^Exactly. For me I can narrow it down to specific location wake locks most of the time. It's either qcom_rx_wakelock or bam_dmux_wakelock depending if I'm on wifi or the cellular network. From what I understand these are the processes that Google Play Services calls and Google Play Services is called by various apps for location updates. The majority of these updates are not GCM notifications (like text, email, or facebook) but simply the app asking for a location update. This is what kills your battery. The doze mode should completely freeze these updates when your phone is sitting still. The worry though is developers will abuse this and just start telling Android all it's requests are high priority. I guess we'll see.[Edited on October 6, 2015 at 10:30 AM. Reason : s]

^ are you not using a ROM on your G3? granted, the battery life on my AT&T (D850) isn't great, but the battery life was much improved running cloudy...i get 24 hours of real world use (not sure about my SOT, but i'd consider it average), so even if i forget to charge it one day, i can make it until the next to plug it in
10/14/2015 9:28:58 AM
I'd really like to but the LG specific camera features (laser focusing mainly) do not work in roms. I've read how much worse the camera is if you don't use the stock LG rom. This alone caused me to stick with stock.
10/14/2015 9:55:00 AM
i jest got a sw update
10/14/2015 10:19:35 AM
On the G3? Verizon G3's are getting 5.1.1 I believe.
10/14/2015 10:38:05 AM
10/15/2015 9:03:43 AM
I'm tempted to give it a try.
10/15/2015 9:28:27 AM
i assume you're rooted? installed TWRP? if yes to both, you really should...make a backup of stock and give cloudy a try...i think you'll be happy with itcloudyfa is no longer developing cloudy ROMs AFAIK (last update was in june or july), but it's as up-to-date as stock is ever going to be, anyway, until LG rolls out marshmallow for the G3...and it's been rock solid stable for me so far
10/15/2015 10:02:11 AM
Great yes I have both and it can't hurt to make a backup and try it out.
10/15/2015 10:11:01 AM
Anybody got any new phones lately?Upgraded to Android 6.0? I'll probably be doing this today on my N5.
10/16/2015 9:24:56 AM
That Doze feature on 6.0 works well. Went to sleep with my phone < 10% and work up with it > 5%...so it didn't really lose much overnight, while before I would have definitely woke up to a dead phone.
10/20/2015 8:16:30 PM
^I assume it wasn't on airplane mode? That's impressive. The G4 is the first non-Nexus phone to get 6.0 so I'm hoping they follow with the G3 soon. Although it's obviously up to the carriers.[Edited on October 20, 2015 at 8:37 PM. Reason : s]

blackberry OS is a real time OS so it does that kind of sleep natively. I routinely get 2-3 days out of a single charge. having said that, i think i'll be getting the blackberry priv if i can manage to make it work with my corp email. hopefully it won't pass an android user agent string from the blackberry mail client.[Edited on October 20, 2015 at 9:20 PM. Reason : the priv is a blackberry hacked up version of android that's supposed to actually be secure]
10/20/2015 9:20:06 PM
when I was on Blackberry, the battery life was fucking awesome. But now everybody needs 1080p and whatnot.
10/20/2015 9:50:10 PM
my phone is 1440p
10/20/2015 11:14:46 PM
well the old Blackberry's/ies obviously weren't. But I would guess it doesn't have the multimedia capabilities of some of the modern Androids and iPhones.
10/20/2015 11:35:10 PM
blackberry runs almost any native android app and has a fair number of bb10 specific apps. it plays any media file i've tried without a codec or extra media player. it's the best mobile OS i've come across and i work in the segment. the ecosystem is what's lackluster and even with the android VM, it's just too cumbersome for most so they're trying the software route this time. i'm excited to see where it goes.
10/21/2015 12:25:30 AM
I used to be pretty BB savvy but haven't kept up over the last 5-6 years. I know they fell off of the map, then made a pretty good resurgence. Figured they were still catering the business/email market (physical keyboard which I still miss) but wasn't aware their hardware specs were up to par with some of the Droid/iOS devices.
10/21/2015 12:57:38 AM
did you guys hear about thishttps://blog.lookout.com/blog/2015/11/04/trojanized-adware/
11/5/2015 7:43:30 PM
I wish I could root my phone by simply installing an app and not having to do a bunch of command line shit
11/5/2015 8:17:55 PM
^Cyanogenmod makes root pretty easy:Settings > About Phone > Press build number 7 times > Go back > Developer options > Root access > Apps onlyAssuming you could figure out how to load a custom rom to begin with. But there's the theoretical of what Google /could/ allow.^^As far as the question:
11/6/2015 9:25:15 AM
There's no one-click root option for the Droid Maxx, everything requires a bunch of more complicated stuff.
11/6/2015 12:14:47 PM
got my droid turbo 2 todayso far its the perfect size, very zippy, got so fucking hot while downloading updates I thought it was gonna shut off but it was ok (def could not hold it comfortably for a while though)i noticed the turbo charger no longer has a removable usb cord...its affixed to the charger, apparently those cheap ebay cables were fucking shit up when paired with a turbo charger
11/18/2015 10:32:53 PM
G3 is scheduled for marshmallow middle of december
11/19/2015 11:26:50 AM
^Woohoo! Although I'll have to go through the pain of reflashing stock then upgrading. AT&T OTA updates won't let you update if you're rooted.
11/19/2015 11:51:20 AM
it obviously depends on the carrier, of course...the mid-december rollout is for the european model (D855, i think), so who knows when the US models will get iti'm hoping the dev community can do something with it to get a ROM out faster, but i don't know how much the modem will hold them backit's also possible that the G3 bootloader will unlockable in the near future: http://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?categoryTypeCode=ANRSi wouldn't be surprised if it's just the G4 and later models, though
11/22/2015 10:41:02 AM
I got a tmo LG G3 over black friday for $220 new when I saw that the blackberry priv APKs were released and working on other devices. It took a really fucking long time to get it how I liked it (the stock rom had way too much shit, ended up with bliss pop) but the blackberry apps are amazing. This is a pretty damn good device for $220 and apparently the tmo version is the only one with a factory unlocked bootloader but should get all the LTE bands you need on most US GSM providers

any suggestions on next phone? have had my nexus 5 for over 2 years, and i cracked the display recently (plus it has been getting a little sluggish lately).i buy off-contract (on Straight Talk for now) and am considering the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, and Moto X Pure mainly... i like the size of the N5, but wouldn't mind something bigger this time. trying to decide if the 6P is worth the $100 premium over Moto X, or if i should just go w/ 5X as logical upgradeany thoughts? any others i should consider in this price range $300 - $500?
12/3/2015 7:53:02 AM
what are you going to do with your Nexus?
12/3/2015 10:30:50 PM
I've really been enjoying the Moto X Pure 2015. I got the 64GB and added a fast 64GB microsd for ~$17--thanks BF deals.Previously I had the HTC One m7 ... great phone, but was time to move on.The Moto X Pure is big, but I've gotten used to it. And IMO it's more comfortable to use with two hands than smaller phones, and is just a bit unwieldy with one hand, but doable.I picked the Pure over Nexus 6P because of the extra Moto features; they are really quite nice and definitely add to android without taking away from being Vanilla. Vanilla without a few sprinkles was just too vanilla for me. [Edited on December 3, 2015 at 11:25 PM. Reason : .]
12/3/2015 11:23:03 PM
^^^ sadly i can relate. I shattered my N5 screen this morning I went ahead and ordered the 5X this morning. i had previously messed with a friend's and ive been happy with the nexus line so i didn't really hesitate to much.
12/4/2015 8:58:25 AM
^^^ not sure yet... might attempt to fix screen and use it as something else (and keep as backup)^^ good notes... i do like some of the moto features on my wife's moto x (2014) and think i would like the bigger screen this time around^ i almost bought the 5X during black friday ($80 discount), but didn't commit - i have definitely liked the nexus line and really enjoyed the 5, but something kept me from buying. i've gotten away w/ 16GB on the 5, but would prefer bigger (not expandable). with the 32GB 5X jumping to $429, the 6P is only a $70 premium
12/4/2015 9:22:03 AM
agree with that and I almost went with the 32GB 5x because internal storage is definitely my main complaint on the N5. but the 6P is just too big for me personally so I didn't really even consider that. i honestly probably should have done the 32GB version now that I think about it because an extra $50 wouldn't have been a big deal and that was my main gripe but oh well [Edited on December 4, 2015 at 9:38 AM. Reason : ]
12/4/2015 9:37:52 AM
that makes sense too... i'd like to see a 6P in person, but haven't yet - i do like my N5 a lot.
12/4/2015 10:10:42 AM
The 6P is nice, but the 5X is already pushing the limit of size I like to carry around for a phone - with a case it's actually not ideal in my pocket and was definitely an almost full time two-hand device (which is not the case with the N5 for me) based on trying my friend's phone but I think I will get used to it.
12/4/2015 10:18:29 AM
How's it feel compared to the N5. Same thing just a little bigger? Any more solid?
12/4/2015 11:20:52 AM
been playing with the zenfone 2 laser that was ~$160 a couple of weeks agoi'm not sure there's a better phone available at that price
12/4/2015 4:03:39 PM
Nexus 6 on Project fi finally got the notification for the Marshmallow OTA. Downloaded it. Clicked Restart and Install. Nothing happens. That was 3 fucking days ago.
12/5/2015 10:35:34 PM
MM source code for the G3 was released...that's pretty cool
12/15/2015 1:11:24 PM
If the G3 gets a nice solid 6.0 rom I may switch over soon. I can't wait for AT&T to release 6.0 with all their bloatware. I'm also considering ditching the G3 for the Nexus 6p after reading a bunch of positive reviews and I can't wait until September for a new phone. Has anyone picked up a 6p yet?

12/17/2015 11:45:37 AM
^if true, then I will have very little use for hangouts.
12/17/2015 2:30:48 PM
same. I use it some now, but I would probably just switch back to sms with those few people.
12/17/2015 2:54:09 PM
^
12/17/2015 3:54:40 PM
i made the mistake of paying to port my "real" number to google voice a couple of years ago...i only use hangouts because SMS/MMS via GV works like shit with most other apps
12/17/2015 5:21:47 PM
i Want a chat app that has a windows 10 client. The one thing i like about Hangouts is that I can continue chats from my phone or tablet on my PC. If Whatsapp had a PC client, i would switch asap.Is there another chat app that has this functionality?
12/17/2015 10:16:19 PM
^ that is true, i like that i can have SMS/MMS conversations via the browser, whether my phone is with me or notperhaps i'd miss that particular feature
12/18/2015 8:25:10 AM
12/18/2015 8:32:31 AM
Google voice sms you can continue in the browser
12/18/2015 9:42:00 AM
Yes, as some one who loses or breaks their phone often while sleep walking, I have often used browser to sms with people while i wait on my new phone to arrive.
