anyone else's play store get constipated and require a flushing to get things moving again? had to clear data to get apps to update/download. Probably the second or third time in the last year.

In a few months my contract runs up with my iPhone and I have contemplated checking out the Nexus phone. Is a new one supposed to come out relatively soon that I should wait on? I would hate to get one and then a better one come out the next month and I don't really keep up with this kind of thing so I'm kind of ignorant to the Nexus lifecycle.

Nexus 6p is the one to get, as long as you can handle a phone that big. Nexus 5x if not.

New phone probably won't be out until the end of this year...no news of anything for now.

Cool, thanks. I have an iphone 6+ right now so size isn't an issue, I couldn't go back to a smaller phone after getting used to it.

I would love my Nexus 6p too, if I wasn't such a cheap ass.

Got a mint Moto X Pure off eBay for $270 instead. Great phone, and pretty damn close to vanilla android.

Anyone have Sprint or T-Mobile that travel between the Crystal Coast and Raleigh? I'm on US Cellular but will either need to switch to Verizon family or I'm contemplating going Google Fi. Looking at the 5x if I go Google Fi, not sure what the level below flagship phone on Verizon is. Currently I have a version one Moto X and am quite happy with it but I can't take it to either Verizon or Sprint/T-Mobile.

Is the Droid Turbo 2 worth the money? Claims to have a shatterproof screen and 48 hour battery life.

I'm sure it's a nice phone, but I'm never buying a vendor exclusive phone again. They just don't get the same level of attention for updates or 3rd party accessories.

So if these were your choices, you'd opt for the Moto X Pure since it's not carrier-specific?

http://www.motorola.com/us/compare-smartphones

I've been pretty happy with my Maxx, and the Maxx 2 also has that super battery life of the Turbo. Decisions, decisions.

I love my Pure, but I've accepted the fact that my clumsy ass needs a case, so that mitigates the shatterproof thing mostly for me, and as fast as these phones charge (just over an hour to full charge from 0%), as well as the Doze feature of 6.0, I haven't had an issue with battery life yet. Otherwise the specs/benchmarks seem mostly the same, and I'm pretty sure the Pure runs a cleaner version of Android and gets updates sooner.

I'm getting pretty pissed at AT&T for not releasing 6.0 for my Note 5. I'm almost regretting my decision not to get the 6+ instead. However Samsung Pay, Wireless charging, and the Gear VR (which is awesome) make me not regret it as much. The battery life is just horrible and because I can't root it I can't find out what's causing the drain. I'm hoping whenever 6.0 comes it will help out otherwise I may be jumping ship for a Nexus product.

--on that note 6.0 CM came out for my Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 (released January 2014) and the battery life is amazing. I still get 7-8 hours SOT with weeks of standby even with location services on (albeit no cellular chip) but still. Frustrating compared to my Note.

Yes and no. It puts band-aids on rogue processes that prevent weeks of standby. On 5.x my Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.4 on CM 11 had weeks of standby. Essentially when the screen wasn't on it would be sleeping almost 100% of the time. I've read reports of worse battery life with 6.0 on other carriers and the Note 5. I understand the initial reviews of 6.0 reported 2-3x standby time but I'm skeptical until I see it. It took me a while to get my tablet to that point.

Like I've said before, my pre-6.0 phones would burn 10-15% battery while sitting there overnight, with 6.0 its more like 1-2%, on multiple devices.

Doze works.

Yes overnight is one thing when your phone isn't moving and the screen is off but Doze only activates when your phone is still and the screen is off for 30 minutes (last time I checked). The minute you pick it up or turn on the screen it deactivates. I think there's an "aggressive mode" but it's not an official feature yet. It's still putting a band-aid on rogue processes.

Say I use my phone for 3 hours a day and I hit 10% battery life at EOD. Because of said rogue processes even if I use my phone for 10 minutes I may still be at 10% battery life by EOD due to physically moving or turning on my screen twice an hour. That's the problem that Doze has reportedly not fixed. All I'm saying is many people are reporting worse battery life with 6.0 unrelated to Doze. I won't comment on that because I haven't gotten 6.0 yet but what I will comment on is Doze only works with very certain criteria are met. If you're using your phone but still only have 30 minutes of screen on time during a day it may not save you any battery life at all. I want the phone to sleep when the screen is off and this is only accomplished by an "aggressive Doze" mode.

I guess my point is there's so many variables and many people say Doze is just a gimmick in the first place and really doesn't work in theory especially as applications update themselves to bypass Doze (like using a push notification service instead of a simple call to Google Location Services).

Yeah I'm hoping I see that too on 6.0 otherwise I'm considering a phone I can root and force shit to sleep. Right now if I look at battery stats I see "Android System" with "8h 27m" of "Stay awake". This is with location turned off. I know it's because some app is leveraging an Android service but I have ZERO insight into which app that is without root and Samsung said no no to that so I'm pretty much stuck factory resetting my phone and using trial and error to narrow it down. It's ridiculous.

--Like right now. 59% for the day (4:30pm). I only have 36 minutes of screen on time and yet "Android System" has kept it awake for 8.5 hours. Literally no way to troubleshoot that without rooting.

Motorolas have been a pain in the ass to root, generally speaking, for at least 3 years. I mean you can do a factory reset and a bunch of command line stuff with your phone plugged into your computer. But no 1 touch root apps anymore.

So I'm on a Galaxy S5 (I know; it's old), and I just received the Marshmallow update through Verizon, Now my phone won't charge.

Basically, of the USB chargers I've tried, it says something to the effect of "Charging has been stopped to prevent damage to your phone. Please use the charger that came with your device."

A quick Google says that others are having the same (and other) problems. Other than factory reset, is there a workaround/solution?

^At first, no.

Update: I think I got it working? My wife still had the old micro usb 3.0 that came with the phone and that got it charged up to 70% or so with it off. One of the suggestions online was to take the battery out, hold down the power button for 30 seconds or so, and then put it back in. I cycled it once more after that and things seemed to be working fine. It started installing the new Samsung apps and charged up to 100% overnight on my regular old micro usb.

OnePlus 3 released today. $399. Phone looks beautiful, as do the specs.

http://bgr.com/2016/06/14/oneplus-3-review-release-date-specs/

Quote :
"The launch of the OnePlus One was pretty much the worst thing ever (thanks to the company’s loathed invite system), and the OnePlus Two launch was not much better. Now, after many leaks over the last several months, OnePlus has made its next flagship official in its The Loop VR app. The best part? You don’t need an invitation to purchase one.

The phone sports a Snapdragon 820 (with an Adreno 530 GPU), a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass 4, 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage (sans a MicroSD slot, unfortunately), and it’s powered by a 3,000 mAh non-removable battery. To charge this battery you’ll go through a USB Type-C port on the bottom, which also supports OnePlus’ “Dash Charge”. As for cameras, the OnePlus 3 has a 16MP main camera with optical image stabilization, and a 8MP camera is on the front.

Of course the phone also has many of the features you’ve come to expect from a flagship in 2016. The OnePlus 3 has a fingerprint sensor, sports a sleek design made of anodized aluminum (may I say it looks a lot like the HTC One M8?), comes in two colors, has a 3.5 mm audio jack (which is apparently a rarity as of late), and sports 4G LTE connectivity (Cat. 6), WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC (which the OnePlus 2 notably went without), and more.

The OnePlus 3 is $399 and — thank goodness — you don’t need to wait on an invite to purchase the device. It will be available later today on OnePlus.net, but you can purchase one right now through The Loop VR app. We’ll update this article when you can actually buy the phone on the company’s website."
