winning the acc tournament is better than finishing 3rd in the regular season, if thats what you're unclear about. Finishing 3rd would have been a better accomplishment but its also possible that seed desirability gets distorted based on favourable matchups and key injuries. The Grantham and Colson injuries were so important.[Edited on March 3, 2018 at 11:18 PM. Reason : k]

I bet our odds to beat GT/BC and clemson are worse than odds of winning one game against the winner of the UNC game.Seeding matchups matter much more in the NCAA where everyone has the same rest and you always get at least one day bw games. In the ACC tourney odds for 1-4 to win it are greatly improved bc they play 3 games in 3 days instead of 4 in 4
3/3/2018 11:28:12 PM
true but its hard to know why the odds are better. it could just be because the best team usually finishes in the top 4 anyway. you'd have to have a perfect simulator and run it 100 times with each team in each slot to find out but I'd expect the top 4 teams to still win most of the time.
3/3/2018 11:32:20 PM
we'll do run to the championship because everyone will have to play that and its impossible to predict the opponentour draw:BC/GT winner (70%) + Clemson (50%) + Virginia (10%) = 3.5%duke's draw (using our chances):bye (100%) + VT/ND winner (45%) + UNC/Miami winner (20%) = 9%swap us with clemson:Clemson/BC/GT (55%) + Virginia (we'll say 12% since less fatigue) = 6.6%[Edited on March 4, 2018 at 2:03 AM. Reason : swap with miami: unc/syr (25%) + duke/etc (20%) = 5%]

It’s fun to go back and read the beginning of this thread
3/4/2018 9:00:28 AM
Page 4 is where we pretty much all agree that Braxton Beverley won’t be much of a contributor this year and if he’s ruled ineligible it won’t matter.
3/4/2018 9:12:38 AM
^ Would never have expected Beverly to contribute so much. Hell as a senior I wouldn't have expected it.
3/4/2018 1:40:29 PM
Happy where we are. Hated we lost to Georgia tech but perhaps we get to exact some revenge.
3/4/2018 2:17:18 PM
Why is everyone assuming GT is going to get past BC? I heard there may be some injury concerns but not enough to make me think this is a gimme for the Jackets.
3/4/2018 11:53:35 PM
3/5/2018 7:28:33 AM
I think people are giving GT a reasonable chance since they went up to BC earlier in the season and forced OT. Plus I think our fans just see that we beat BC and lost to GT so they assume GT is a better team. BC is the better team, we just played excellent against BC and awful against GT.
3/5/2018 8:45:00 AM
That OT game was with AlvaradoIm assuming we'll play BC
3/5/2018 8:51:22 AM
I want revenge on GT
3/5/2018 10:46:16 AM
Why would you want to play a team we JUST lost to?We need to draw BC to get any tournament jitters out. We can man handle them, then Clemson is a little more daunting task.I want none of UVA in the ACC tourney. They'll get taken to the shed with other conference officials not allowing their tough defense. But I want nothing to do with them.
3/5/2018 11:40:26 AM
I, too, am scared to play good teams
3/5/2018 11:49:46 AM
^^ I get that. But BC is a better team than GT. We *should* be able to handle either of these teams.
3/5/2018 12:07:38 PM
Georgia Tech plays a princeton style offense, and we all know how good that is during tournament time.[Edited on March 5, 2018 at 1:04 PM. Reason : l]
3/5/2018 1:03:35 PM
Hicks leaving
3/5/2018 1:17:51 PM
So we finished 5th in the ACC, and 35th in the AP Poll.Another team finished 6th in the ACC, and 12th in the AP poll....
3/5/2018 5:02:28 PM
And they were in discussion for a possible #1 seed depending on the outcome of the ACC tournament
3/5/2018 5:22:58 PM
Man I don't want to defend UNC. But I will say, NC state lost to UNCG, UNI, GT, and ND (without their 2 best players)We also played 4 teams outside rpi top 300 and 3 more outside 250I won't comment on where unc should be, but if we wanted to be ranked we should have played better or scheduled better. Coaches/ap polls don't matter outside of fans anyway, make our bones from this point forward.
3/5/2018 5:34:18 PM
All I'm saying is that no team should be in consideration for a top NCAA tournament seed with 9 losses (10 if they don't win the ACC). I don't care about SOS/RPI/whatever in that case, you still have to actually win games. UNC is just pulling an extreme Gottfried this year.If UNC is anything higher than a 4 seed with 10 losses, that's a joke.We probably shouldn't be ranked, and I'm fine with that, but UNC is the most overrated team in the country.
3/5/2018 5:42:22 PM
they're the only team in the top-17 with at least 9 lossesthey definitely get the benefit of the doubt based on their name
3/5/2018 5:47:15 PM
theyre going to get a 2 seed unless they lose to syracusewith a couple wins they might even end up with the last 1. they have the most group 1 wins in the country, although thats padded with a bunch of 40-75 road wins
3/5/2018 7:24:15 PM
And when they don't win the ACC, they'll have 10 losses.
3/5/2018 8:29:52 PM
would be pretty funny if the ACC had two #1 seeds -- one with 2 losses and one with 10 losses
3/5/2018 8:43:39 PM
Hicks transferring is expected, although still a bit unfortunate. He's a horrendous fit with Keatts as he isn't big enough to play the 5 but too slow and not enough of a shooter to play anywhere else. That doesn't necessarily mean he's a bad player, just not the right fit. He seemed in control and didn't do anything he wasn't capable of in the limited minutes he played before his injury - those are fairly valuable traits in college basketball, Lennard Freeman made his entire career out of them even. I don't think it's impossible that he would've eliminated Abu from the rotation and given us a solid 10mpg this year had he not gotten hurt. Will be interesting to see where he ends up. Will also be interesting to see what we do with that scholarship. Frees up a possible Yurt return, Simons commit or a grad transfer.
3/5/2018 9:39:32 PM
3/5/2018 9:50:28 PM
Is Yurtseven expected to declare? I don't even follow draft discussion. I figured he'd be here at least another year.
3/5/2018 10:51:59 PM
he's definitely not ready and theres no way his offense is polished enough to make up for the fact that he will not be able to defend a single player in the nba.
3/5/2018 10:54:54 PM
^sounds like atleast half of the first round picks in the NBA every season
3/5/2018 11:01:32 PM
UNCG won SoCon 62-47 and finishes 65 in RPI. Didn't hurt nearly as bad as we expected.
3/5/2018 11:18:47 PM
3/5/2018 11:44:15 PM
He's also obviously much more comfortable playing overseas and doesn't have much to benefit from more college. He's shown out his offensive game this year. Is another year going to give him the lateral quickness to play perimeter defense or athleticism to be a rim running pick and roll big?I think we know what Yurt is after this season
3/5/2018 11:50:02 PM
I never said it was likely or a good career move. That doesn't mean it couldn't happen. We don't know what is going on in Yurt's head or life, his relationship with Keatts or the school, etc. He might hate Keatts for all we know. You need to be prepared for any and all outcomes as a college coach in today's game. Here are other things I wouldn't bet on happening that Keatts should still have contingency plans for:- Dorn leaving- Markell leaving- Batts staying- Manny Bates' injury not healing to the point he has to redshirt next seasonPlayers coming back an extra year does happen with more frequency than we have come to expect. As comparables, Tyler Lydon and Mo Wagner both returned to school and replicated their previous seasons after bursting onto the scene and being "hot" as prospects, even though athletic limitations meant it was unlikely they could improve their stock any further. I'll spare you the countless UNC and Duke guys who have done the same. We're just not used to this phenomenon because it typically only happens at good programs where the coach is more concerned with winning than in promising highly ranked recruits playing time so it looks like he's doing something since he can't coach. I'm not saying it will happen in this case, and in fact would advise Yurtseven against it, but you gotta at least leave that door open because there's very little Keatts can do that would improve next year's squad more than bringing back Omer at what is otherwise looking like our most suspect position.

We will get devantae from UNCW as a grad transfer! Boom
3/6/2018 2:01:59 AM
I hear Devonte graham wants to play one year in Raleigh just to connect with his hometown for one last year of normalcy while fine-tuning his game and competing for a championship.[Edited on March 6, 2018 at 2:07 AM. I get that people hope Yurt comes back, mainly for selfish reasons. There is a reason they passed the mic around after the UL game so the seniors could address the crowd and they let Yurt speak too. He's 100% gone, has been since the first game of the season.
3/6/2018 9:21:58 AM
i did not hear Yurt7 speak after the senior game not sure how i would have missed it

yeah you're right...got confused reading all that.

we would be one of the lowest rpi teams to ever get an atlarge bid

Would that not be the lowest ever at 65?
