TO PROVIDE THAT A PERSON WHO HAS A VALID CONCEALED HANDGUN PERMIT MAY DO ALL OF THE FOLLOWING:

HAVE A CONCEALED HANDGUN IN A LOCKED VEHICLE IN A STATE GOVERNMENT PARKING LOT,

HAVE A CONCEALED HANDGUN IN A LOCKED COMPARTMENT IN A VEHICLE ON EDUCATIONAL PROPERTY,

AND CARRY A HANDGUN INTO AN ASSEMBLY WHERE AN ADMISSION FEE IS CHARGED OR AN ESTABLISHMENT WHERE ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ARE SOLD AND CONSUMED,

OR AT A PARADE OR FUNERAL PROCESSION, UNLESS THE PERSON IN LEGAL POSSESSION OR CONTROL OF THE PREMISES HAS POSTED A NOTICE PROHIBITING THE CARRYING OF HANDGUNS ON THE PREMISES

The book I got when I took my CC class that outlines all the applicable laws. handgunlaw.us does an excellent job, but you have to check the links to a lot of statutes to get the whole picture. I like the one stop reading better.

I love this about Texas. You have to have one of two very specific signs, a simple no guns allowed sign doesn't mean jack.

I wonder if a compartment would be considered locked if the vehicle it is in is locked.

the actual text of the law, not the summary at the beginning of the bill:

Quote :
"G.S. 14-269.2 is amended by adding the following new subsections to read:

...

(k) The provisions of this section shall not apply to a person who has a concealed handgun permit that is valid under Article 54B of this Chapter, or who is exempt from obtaining a permit pursuant to that Article, who has a handgun in a closed compartment or container within the person's locked vehicle or in a locked container securely affixed to the person's vehicle. A person may unlock the vehicle to enter or exit the vehicle provided the firearm remains in the closed compartment at all times and the vehicle is locked immediately following the entrance or exit."

14-269.2 is the section that addresses firearms on educational property. i read this to mean that any closed compartment is ok as long as the vehicle is locked and you're allowed to enter and exit. this is good because a lot of new vehicles do not have lockable center consoles or glove compartments.

If anyone really wants a new red book, I'll get you one at cost once the new revision is out. As long as you read up on 937, you'll be up to date on the changes.

I haven't read the final revision to the bill, did the conference committee strip out the part clarifying that greenways are not considered athletic facilities?

Half of the appeal of the Creedmoor is that it kicks ass even on factory loads.

...and a friend who lives 5 minutes away (and just retired from the Navy, so he has some extra time on his hands) just got a press and is starting to reload. Once he gets a little more experience at it, I'll probably get him to load some for me.

I frankly have way too many other hobbies to want to screw with reloading at the moment. I don't feel like making space for the equipment or especially teaching myself how to do it. If I learn hands-on from my friend, maybe I'll reconsider.

...but seriously, besides shooting, I'm into playing guitar/sax and recording, lots of lifting weights (and a decent bit of swimming), SCUBA, flying, roadracing and autocross, riding motorcycles, and in the winter, I try to ski some...on top of having a 6-year old and having to maintain a house and yard by myself.

everything you need to reload for that rifle will fit in an average plastic tote with room to spare. all you need is a kitchen table.

but i can't argue with the time issue. it's up to each shooter to decide if it's worth it to devote some of his spare time to reloading. casual shooters don't get all excited about spending a couple hours at the reloading bench as they do over a couple hours at the range. they don't rush home with a new press or set of dies and start posting about their new toy. it's not for the faint of heart.

It was a reserve auction so I just emailed the guy and asked what his reserve was...he wavered for a bit and then gave up his number. Told him it was too high for my budget and that I will wait for Sig LE to send me one. He got back to me for a few buck more then the Sig LE price and took down the auction.

I put a lot of things on gunbroker for way more than theyre worth, usually because I have some sentimental attachment to them, and they usually never sell.

But when they do, oh boy am I excited. Just goes to fund more potential investments

Fun hobby. Most of them I never even shoot. One of my local shops has a real nice flat rate where they wrap/protect/ship/insure things for me. Less than 50 bucks anywhere.

My father-in law works for U.S. Case in Raleigh. They sell Pelican and SKB cases of all types (gun, laptop, bags, coolers, misc), as well as their custom U.S. Case cases for sound equipment and other things. They sell lights of all types (tactical Pelican lights, commercial lights and safety lights). Finally they do custom CNC cutouts for guns and equipment out of various types of foam inside whatever case you'd like.

Long story short, they are going to have 4 tables at the upcoming Dixie show this weekend and I'm going to be working the show with them. They will be selling all types of Pelican and SKB cases including the 1700 series for rifles and shotguns, smaller cases such as the 1400 for handguns, small cases such as the 1000 series for ammo and smalls. They will also have iPad cases, iPhone cases, and Pelican backpacks. Also there will be 35 and 45qt Pelican Coolers as well as Pelican flashlights and area lights.

They will have all kinds of stuff for sale and will be showing off some custom inserts you can have made. If you are at the show, please stop by and check out our cases and other stuff. The Pelican flashlights are amazing!

Look for the HUGE Pelican case and coolers banner at the show. I'll be there probably Saturday most of the day and then some of Sunday.

how do the pelican coolers compare to yetis? mainly concerned with ice life.

we've used those intrinsically safe pelican flashlights at work and they're pretty damn impressive.

I love 1911s, but I wouldn't want anything but a full-size.

First of all, my one experience with firing a small 1911 (Para Ordnance) is that I couldn't hit shit with it, while I can just drill targets like you read about with my full-sized Springfield.

Second, the only use for a little pistol is concealed carry, and for self-defense, I'd rather have something else than a 1911, personally. I like my 1911 as a range toy, but I like my compact Xdm much more for a defensive weapon (or a TCP/LCP/P3AT if you need something really small).

^^Honestly, the Pelicans are designed the same as the Yeti. 2" thick insulation, commercial grade gasket, etc etc. So its performance is the same as a Yeti. I have a Yeti and it is simply amazing how long that thing can hold ice. I've had it close to a week with ice (more water than ice, but it was cold water).

That being said, the Pelicans I think are built heavier and better. The latches are better, the handles are better, there are fish measure strips on the top, it just seems to be built heavier.

Plus, they are a hair cheaper than the Yeti's.
