By "a little bit sharper", you mean "4 times as many pixels".
1/28/2012 9:21:58 AM
^^by "better camera", you mean "a full fledged point and shoot replacement"My guess is that the 5 doesn't get released until October 2012. it will be a different form (though really the 4 is pretty perfect) and probably thinner, with the standard incremental hardware upgrades, and probably 4G if they can get 1 day battery life with the 4G radio.I am completely happy with my 4S coming from a 3GS, I just spent a week in Europe with the phone as my primary camera and device.
1/28/2012 9:47:44 AM
I went from a 3GS to a 4s and couldn't have gone another day. From now on I'll upgrade every year. It's basically free anyway, I got $200 for my 3GS on Craigslist.
1/28/2012 12:57:05 PM
I doubt the overall phone gets bigger. In the past, Apple has said that they believe this is the ideal size
1/28/2012 1:07:18 PM
say what you will but the difference between the 4s and 3gs doesn't mean much in terms of user experience..the camera is still not the best and the screen is still the same size..if the battery life was 2-4x better and the screen was an inch or two bigger that would make it a much better phone
1/28/2012 7:22:47 PM
You, sir, are clearly out of your God damned mind. The bump in screen resolution alone is worth the cost of an upgrade. As is the bump in processing power. Neither of them might not be super noticeable when upgrading, but just try going back for a week and then see how you feel about it. I agree that the camera isn't the best, Any digital camera over $300 is going to be better, but, oh wait, when you're comparing it to cell phones, it actually is one of the best available. Of course everyone would like better battery life, but in most real world comparisons, it's better than most, and not everyone actually wants a bigger screen. I see people with those giant Android phones and wonder how they even reach the middle of the screen when holding it with one hand. I'd like to see the same sized phone with a screen that runs all the way to the edge, but I (and from studies I've read most other iPhone owners) am perfectly content with the size of my screen.

you are right nacho, we need all the processor we can get and tons of pixels on a 4.5 inch screen

^^ I have a 4, and broke out my 3gs to retrieve some data and then to erase the memory on it...after getting used to the 4, the difference in the displays was pretty striking. I mean, I could tell the difference when I upgraded to the 4, but I would really miss the display on the 4 if I didn't have it now.
1/29/2012 10:25:44 PM
^ yeah the retina display is one of the most compelling reasons to use an iPhone.I guess people who say that a 4" screen doesn't need that many pixels don't really get what resolution is, or understand what scaling means, or resolution-independence.
1/29/2012 10:36:51 PM
I got an 4s 32 GB yesterday and all I can say is that I don't think I'll ever go back to android again.
1/30/2012 11:45:19 AM
^^^^interesting editorial...never heard someone argue that a 4.5" screen is bad and hard to use with one handis that for people with 20/20 vision and baby hands?
1/30/2012 4:44:14 PM
Yeah ... my thumb does not have this problem and it can reach all but the far-top corner comfortably:Maybe I have big hands?
1/30/2012 5:45:05 PM
is 3.7 the largest screen if it went edge to edge? i think i read that somewhere. i think 4 is a nice round number
1/30/2012 5:46:39 PM
I wish that the 4/4S wasn't so slippery. It is really hard to hold onto without a bumper/other case. Also, if you are driving with it on your lap, forget about it. after the first turn that thing is between the seat and the console.i dont know what to do about it, but I feel like my 3GS was easier to hold on to. The 4 is way better in all other aspects imo.

so the only thing i don't like about my iphone is that it doesn't show the current temp and weather conditions on the lock screen. its not a huge deal since i can get to this info in 3 iterations, but still it would be nice to show temp and weather conditions along with time and date. is there a way to change this?
1/31/2012 2:41:23 PM
I'd think you could download some sort of theme that would have that. Its in the thread somewhere, I remember seeing it about a week ago, like on page 170 i think[Edited on January 31, 2012 at 2:55 PM. Reason : -]
1/31/2012 2:50:18 PM
i'm new to the iphone so forgive me, but to change the theme do i need to jailbreak my phone?
1/31/2012 2:58:46 PM
I can't give an unbiased answer. My phone is jailbroken and I'm of the opinion anyone that doesn't jailbreak sucks.
1/31/2012 3:09:45 PM
i'm not apposed to jailbreaking but will i loose all my current data (apps, messages, music, etc)?does it wipe my phone and like starting new? does it void any sort of warranty. i've only had my iphone for a month now so i'm new to this. i would like to be able to tweak features though, like weather info on my lock screen.
1/31/2012 3:16:05 PM
just sync your iphone right before you jailbreak and you are all set- but no it doesn't take away your stuff[Edited on January 31, 2012 at 3:23 PM. Reason : -]
1/31/2012 3:23:23 PM
cool. running the GreenPois0n Absinthe jailbreak now
1/31/2012 3:28:51 PM
1/31/2012 3:31:50 PM
so my iphone is now jailbroken, but it seems like a lot of the "apps" (evidently calling programs downloaded from Cydia as apps is a no-no) are not compatible with iOS 5.0.1 including Cydget and Winterboard which are pretty must must haves. I guess I'll just have to wait.
1/31/2012 4:35:35 PM
youtube is your friend on matters such as this. google your version of the iphone and winterboard and i'm sure someone has a video on it
1/31/2012 4:37:08 PM
yeah i've looked at the vids but haven't seen anything like this
1/31/2012 5:00:03 PM
That's just a dependency error. Try manually installing libhide and preferenceloader. Winterboard is definitely compatible with 5.0.1.
1/31/2012 5:20:38 PM
i've looked around for a way to do manually install the dependencies. from what i've found it's easiest to restore the iphone and then re-install GreenPois0n Absinthe jailbreak. it should load the needed dependencies. i'm giving that a shot now.
1/31/2012 5:36:20 PM
Install lockinfo for your purpose. It's about 8 bucks but the best for lockscreen info.
1/31/2012 5:47:43 PM
1/31/2012 5:53:25 PM
I'm genuinely curious if he got it working.
2/1/2012 1:05:01 AM
I, too, am curious if he figured it out.
2/1/2012 9:20:58 AM
ok i got it. i restored the phone then performed the jailbreak and it worked fine. i'm demoing lockinfo now. its pretty slick. one more question. i'm also playing around with some other themes and in order to customize them you actually have to change the code or replace files. i installed ifile so i can do this from my phone but it would be helpful to have an SSH program so I can make edits from my PC. can you reccomend a windows based SSH program that's free?
2/1/2012 9:29:06 AM
winscp
2/1/2012 9:30:15 AM
thanks!
2/1/2012 9:33:24 AM
what do you think about iphonebrowser?
2/1/2012 9:53:36 AM
only use safari. shrink is a good one to look into, 5 icon dock is a good one to look into. will post more as i think of it. oh mywi is a good one(lets you tether, just don't go nuts)
2/1/2012 10:00:01 AM
iphonebrowser is a an SSH program, not an internet browser. I like it a lot better then WinSCP as you don't have to login through an IP...just have the phone plugged in via USB. also no login credentials and its drag and drop.i got the 5 icon dock...like it. i was looking for a lock screen icon app and i downloaded one but when i used it it made my springboard crash so i removed it.
2/1/2012 10:47:56 AM
here are a couple screen shots of lockinfo[Edited on February 1, 2012 at 11:01 AM. Reason : space]

Hey there Jared!
2/1/2012 1:56:20 PM
HEEEEEEEEEEEEY!!
2/1/2012 2:59:08 PM
dude that looks pretty sweet. i need something like that.
2/1/2012 10:50:42 PM
while im familiar with jailbreaking i fail to see what those two screenshots show that imply its benefit over normal iOS. so you can see your dashboard from the lockscreen? that's a terrible idea b. the last thing i want is for heauxs to pick up my phone and see any and all emails or texts im getting without first unlocking the screen. that's not not my journey.
2/2/2012 9:43:44 AM
oh wow i have to start saying "that's not my journey"
2/2/2012 9:58:22 AM
^^ I agree there are some privacy concerns. I'm just demoing the software now. Not sure if I'm going to keep it or if it's worth the $8. Like you said I can access the same info in two more gestures (home button + swipe to unlock + info shade). I'll probably just change my lock screen to the typophone weather lock screen which is free and since the whole reason I started down this path was to be able to see current weather conditions from the lock screen.
2/2/2012 10:41:01 AM
apologies for the double negative.
2/2/2012 11:03:27 AM
cool screen brah

I'm getting close to my upgrade date with AT&T. Going to have to make two big decisions:- Switching to Verizon, and- Switching to an iphone.Switching to Verizon all depends on what kind of deal I can get. I pay about $105 a month for my data plan with AT&T. My gf somehow pays $80 for the same plan at Verizon. If I can swing that, I might jump over. Or if we can get a joint plan that also lowers the bill. We'll see...but I've actually had a good relationship and good coverage with AT&T/Cingular during my 12+ year run with them. The Iphone/Android is going to be a little tougher. I love my Samsung Captivate...but it definitely has the "computer problems" (freezes, lags...does all the things computers do when they're overworked or too full). I know a lot of that has to do with the fact I have very little storage on my phone. I do love the size and quality of the screen. Battery life is starting to struggle a little bit, but its still pretty solid.By update time, I will have a Macbook Pro for the office, regular macbook for home, and possibly even an ipad. Shouldn't I just get an iphone to sync everything up easily. I'm not a big techie that needs an Android platform to do all of my own shit. What say you?
