Mine took all night to download and install on my iPhone 4. I started at 7pm with updating iTunes and doing a full backup. Then downloaded iOS5. The whole thing lasted through the night. I woke up this morning at 430am and it was done. When I first used it, it was like starting over from scratch. All my apps were installed, but none of their data. None of my contacts were there. All my email accounts were gone. All my pics, vids, and songs were gone. It asked whether I wanted to restore using iCloud or iTunes. It kept freezing at the "Connect to iTunes" screen. It is basically a brand new phone out of the box with 50 extra apps installed on it. I've been searching to see if this has been an issue with others, but I'm not seeing it.

I got the error message everyone else has been getting (3200 or something) and it said I had to restore my phone to factory settings. At that point it was unuseable. I was like oh shit here goes, but then it ran through everything and had to re-transfer my music and apps from itunes but in the end everything came back fine and I had ios5. I'm really digging the background sync, wireless sync, less intrusive notifications and imessage. It looks like location based reminders don't work with 3GS or maybe I'm missing something. Right now I'm not really seeing what the cloud is going to do for me. So my iphone photos show up in iphoto. I don't have a problem with it. Maybe as time goes on i'll see the benefit more.

^Yea I got it setup about 3 yesterday afternoon on my iPod, and it did the exact same thing. Error 3200. Then it backed up, setup to factory default, and reloaded everything on my iPod. After that it did just fine.

So far, what I like most about iOS5 is that I can sync the iPad and keep using the thing while it's syncing. It confused me at first, not having what I was reading completely disappear and realizing that I could continue reading and it would just sync in the background. Hell, even Pandora kept running. There are a lot of nice little enhancements, but so far that's the one that's stuck out to me the most.

Still shitty in the selection of notification tones and what I can assign them to.

El Nachothe problem is, I have two different itunes/app store accounts, and about 200 apps from each are on my iPad. Only one of the accounts is associated with my PC and I cant change that fact. So if I do transfer purchases while connected to itunes on my pc, would that one time get all of them or just the ones from the itunes accounts that is associated with the pc?
10/13/2011 2:43:08 PM
It should transfer them all when you select Transfer Purchases. Even if they're not associated with your iTunes account.
10/13/2011 2:50:54 PM
iOS5 battery life = still a fail
10/13/2011 2:52:18 PM
^^ ok, will try this when I get home... and here is a stupid question. does it store the apps/data for the iPad in a separate file(s) on my PC than it does for the app/data for my iPhone? In other words, if I do transfer purchases from my iPad to my PC will that override or add to the transferred purchases from my iPhone or will they stay separate?

^^It stores them in the same place, but it tries (with limited success) to keep it straight which apps are stored on which device. But all of the apps from all devices go to your computer and then you can use the checkboxes to choose which ones go on. I am restoring my iPad right now and it is putting most of the apps back on there, but I had a couple of universal apps that used to be on the iPad and iPhone and it didn't put those back on the iPad. But all I had to do was put the checkbox back next to those apps and resync and it added them. It's truly a pain in the ass, but iTunes sucking balls is hardly news.

my iphone essentially gets stuck at the backup stage. first it wouldn't do anything b/c i didn't have enough room on my computer to save the backup (wat?). i think that's bull based on my space, but i took the time to delete some old photos and clean things up a bit anyway. now it's just stuck. :-/

So I have an old iphone 3g and I have been stuck on ios 4.2.1 for a while. My new phone is coming in tomorrow with ios 5....will I have problems syncing from a backup with my old phone to my new one? I have all my information on my mac but I really want to transfer my text messages too....

So to what you said. I have NOTHING on my phone now. It is brand new all over again. Went to Apple and ATT and tried to have them link my old blackberry with at least some of the numbers I used to have and they said that those little things you plug the phones into that company isnt set up for 5 yet so I am screwed with NOONE's number...PikeyAll American4522 Postsuser infoedit post Mine took all night to download and install on my iPhone 4. Make sure to manually back up your pics/vids? Itunes doesn't do that right?
10/14/2011 12:03:28 AM
it did for me. Just make sure you tell it to sync them in iTunes.[Edited on October 14, 2011 at 1:01 AM. Reason : The one that I always forget is the motherfucking ringtones. ]

I was in the Crabtree Apple store yesterday picking up a new laptop battery and the salesguy helping me was talking about how they didn't think they'd have enough phones for even half the line they were expecting.

I'm really tempted to accept wiping my 3GS to upgrade to iOS5 (my laptop is 800 miles away and has a broken fan awaiting me replacing it). But I think I'll wait until the servers get their act together.
10/14/2011 9:53:23 AM
i've updated all but one of our 8 lines & had no problems downloading or installing. did it all on the day after the os release. my mom even did hers herself (which is insane bc she just called me the other day asking how to send an attachment in an email using a desktop computer, not her iphone). you should be good.
10/14/2011 10:06:09 AM
They must have fixed something today. I just updated my 3GS and it took like an hour. All my data is still in tact.
10/14/2011 10:12:39 AM
ok...so you can't delete or "read" notifications from the lock screen?[waits for untethered jailbreak]
