Life in the fast lane

Looks like it's not going to work? He shut that shit down on twitter pretty quick and said he doesn't even plan on visiting. He's all NC State and his top 2 recruiters(Ledford and Faulkner) are gone. Stop freaking out. Just tells you what type of player we're getting and how much Ledford thinks of him. Blueshirt isn't even that big of a deal, just means he can't OV here and he can't sign a traditional LOI but will still be on scholarship for the Fall.
1/18/2019 1:01:31 PM
It also means he isn't eligible to play next year. And while ledford probably had some hand in this, I'm sure Satterfield also already was aware of him. Louisville has open scholarships and they're going to be going after anyone who fits their system that isn't already signed.]
1/18/2019 1:08:45 PM
He is eligible to play this year. He just isn't technically on scholarship until he gets to campus.
1/18/2019 1:33:36 PM
I look at a Blueshirt as a guaranteed redshirt. Kam is a tremendous athlete that knows he needs to redshirt wherever he goes. UL needs bodies and has scholarships to burn, they're doing what UNC is doing and just offering any warm body they think might be able to contribute in a year or two.

Griffin visited GT this weekend. Our coaches still assuming he will sign here
1/21/2019 6:07:01 PM
He just decommitted from us on twitterhttps://twitter.com/jamiousgriffin/status/1087490992498987008?s=21[Edited on January 21, 2019 at 6:30 PM. Reason : Link]

Fuuuu
1/21/2019 6:32:55 PM
Welp byeI 100% expected this when he didn't sign early though
1/21/2019 7:15:12 PM
Guess we aren’t gonna win the Natty next year.
1/21/2019 7:20:19 PM
Well shit
1/21/2019 7:20:50 PM
Still waiting for that VT visitFor real though, huge loss especially if we can't fill his spot this late in the game. Paper thin at rb
1/21/2019 7:21:22 PM
Wolf Pack
1/21/2019 9:17:20 PM
sounds like GT may be the team to beat. we are still pursuing him but seems like a long shot imo
1/22/2019 6:17:50 AM
Yea GT has been the worry since PJ left, and he just visited there this weekend.
1/22/2019 7:12:32 AM
Its GT and thats where he will end up. Local school, brothers(VT brother is trying to transfer to GT last i heard) play there, dont run the triple option anymore, new staff selling excitement, major PT and him being the focal point of their offense. Sucks, but oh well...we will be fine. Person, knight, pennix, rhem and whatever running back we find between now and signing day will, hopefully, be good enough next season. Just gotta hope person doesny fight injuries all season again
1/22/2019 7:59:03 AM
Pennix and Rhem haven't shown anything yet, so either one of those needs to have a huge leap or Knight better be ready day 1. I can pretty much guarantee Person wont make it as an every down/every series back, not many do.
1/22/2019 9:05:37 AM
I'd expect us to bring in a post-grad RB to share load with Person. GT is the landing spot. They're trying to pitch the VT brother joining the party but that isn't happening until he graduates from VT, and the kid hasn't been able to see the field yet after 2 years so it definitely feels like some BS they're selling the family to land Jamious. I get GT isn't running the triple-option going forward, but they still have 10+ RBs on roster eligible next year. It's not like those guys won't be capable of playing RB in a non triple-option scheme. This almost feels like optics of landing a highly ranked local kid in their first class than filling an actual need. Wonder how things would have played out if Griffin was a 4* from the start or if he never picked up a 4th star, would we ever have landed him and would GT even have recruited him that hard?
1/22/2019 10:05:05 AM
My guess is a bunch of those RBs end up at different positions.
1/22/2019 10:24:24 AM
^^apparently without Paul Johnson, GT would have always been the favorite.
1/22/2019 11:47:09 AM
^^I think a couple of them could slide to WR but you still have some prototypical RB sized guys on their roster that are going to have a really hard time transitioning to WR, TE, or D. They're going to need kids to transfer out because they've already signed 2 RBs in the 2019 class(that don't appear to be good fits at another position) and 3 WRs in the 2019 class, so they either have 15 RBs or like 20 WRs. If they land Griffin and all the RBs/WRs on roster end up at RB/WR, they're going to have 1/3 of their 85 scholarships committed to those 2 positions. I'm sure Griffin can compete for starting time, but that roster and depth chart have to be somewhat concerning(regardless of the state of that OL). Feels like landing Griffin is just about optics of flipping a 4* in-state kid and not nearly about the need of him on the roster. That team is going to struggle the next 2 years on offense as they re-tool everything, but moving from the triple-option is built-in time for the staff to revamp things. This feels like a "help create recruiting buzz" to start getting some forward momentum for the team. Kind of like what UNC did with Sam Howell(who was reportedly a silent commit to Fedora and was always going to UNC after Mack went there) and they did the whole "flip" on NSD just to create the buzz and get people talking about the program in a positive way.
1/22/2019 3:46:54 PM
I'm not sure what difference it makes why GT wants Griffin, but, per rivals, he would be their highest rated RB recruit in a long time. Its weird to think a team wants a highly regarded prospect just to make a splash in recruiting. Im sure some of the people there are already looking around for transfer locations and/or about to be pushed out.
1/22/2019 3:54:07 PM
1/22/2019 5:07:06 PM
^^I think because you can look at their roster and say "they don't need to offer a RB, they already have too many". If Griffin wasn't from GA, fairly certain GT wouldn't have even tried to land him, even with his brother involved. This is a local 4* kid they actually have a chance with and they're willing to ignore the issues it's likely to cause with their scholarship spacing just to land him. ^I get some of the A-Backs sliding to slot WRs, but they already have 10 WRs returning and have signed 3 WRs in the 2019 class, so you're looking at 13 WRs to go along with their 13 RBs on roster and 2 signed RBs(not even including Griffin). So even if 5 of them become slot WRs, you're just shifting the problem from RB to WR, because you're still looking at potentially 29 RBs/WRs on roster. The funny thing is, a lot of their RBs on roster were either QBs or RBs in HS, so now they're talking about trying to flip these dudes to playing D. I don't blame them at all for going after Griffin, it's a no brainer, he's talented and it creates a huge recruiting buzz in their first class, which is a great move. I do find it a little sleezy that they're pitching the idea of all 3 brothers playing together when in reality it's going to take the VT brother graduating early to even have a shot at that. I just don't understand the resource allocation when you only have 85 scholarships, but I'm guessing you'll see some kids weeded out with more of a focus on the new talent since they're trying to take a bunch of square pegs and stick them in a round hole flipping from the triple-option.
1/23/2019 8:28:54 AM
I don't understand why you're expanding so much energy to figure out why GT is recruiting him, who cares? This isn't GT football recruiting thread. Griffins reasons for (most likely) picking GT kinda matter for our recruiters, but GTs reasons for picking Griffin are really irrelevant.
1/23/2019 8:48:00 AM
Why are you trying to gatekeep this thread tho.
1/23/2019 10:51:46 AM
Touche, I guess
1/23/2019 11:00:00 AM
Tabari Hines taking an OV. Maybe he can unlock the secret to beating WF.
1/24/2019 11:36:22 AM
Looks like the replacement for griffin will be 3* all purpose back jordan houston. Currently committed to maryland. He was supposed to visit maryland this weekend but after having in home visits with nc state and maryland this week, he will instead visit nc state. #6 APB per 247 and #8 APB per rivals. Solid replacement
1/25/2019 9:05:33 AM
in addition to Hines and Houston...looks like we're targeting Baylor DB commit Cecil Powell. 3* from Florida.
1/25/2019 12:19:50 PM
Hines committed
1/27/2019 1:17:47 PM
Awesome
1/27/2019 4:11:27 PM
Awesome, or a plot for Wake to get inside information to use against us???
1/27/2019 5:12:11 PM
Lol, not like they need it
1/27/2019 9:22:40 PM
Houston flipped, #6 All-Purpose Back
1/28/2019 3:44:36 PM
Awesome!
1/28/2019 4:41:25 PM
sounds like we are going to sign another running back -- https://247sports.com/Player/Delbert-Mimms-46051420/
2/5/2019 5:36:10 PM
^i think i read where the plan may be for him to blueshirt (assuming he does indeed sign)also sounds like we're in good shape with DB Cecil Powell, he's a 2* on Rivals and a 3* in 247. down to us and Baylor (and maybe Indiana has a shot as well). he was originally committed to Baylor.
2/6/2019 6:47:37 AM
You can't blueshirt if you "sign".
2/6/2019 7:20:25 AM
correct. i worded that wrong. Mimms is a candidate to blueshirt if he comes to State. also sounds like we're involved in a coastal carolina transfer jeffrey gunter. he was a DE at coastal.[Edited on February 6, 2019 at 8:24 AM. Reason : no surprise, but hines and houston have officially signed]
2/6/2019 8:22:30 AM
Griffin officially signed with GT. Really bad week or so for NC State sports.
2/6/2019 9:28:55 AM
Meanwhile some on here still waiting for his elusive VT visit
2/6/2019 10:34:42 AM
who cares. we dont need him. eye emoji.
2/6/2019 11:07:29 AM
Cecil Powell commits.
2/6/2019 11:29:27 AM
2/6/2019 1:11:52 PM
Delbert Mimms did commit as a blue shirt. Had offers from Vanderbilt, Washington State, Louisville and Kentucky. We needed him as he seems in the mold of Gallaspy body wise. He’s 5’11 200 lbs.https://247sports.com/Article/Indianapolis-Ben-Davis-running-back-Delbert-Mimms-commits-to-NC-State-128804394/OffersNC StateVanderbiltKentuckyLouisvilleWashington StateCincinnatiOhioMiami (OH)Bowling GreenBall StateToledoWestern MichiganIllinois StateIndiana State

Meh, we lost Griffin but added 3* Houston and 3* Mimms. Given our depth, I'm fine with it. Knight is more of a 3-down back. Houston is a 3rd down back/scat back. Mimms is a short-yardage line. Hoping we can land a post-grad OL option because the only real loss we had from this class was Miller as we weren't able to replace him.
2/7/2019 11:08:27 AM
So this year our RB depth chart has Person, Pennix, Knight, Rhem and Houston(plus a bunch of walk-ons.) Yeah, totally not gonna miss Griffin at all. We really need Person to work hard at conditioning because we really need him to step up and take on a big load.
2/7/2019 11:57:59 AM
Mimms is a like for like replacement of Griffin, just much lower rated. We have "depth" at RB, but it is 100% unproven. Anyone of those rb's could be a star or a total bust, we desperately need at least one of them to be ready to take backup level snaps in acc play. We'll see^isnt person is sitting out the spring with a hamstring injury?
2/7/2019 12:47:43 PM
Mimms isn't a replacement for anybody because he isn't allowed to play this year.
