We lost because we had to play a 3rd string safety at nickel and they put their best receiver over there to pick on him all day. Also Emezie was in

6/15/2018 1:11:25 PM
wasn't wake's best WR hurt when we played them?
6/15/2018 3:32:28 PM
Yea Im not out on DD or anything, but occasionally beating the top team while also occasionally losing to bad teams is better than ONLY occasionally losing to bad teams, imo
6/15/2018 3:47:00 PM
^^yep, he completely changed the image/public perception of the program.
6/15/2018 7:04:22 PM
That 9-0 run was the most fun season ive ever had watching sports.
6/15/2018 7:29:39 PM
As far as state sports absolutely. The 15-1 Panthers season was my favorite of any sport though.CJ Clark announcing today?
6/16/2018 8:25:40 AM
I think Monday for Clark is what I readIkem Ekwonu 3* OL from Charlotte is announcing today. I think we’re likely to get him. Offers from GT, UNC, Vandy, UVA, MD, Syracuse
6/16/2018 8:57:19 AM
And he picked state.
6/16/2018 12:06:02 PM
I like that we are getting a lot of good in-state recruits. NC has a lot of talent year in and year out. We aren’t Texas or Florida, but I do think if we could lock down most of the top 10-15 players in the state each year we could have a great program. The state of Georgia this year is exceptionally talented, something like seven 5* players this year when there are only thirty-four 5* players total on 247 Sports. I am mainly tired of seeing us come up short against Clemson when recruiting players and seeing them go on to become good-great college players. NC Player Recruiting Rankingshttps://247sports.com/Season/2019-Football/CompositeRecruitRankings?InstitutionGroup=HighSchool&State=NC
6/16/2018 3:23:05 PM
^ while I totally agree that locking down in state talent is important and key to success, I think that’s way easier said than done. You mentioned Clemson. They’re a top 5 program nationally and they border NC...geographically a good portion of recruits are closer to Clemson than to Raleigh. So there’s no real shame in losing top guys to Clemson. It’s hard to compete with them. Where we can improve (and imo have seen improvements) is not losing guys to SCar or Tennessee or VT. Those programs are also close geographically to NC and while more nationally relevant (or at least buoyed by the SEC brand in the case of SCar) those programs aren’t light years ahead of us like Clemson. Yes, I wanna beat out Clemson for recruits. But who could blame an NC kid for picking a top 5 program that just happens to be a couple hours away over us?
6/16/2018 4:20:46 PM
Tennessee is also closer to Raleigh for some NC recruits.
6/16/2018 5:10:54 PM
2019 TE Kam Walker from Canton, NC also committed today
6/16/2018 5:28:55 PM
^he's a blueshirt? Which I guess means he plans to redshirt?
6/16/2018 8:01:42 PM
6’5 240 Is he a TE or OT? DD likes doing that
6/16/2018 8:11:50 PM
6/16/2018 8:44:48 PM
6/16/2018 8:58:20 PM
Seems like the recruits are pouring in lately. How many spots do we have left in this class?
6/17/2018 8:15:12 AM
We’ll probably take 22 or so, maybe more. We’re at 13 now I think (depending on how you count the recent TE commit). Not sure how many seniors we have, but with normal transfers and guys going pro or just leaving the program I imagine we’ll pretty much always take 20+ even if it’s a small graduating classAnd CJ Clark, 4* DT, is announcing tomorrow. Between us and UGA. Sounds like we maybe have the inside track at this point.
6/17/2018 8:41:31 AM
^between us, uga and unc. Hes visited unc 4 times this month. Even though he showed up to their camp wearing a uga hat...visiting one place that often keeps them in the conversation
6/17/2018 11:05:35 AM
Sure, they’re in the conversation. Just pointing out that most “insiders” say it’s gonna either be State or Georgia that he picks.
6/17/2018 12:00:12 PM
Next 2 weeks could really be big for reloading on the DL. Adding Clark and Harris to Jackson is one hell of a DL haul this class. Curious to see how the QB situation plays out. Think 4* Michael Johnson Jr is taking his OV to NC State next week.
6/17/2018 1:15:22 PM
Clark announcement is today at 2
6/18/2018 10:20:02 AM
Got him!
6/18/2018 2:23:31 PM
6/18/2018 2:27:16 PM
Light it up
6/18/2018 2:35:46 PM
hell fucking yes
6/18/2018 2:39:15 PM
shaping up to be a very strong class
6/18/2018 2:44:36 PM
OH snap!
6/18/2018 2:48:24 PM
Damn DD is getting it done
6/18/2018 3:19:53 PM
Top 20 class currently. Should move up once Harris makes it official.
6/18/2018 3:26:45 PM
barring something really crazy it would seem like in that #16-20 range nationally about the best we can do right now (which is super good). the teams in front of us will likely keep landing big time recruits (the traditional powers), so they''d be hard to pass and then there's a few teams behind us like Penn St or Florida that you'd expect to ultimately finish ahead of us. and finishing in the top 20 would be really really good so i'm not trying to downplay that
6/18/2018 5:23:28 PM
Goes to show you the impact one good season can have on things. Winning games and putting players in the NFL. If we finish with a top 20 class I will be most intrigued. Back that up with another 8+ win season and you can see how the future could be really bright for Doren in Raleigh.
6/18/2018 6:30:23 PM
I think staff continuity helps too.
6/18/2018 6:56:25 PM
^Which is what makes me a little concerned when Drink finally moves on for another gig. But so far Doeren has proven quite capable at hiring staff.
6/18/2018 8:27:05 PM
I, for one, am not concerned with losing Drinkwitz.[Edited on June 18, 2018 at 8:35 PM. Reason : Especially with regards to crootin]
6/18/2018 8:34:53 PM
Hell yeah, keep them coming Doeren!!!
6/18/2018 10:14:28 PM
6/19/2018 7:05:20 AM
^It also takes probably the biggest negative recruiting tool other schools had against us. It was REALLY easy to just say that Doeren was going to get fired with the way things were trending prior to last season. Now if you're Larry Fedora...what is your angle to negatively recruit against NC State? That we have too much talent on the team? I'd love to hear that negative recruiting against us with Clark. "I know they had a good season last year, their coach has a new deal and he worked to get more money for his assistants, and yes they just had their entire starting DL drafted last year, but...but... they have more talent on the DL than we do even after losing 4 starters so you'll definitely have an easier time earning PT here!"
6/19/2018 8:49:04 AM
if (big if) we can continue on an upward trajectory, we can establish ourselves as the premier football school in the state. unc didn't really capitalize on their big 11-1 season a few years back and quickly slid back to the middle of the pack (and well below average last year). the state of NC will always have recruits poached by nearby powers like Clemson until an NC program establishes itself as a consistently nationally relevant and prominent team. but if we establish ourselves as the best program in the state and are the first in-state choice for in-state guys, that would prevent a lot of the better in-state guys from being spread out between state, unc, and other schools. we can, hopefully, be in a position to get the majority of the top in-state guys.
6/19/2018 9:24:53 AM
We need to win another 8 or 9 games this year and have another strong draft. The 8/9 games will be tough, but not impossible. And I think Finley, Harmon, Roseboro, Pratt, Tyler Jones, and Bradbury should all get drafted. Outside shots for guys like Stephen Louis, Jakobi Meyers, and some secondary guys that show out. If that happens, recruiting is only going to get better.
6/19/2018 10:47:18 AM
6/19/2018 11:19:53 AM
Yeah you pretty much nailed it.
6/19/2018 11:37:19 AM
I think bc and Cuse should be swapped out. Even at home, BC has a young talented team. Cuse, on the other hand, lost every all acc performer they hadUNC also had a TON of injuries last year. Can't expect that again. Also I still think losing Hines and Richardson were just huge. We may struggle to run the ball at times this year.
6/19/2018 1:58:07 PM
^^^^ feel like Prescod has a really good chance at getting drafted next year too (or at least signed as an UDFA). saw that he's the #3 returning interior lineman among P5 schools (and 11th among all ACC players - higher than all our players except Finley), according to their PFF grade last year.[Edited on June 19, 2018 at 2:09 PM. Reason : ]
6/19/2018 2:08:05 PM
^^yeah BC could be pretty good this year. AJ Dillon is a beast. Cuse does return QB Eric Dungey, who, if healthy is a good QB...but he's not been able to stay healthy much. and i agree...UNC won't be as bad next year. but who is their QB? i don't see them being particularly good, but definitely improved.how dare y'all not mention AJ Colle III as a potential draft pick
6/19/2018 2:47:14 PM
Yea Dungey gets the job done, but have to see if they can replace those WRs. The two guys that combined for 300 yds receiving against us are gone, along with the 2 leading tacklers (1 of whom ended Nichols' career)
6/19/2018 3:20:47 PM
Hines is going to be a huge loss. I like Gallaspy in certain situations where we get real downhill but I can't see him much in the passing game from that spot and we need versatility in the every down back. That being said, he will end up with the job.Let's hope Person is as advertised and lights it up as a change of pace guy.
6/19/2018 4:38:59 PM
IMO the recruiting the last 2 years is a product of DD & staff being in place for several years & establishing long term relationships with the kids. Trend could continue.
6/19/2018 7:44:24 PM
Got a long snapper commit to replace the defector
