I'm having those Facebook problems on my 4 and I'm still using iOS 4.1 so pretty sure it's just the FB app. I keep checking everyday for an update hoping they have worked out some of the bugs.
11/5/2011 8:46:40 AM
my biggest problem with facebook is that it exists.
11/5/2011 11:19:47 AM
^ so tuff
11/5/2011 12:33:33 PM
Yeah, I got off of FB a month ago and haven't "looked back."I must be awesome. But otherwise, I like my new 4S, but am a little frustrated with one thing about it, and I'm not sure if this is a 4S thing, or a AT&T to Verizon thing, but my Recent Calls don't show up as contact, but as raw phone numbers. My folks, work, parents, doctor, etc., all show us as their phone numbers. When I try and "add to existing contacts," it lets me do it, but still displays as phone numbers in the recent list.Same thing with texts.
11/5/2011 9:39:10 PM
^I'd be interested to see if anyone else is having that problem...sounds crappyMy 4S is being delivered on Monday

Question: During activation, I was told I would need to connect to my wifi. How do I determine the iphone's mac address during the activation process? My network is mac filtered.also, does wifi need to be left on in order for it to backup/update every night?
11/5/2011 10:31:13 PM
1. don't turn wifi off unless you really need to (why are you doing this to begin with?) 2. it backs up when you plug it into a power source iirci don't think you HAVE to be connected to wifi for activation. could be wrong.[Edited on November 5, 2011 at 11:12 PM. Reason : ]

oh...i thought leaving wifi on would drain the battery very quickly. i was just going to rely on the cell network for my data needs
11/5/2011 11:15:35 PM
umm nope. you may be thinking of bluetooth.[Edited on November 5, 2011 at 11:17 PM. Reason : ]

for some reason Siri isnt talking back to me anymore.
11/6/2011 6:14:56 PM
So I was messing around with Siri tonight asking her those silly questions people ask to get a response. I asked her the "woodchuck" question, to which she replied, "That would depend on whether you are talking about European or African wood." Then I asked the question again, except using European wood...her response (which she spoke): [Edited on November 6, 2011 at 9:19 PM. Reason : mores]

just got my iphone 4s in the mail...trying to transfer my contacts from my droid eris using google sync. on my iphone, do i need to contact sync with microsoft exchange in the mail settings? Or can I use the gmail setting under mail to sync the contacts? Should I just do contacts with microsoft exchange and turn off mail/calendar and use the gmail setting for mail?[Edited on November 7, 2011 at 4:39 PM. Reason : ya]
11/7/2011 4:39:31 PM
I just use exchange for everything but I'm not on OS5 yet. The push is now built into the Gmail setup right?
11/7/2011 5:02:40 PM
i have no idea...i'm wondering why i can't go into the mail settings and just choose the gmail setting to sync my contacts?http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138740&topic=14252
11/7/2011 5:13:01 PM
use itunes to sync your contacts.and yes, you can push gmail
11/7/2011 11:01:16 PM
i used google sync to sync my contacts...ended up working..however, there is not a setting to push Gmail. not in the "gmail" mail setting..You can set up gmail as a microsoft exchange mail and then it will push it... but that's a work around
11/8/2011 5:36:59 AM
I set up my gmail account as gmail a few weeks ago (post ios5) and it definitely did not push. I finally deleted it and set it up as exchange instead.
11/8/2011 7:38:15 AM
yeah, you can have it push via Exchange but not native Gmail. which sucks if, like me, you have both an exchange work email and gmail personal.Google also released an official Gmail app this month which may be of use to some of you.

Is the general consensus pretty good for the iPhone 4S? I see alot about battery usage problems, will those be fixed in the next iOS update?Thinking about jumping from Sprint onto the Verizon with the double data package they are offering starting today.
11/8/2011 11:20:56 AM
5.01 will, allegedly, fix the battery drain issues.Reviews have been largely positive. The most negative thing I've seen (other than the battery drain problem) is just that it's not that big of a step over the 4 so if you already have a 4 there's no reason to upgrade.
11/8/2011 11:28:03 AM
quality control on iPhone 4S is shit
11/8/2011 12:04:32 PM
WHO CARESsiri? really?? that's all you got? something that could easily be run on the iphone 4 but you limited it ti iphone 5 to increase sales? PAH!
11/8/2011 2:54:56 PM
for those with the iphone 4s. after about 12 hours of average use, how much battery do you have remaining?I unplugged mine at 6AM with a full charge...have made some calls, facebook, etc... just average use and i have 83% battery left as of 4:30PM.so that's only a 17% drain after 10.5 hours...
11/8/2011 4:29:00 PM
I use my iPhone ALL the time, like more often than not I am streaming radio or music if I am awake.... but I also have about a dozen power cords (literally) so I always have that shit plugged in except at the gym... but thats only about 3 min a month amirite?
11/8/2011 5:20:02 PM
I use my iPhone 4 a decent amount. Typically charge it before I go to bed. It's usually still at 99-100% 8 hours later when I wake up. Depending on calls and usage it'll be down to 75-80% by the end of the day. I took it backpacking a couple weekends ago. Had it in airplane mode unless I was using the GPS. Listened to music, read, etc. Was down to 88% by the end of 3 days. I also have Google Latitude running in the background 24/7. I don't know how the 4s compares but I'm quite impressed with the battery on the 4. It's even jailbroken with a decent amount of mods. I'm still on 4.2.1. I'm scared to upgrade and lose my great battery life.

The battery issue is purportedly an iOS5 bug that will be fixed within a few weeks via update.http://www.pcworld.com/article/243254/apple_fixing_iphone_4s_battery_problem_other_user_issues.html

The documentation from Verizon says 4G smartphones only. He doesn't have a 3G phone so the rep he talked to was probably just clueless.
11/9/2011 3:21:53 PM
its worth a call to see.I mean it worked with my 4s
11/9/2011 3:24:04 PM
Sounds like you found one of those clueless reps. And unless their online site is buggy which is possible, it confirms that it's limited to 4G devices. If you try to purchase a 3G phone it only shows the usual 2,5,10 but if you go with a 4G device it shows 4,10,20. Not saying you won't find a rep to do it over the phone but don't be surprised if it gets dropped later.

the 4s battery problem has gotta be just a small % of all the phones... i haven't had a problem at all. i updated to 5.0.1 this morning and haven't seen any decrease in battery life...I unplugged my phone from the charger thursday morning and it was 100%. This morning when I got up, it was down to 17%.. that's over 48 hours with talking, messages, facebook, downloading some apps, watched espn live for a while, etc...i plugged it in for 45 minutes this morning and it went up to 85%.
11/12/2011 11:18:44 AM
damn... mine has always been shitty, even before iOS5. It will be at 100% when I wake up, I will listen to the radio using it when I'm in the shower, text, email a few times, then drive to work texting a bit (no comments!) and by 10:30 or so I will be at 70% without doing anything heavy duty at all.

have a casein the market for a clear screen protector now. i refuse to pay $17 for the one they have at the stores (or even higher)there are tons of them on ebay for 99 cents...but i don't know which ones are legit or great quality.. i don't want one that is super sticky..just one that clings to the screen and i can smooth out real well. suggestions?
11/13/2011 7:02:37 PM
imo you don't need one unless you're carrying it around in your pocket w/ a bunch of change & keys. i don't use them & the couple of people who do at our office just seem to have more problems w/ them than anything else. dirt/pocket lint/other tiny pieces of junk get stuck to the edges of the film & can damage the glass.

Wife's iPhone 4 battery is shit. Updated to 5.01 last night and it's worse. Wondering if she should just take it back to Apple.
