I still carry a 1911, either commander or full size...or my long slide. 8 Rounds is just fine...
6/7/2013 1:23:05 PM
I just don't see how people conceal guns that heavy.
6/7/2013 1:29:06 PM
6/7/2013 1:31:55 PM
Yeah I wouldn't carry my 1911 but then it's a double stack 14-18 (@.45)rounder (depending on my mag) And has a Dawson magwell she's kinda a heavy bitch
6/7/2013 1:55:34 PM
The Sig Scorpion weights 2.6 pounds (41.6 ounces) with no ammo in it.The Glock 17/22 weights 1.4 pounds (22 ounces) with no ammo. The Glock 30 weights 1.5 pounds (24 ounces) with no ammo.Capacity 8, 15+, 13 respectively

nice GIF The fullsize 1911 is hard to conceal in the summer but oh so easy to shoot well for me. It is a gun with tons of edges and controls, so you have to want to carry and be proficient with it. The number one gripe I have with some friends that want to carry/be more prepared is not spending $100 or so on a real belt to carry on and a real holster. They are always printing and messing with guns that should be easy to carry and conceal. I have carried my all steel 1911 on a wilderness 5 stitch nylon belt and a Milt Sparks Summer Special II. I really like my J frame in a Wild Bills ( even around anymore?) pocket holster when a fullsize gun is not an option.

fyi, the lack of knowledge about firearms and firearm laws by UNC fans is so laughable it makes you want to strangle themhttp://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=78&f=1410&t=11628423&p=9tl;drthey think they're smart by calling a magazine a magazine instead of a clip, while saying its loaded with "bullets" instead of cartridgesor they all think NC is a permit-to-own state, ie you must have a non-concealed carry permit on you to have a gun in your possession!note: none of them obviously mentioned terms like permit-to-own or permit-to-purchase, they're too stupid[Edited on June 7, 2013 at 10:57 PM. Reason : fools, all of them, even the ones that claim they got their knowledge from their LEO buddy]

anyone convert berdan to boxer brass?is it safe still having the two holes on the edges?
6/9/2013 10:38:21 PM
It's more than just drilling a hole. Not worth it.
6/10/2013 6:32:01 AM
Yeah it looks like you need to make a bushing to make it fit right and then some other stuff, I just can't find boxer primes 8mm Mauser brass.
6/10/2013 7:05:51 AM
that should tell you something
6/10/2013 7:34:32 AM
^^no you just can find cheap surplus boxer primed brass actually thats not cheap either.PPU and Sellier / Bellot is all boxer brass. Shoots good although a bit underpowered I seem to recall.
6/10/2013 9:52:12 AM
Ppu shoots 196grn@ 2150fps s&b 196@ 2550I have 300 ppu new, loaded right now I found 900 m76 rnds for $510I guess I'll just order more ppu for my brass stash.[Edited on June 10, 2013 at 10:15 AM. Reason : Stupid autocorrect ]
6/10/2013 10:12:53 AM
is it just me or does anyone else feel like winchester pistol ammo shoots kinda dirty? I mean i'll shoot it because hell i just got 100rnds for 24 bucks and thats hard to beat right now and i need the brass for my stash but it seems there is a lot more soot around the muzzle of my pistols after shooting winchester when compared to federal or rem.
6/12/2013 7:57:35 AM
first post double post... almost every day... [Edited on June 12, 2013 at 7:58 AM. Reason : .]
6/12/2013 7:57:36 AM
^^I agree; I quit shooting it a long time ago
6/12/2013 8:41:58 AM
I feel the Remington bulk in the yellow boxes leaves a lot more crap on the gun.
6/12/2013 9:49:03 AM
The win 9mm i shot out of the sr9 made a messThe win 45 i shot out of the para made a bigger mess than ppu.
6/12/2013 10:38:00 AM
Green box Remington is dirty too.
6/12/2013 9:44:37 PM
it all depends on what sort of powder they're using. you might find winchester white box .45 to be dirty, but the .380 WWB may shoot clean. it's a crapshoot.one thing is certain: if you roll your own, then you can pick a powder that you find to shoot cleaner.
6/12/2013 10:26:01 PM
Yep my pistol dies are on back order and I'm still amassing brass. Actually the only dies that have come in are the .308 ones.

Well, sig scorpion is gone. Ran it in a class last weekend, and decided that a 1911 is just not really for me. It ran perfectly, and shot well, and was overall happy with its performance. Then I got out my glock and decided the 1911 will not be joining me stables again. Traded it today for a Saiga .223 AK-47, with 9 mags. KVAR Plum furniture. Now, someone tell me how to add a folding stock.
6/15/2013 11:21:47 AM
I think that adding an original style folding stock (underfolder or triangle side fold) would require you to change out the receiver. I'm sure that there are aftermarket style folders out there that don't require nearly as much work.

I want an ak but I have no need for one really.

I'm trying to decide on a scope for my M1A scout. I'm leaning heavy towards the Leopold VR-X in a 1.5-4.5 power range, but I'm not sure if the forward mount is going to cause heat issues with that particular scope. I'm also weighing the options of an Trijicon Accupoint in a similar range or possibly even an ACOG if they allow enough eye relief.Anyone have any good advice on forward mounted scopes?

Rem model 700 xcr tactical long range vs savage 110/111 long range hunter In 300 win mag??
6/17/2013 9:09:08 PM
Savage, just because I hate the 700. Who wants a riveted strip of spring steel for an extractor?
6/17/2013 9:54:36 PM
I like savages all but the trigger options.I'm probably going to have pendergraft build a custom actioned setup, I can afford it and it should last forever so why not ?
6/17/2013 10:38:00 PM
there aren't many aftermarket trigger options for the savage because the factory trigger is good enough, especially the target version with the red blade. if you need something better than that, then you're having a custom action built and there's nothing Remington about a custom 700 action.
6/17/2013 10:40:55 PM
I didn't think the target trigger was offered in the long action rifles.
6/17/2013 11:17:17 PM
that should be a clue
6/18/2013 7:58:14 AM
Anyone near raleigh have mid length factory handguard for ar? Need it by tomorrow Noon. $5?
6/18/2013 8:48:47 AM
^^ i'm clueless? lol nahh i just don't like the bladed triggers... dunno why....
6/18/2013 10:54:46 AM
have you ever shot one? it's the only way you're going to get a trigger capable of being adjusted that low from the factory.
6/18/2013 12:33:39 PM
Yeah I had a 111 lrh in .338
6/18/2013 1:47:00 PM
I love my 114 Classic stainless.
6/18/2013 8:46:02 PM
bought a Del-Ton Evolution today from Fuquay Gun.
6/19/2013 2:21:48 AM
Wat is that carbine known for ? Seems like every ar has an theme the build around like precision varmint gun or light weight pencil barrel or all around reliable gun or something. I'm not very familiar with the del ton so I don't know it's mission.
6/19/2013 7:33:01 AM
it's just a 16" lightweight middy with a free float handguard. one of the most common AR configurations you'll find. you could hunt with it, do defensive carbine stuff, or even 3 gun sort of stuff.
6/19/2013 8:00:54 AM
HB937 is in danger. You people need to get on the horn to sheriffs, the NCGA, and Pat McCrony. HB937 is one of the most expansive and important gun bills ever in this state. Obviously it doesn't surpass the CCH bill, but it's right up there with HB650 (Castle Doctrine).

Cant decide if I want to buy a Mossberg 500 or 930.I definitely want wood instead of synthetic, but I dont think the 930 comes in a combo package.I want a 28 inch and 18.5 inch barrel.I know the 500 is tried and tested. I had a tactical model years ago and I believe the Army uses that or the 590. I believe the 590 is the same except beefier with some more specialized models? The only autoloaders Ive ever had were a Remington 11-87 and a Benelli M3. I liked the Benelli because it wasnt gas operated and didnt make a big mess of itself, but it was too pricey for its intended job.930 reviews look like a mixed bag. Autoloaders are understandably more sensitive to ammo type, but I cant find if the design has any glaring weak links? For example, I dont like a CZ712 because of the rubber O-ring in the gas assembly that you can only source from CZ.
6/21/2013 3:34:01 PM
I have a Beretta 1201fp and it uses the same system as the Benelli and much cheaper. Got mine for around $500 and it has fed everything I threw at it.
6/21/2013 3:37:40 PM
The 500 and 590 are nearly the same, with 90% being identical. They look the same, but internals do not swap around. The stocks can be swapped. The barrel/feed tube are different systems.I have not heard anything negative about the 930 from the few people I know that have them.My opinion: 500=cheap and reliable. 930=more fun
