I then disconnected my laptop, packed it up, and drove to see my family. Hours later, turned on laptop and now when I load that program it is "on" the monitor... it shows up as being open, and when I hover over it on the taskbar is shows the preview and everything but there is no way to move it to my laptop screen. I refreshed the desktop, I made sure it wasnt set to dual monitors still... any suggestions?

i think there's a way to make windows automatically re-cascade/tile the open windows across your desktop. try that
11/22/2009 3:49:48 PM
how do you do that?
11/22/2009 3:53:10 PM
no idea - i am on a mac so i can't explore
11/22/2009 3:53:44 PM
got it to do that but its not coming up...oddgot it, was doing some weird shit, had to hit show desktop 3-4 times and it randomly came up[Edited on November 22, 2009 at 4:04 PM. Reason : d]

Alt-tab to bring the correct window into the foreground. Alt-space to open the upper left window menu. "m" to select move. Use arrow keys to move window where you want it.I have this problem alot with open source software like gimp or gramps. They'll open windows in the darnedest places for some reason on Windows boxes

^^or just hold down shift when you right click on the program on the taskbar. click move, then hit an arrow key and your mouse will then drag the mouse around
11/22/2009 6:47:17 PM
JayBee, I do the same thing w/ win7.Right-click on the desktop and go to "Screen Resolution"Go to the "Multiple displays" dropbox and change it to say: "Show desktop only on 1"Hit Apply and OK again when it asks for confirmation. This is how I extend mine and retract when I'm leaving the house or w/e-Doing that should keep stuff from going to the extended screen after you've disconnected.[Edited on November 22, 2009 at 7:29 PM. but if you're sure the window is in focus and it's win7 you can do shift + window key + left or right arrow to throw it on whichever display you want.
11/22/2009 7:33:51 PM
^^ tried that too

Lady that I like but she's kind of slow - Did y'all change something over the holiday? My screen looks different today, but I could be hallucinating. (Turkey hangover!)Same lady 2 minutes later - I forgot that I was using the computer in my office and not my home computer. Marry Christmas!haha

Since it very well may end up here anyways I figure this is the apt place to prompt the question. I am on the precipice of finally purchasing a PS3. I got a great deal on a 24" HMDI monitor that will eventually go towards my new computer build but in the interim is it feasible to hook up my PS3 to this monitor?

i can't even imagine trying to play mw2 on a 24" screen
12/3/2009 9:28:25 AM
I would assume even mw2 @ 1920 on 24" isn't that horrible.
12/3/2009 10:14:29 AM
depends on how close you are to the screen
12/3/2009 12:43:24 PM
i had my ps3 hooked up to my 24" monitor for a while via hdmi and it really wasnt that bad.
12/3/2009 4:58:34 PM
its not bad till you get shot in the face by some tiny dot you couldn't see hiding in some tall grass
12/3/2009 5:15:18 PM
At least it's not a 24" CRT

"Yeah yeah I need me some o dat, too that computer class with the web browser. I need to learn me some of everythang you jes' said and the web browser too because I need to learn me that too, and the words you mean by web browser. And the office stuff too - all of it. Which one did I need? Because I gots this certificate and the other too but I cain't get a job with that and that's why I need moar so which one did I need? It was the one that teachers you to do stuff with the office and how to run the office"I can't even really do justice to this lady that just called. Just trying to type out her part of the conversation makes her look 3x smarter. I feel like I just got prank called by a nursing home resident.

haha what dead end job are you working to get a call like that?

I was reading a review for the Spyder monitor calibration system on Ken Rockwell's (digital photography guy) website and it had a link to "Why Pros use Mac". I wanted to punch this guy after the second and third paragraph:
1/11/2010 9:56:18 PM
That is ridiculous. Everyone knows real men use Linux.

So I got my grandmother a track ball for Christmas. She has the shakes, and I thought it might be easier for her to use than a mouse. She knows nothing about computers except how to turn it on and use it. She is 87 so I asked my uncle to hook it up for her.By hookup, I basically meant for him to just plug it in.Well I was talking to my uncle today and he said he wasn't able to hook it up because when he put in the CD to install the drivers, which is basically unnecessary, her virus protection gave him the .exe warning saying that it could be harmful to the computer so he didn't do it.I told him that was just a basic precaution and it would be fine to just plug it in and it would work without all that and he said he didn't want to "risk it"This man is a Dr and doesn't even know how to install a fucking trackball or understand that its not going to harm the computer in doing so just because the virus protection gave him a standard warning.
1/12/2010 12:21:41 AM
You were reading Ken Rockwell. He spouts shit just to hear his words and drive people to his site for adviews. He doesn't know jack about photography and has for years insisted on only shooting in jpg mode and using auto/program modes. He "reviews" shit without touching it. Pros laugh at him, idiots worship him.

he knows how you facebooking young kids are always giving each other computer viruses.... he's gonna protect his momma from your dirty nasty hardwaredon't try to deny it - he saw the virus warning and knows you're up to no good at all. you should be ashamed of yourself and she should be grateful that at least she has a son that is looking out for her
1/12/2010 4:38:28 PM
I never thought I would see the day that I came across someone who didn't know how to install a trackball/mouse, let alone a Dr.
1/12/2010 4:55:42 PM
^ what does him being a Dr. have to do with anything? I wasn't aware they taught "Trackball Installation" in med school

logic, reasoning, ability to learn new advances in medicine & technology on the other hand...
