I just don't drop my phone
9/18/2014 8:15:44 PM
^^downtime is wack. case up, homie
9/18/2014 10:23:54 PM
^ pretty minimal with overnight shipping. about the only case i could stomach is a thin hard shell, but even then i like phones without em.

I've just been very lucky to not yet have a catastrophic phone failure from a drop, and i drop my phone a lot. I will say, my HTC One X had some scars, and completely died about a week after I replaced it. The iPhone 4 I had previously is still ticking though, used as a kids gaming device.[Edited on September 19, 2014 at 1:50 PM. Reason : :]
9/19/2014 1:50:17 PM
my HTC One M8 has been dropped on asphalt and concrete multiple times, and even survived a ~12' off a ladder onto concrete. the sides and corners have a few scratches and one little divot but the screen and phone are otherwise perfectly intact and working. 2 (3?) of the drops were without a case, the rest of the drops on concrete or asphalt have been in a case. the 12' drop off the ladder was with the phone in the HTC dot view case.[Edited on September 19, 2014 at 2:46 PM. Reason : benefits of a metal frame ]

I get the occasional drop, but how do some people drop their phone so often? Do you just not care about it? Do you keep it in a pocket conducive to your phone falling out all the time? Are you just clumsy?
9/19/2014 2:51:38 PM
my biggest issue is forgetting to take it out of my pocket before driving the offroad side-by-side around a project site and it being able to bounce out onto the ground. i've straight up dropped it though at least once while taking a picture, the ladder drop was because i was taking a picture and it slipped out of my hands[Edited on September 19, 2014 at 2:58 PM. Reason : (driving the stupid gator is why i bought a case, before that i never used cases)]
9/19/2014 2:57:52 PM
^^First time dropping this phone. I didn't want to get the warranty because i've never broken a phone before. I had a case ordered from amazon a week ago that hasn't arrived yet. Just the kind of luck i've had this week.

I'm looking for a nexus 5. If you got one you're looking to get rid of, let me know your price.

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6407?viewlocale=en_USIf anyone is thinking about trying iOS, Apple has a handy guide here on transferring content from Android.
9/21/2014 2:45:34 AM
I think more people would be interested in switching from iOS to Android.
9/21/2014 1:58:38 PM
That's a pretty lengthy guide.Want to transfer content from your old Android to your new Android?1. Sign in with your Gmail account2. Profit
9/21/2014 2:08:32 PM
Yeah it's so easy. Then do a launcher backup on something like Nova and it saves all your icon positions.
9/21/2014 2:29:07 PM
^^ it's the same for iOS, to switch between iOS devices, just sign in with your Apple ID.

What's everyone use for conference bridge dialers? I was using MobileDay before. Looking for something a little simpler.

http://www.maclife.com/article/news/morning_report_iphone_6_volte_now_verizon_apples_new_repair_costsI posted this in the Apple thread, but posting here for you lepers too. If you have a phone that supports volte, looks like Verizon had turned on support for this, but you need to enable it for free.Does Android do Wi-Fi calling too?
9/22/2014 5:01:10 PM
has for a few years
9/22/2014 5:12:14 PM
Yeah been using wifi and data voip calling for years. Google just turned on calling in Hangouts on Android as well. I believe it's turned on in iOS too. You can call any US number in Hangouts for free now on your phone over wifi or a data connection. Used it a bunch when I was in Toronto last week. The call quality over hangouts was actually better than a normal call.

Anyone excited about this codename "shamu" phone from motorola?I have a moto 360 on order but I cancelled it, it was on back order until October 17.
9/27/2014 2:12:21 AM
is anyone excited about a motorola phone? probably not.
9/27/2014 2:33:11 PM
the Maxx is a great device
9/27/2014 3:06:34 PM
^^^if you want a moto 360 check out the local best buys. one of my buddies just walked in and picked one up last week.
9/28/2014 3:50:55 PM
So this is bullshit. Had an S5 (Sprint) for all of two weeks. And now I can't get any audio out of the speaker, handset, or headphones. Bluetooth audio works fine. Restored back to stock via Odin but that didn't do the trick either. All I get it a faint static sound out of either speaker. Even get some static when the phone is turned off. It doesn't make any sense. The only thing I can pinpoint between when it was working and when it wasn't was I was making a Wi-Fi call, was walking around work at the time so it dropped signal somewhat... the audio on the call I was making dropped out and started glitching, so I hung up. Ever since then I can't get any audio out of the phone, and the person on the other side of calls can't hear me either.Bought it from Amazon but not really sure what route to take here.
9/28/2014 11:40:33 PM
also, why the FUCK is it so hard to restore to a nandroid backup that you've since removed from the phone?
9/29/2014 12:14:44 AM
got my s5 repaired at a local cell phone repair shop. $220 to replace the entire LCD display. Works good as new now though. Bought a case to put on the bad boy as soon as they gave it back to me.
9/29/2014 5:19:18 PM
Is there an easy way to setup non-GV wifi calls in an area with shitty reception so that you can receive incoming calls? Most of what I've read is GV and based on outgoing calls.]
9/30/2014 12:10:05 AM
I can receive calls to my GV number on hangouts if I choose. Can't use your carrier number on hangouts for receiving/making calls if that's what you're asking. At least I don't think.
9/30/2014 12:25:03 AM
^ it looks like if your phone supports vOlte you can now both receive calls over wifi on your regular phone number, as well as roam from the cell network to wifi while on a call.
9/30/2014 12:49:43 AM
Oh neato. Yeah reading about that now.
9/30/2014 12:51:12 AM
I can't for the life of me decide on a flagship phone for my contract renewal. I went and played with them yesterday (hate the big clunky shit attached to them at the store) and wasn't sure. Don't like the plasticky feel/look of the S5; like the look and feel of M8 but it might even be too heavy/thick; liked the LG G3 a lot but have heard that it has buggy software sometimes. Meanwhile, I adore the build and feel of the iPhone 6, but it would be so hard to leave Android and get into the Apple ecosystem.
10/4/2014 1:45:02 AM
Droid Maxx

Are they really trying to say there are only 13 phones better than the Fire Phone?
10/5/2014 11:18:50 PM
Hahahaha I had already forgotten they made a phone.
10/5/2014 11:20:30 PM
lol that list
10/6/2014 9:53:11 AM
anyone else get a moto 360?
10/6/2014 8:48:32 PM
^^ Yeah even though I'm a N5 owner, I can't believe they rank that over a G3.

I need to learn the gestures, so far my favorite feature is the step counter, and notifications popping up on the watch allowing me to not even pull my phone out for some BS.

Just ordered my Gen 2 Moto X. Maxx is gong on ebay.

Can anyone confirm that the Best Buy upgrade trick still works today? Use upgrade at BB, have phone shipped, remove sim card and replace with existing sim, and keep your unlimited plan.I used my upgrade to grab an S5 and keep my unlimited data. I would like to do it again for my wife this week. I heard rumors of Verizon doing away with the loophole in August.
