this is horseshit. absolute horseshit. we lost that game more than they won it, that's for sure. couldn't adjust to the tall weiner in the lane, threw up a bunch of bullshit, and all of this led us to take the lead in the end only to get the NC STATE SHIT conjured up. Wow. I'm...gone. Just gone.
1/16/2013 10:00:04 PM
I had us 13-5 lising both duke and maryland. Still gonna be 14-4, bet
1/16/2013 10:10:32 PM
Do you people not understand how much of a bunch of classless pricks Duke fans are, and how I'll have to hear about this for the rest of the week as some sort of "constellation prize" from them?
1/16/2013 10:22:26 PM
One of those games where you know the team will still be fine, but it's frustrating as hell to deal with. We play like ass, then start to play a little better, get the lead finally, stop driving the ball in the final 90 seconds and lose on a tip in. I just wish it wasn't fucking Maryland again.
1/16/2013 10:25:55 PM
this was our only game with maryland this year, so we might end up going out with a losing streak before they cowardly join the F4G conference, but i'd love to get revenge in the ACC tourney and have the door hit them on their fat asses as they leave the conference
1/16/2013 10:27:53 PM
I can't wait for fucking sunday now. Unless of course we screw that up (doubt it). Hope not anyway....
1/16/2013 10:28:05 PM
did you fudge nuggets think that beating Duke proved anything? even Lowe beat Duke every now and then. payback is gonna be a byatch in Cameron
1/16/2013 10:38:30 PM
WTF was that shit?!Anyway, they stormed the court when they won. You would have thought they beat the Miami heat or something
1/16/2013 10:39:02 PM
luckily they rushed the court, so EMCE hopefully had a chance to leave the building without getting muggedthe best part of this game was EMCE keeping his butthole virginity]
1/16/2013 10:40:23 PM
Aha, old dude in a Maryland shirt tapped me on the arm on the way out, grinned, and said "you had your win last weekend..."
1/16/2013 10:44:11 PM
nah we dont want any part of maryland in the acc tourney. we need to make the finals this year
1/16/2013 10:44:41 PM
so when was the last time anyone rushed the court/field against us?Progress? Silver lining? Also, realtimerpi continues to a great predictor.

i come here to clear up a lot of the confusion that the rest of you are constantly drenched in.I know more about sports than anyone on this messageboard #1. Just because i use sources to back up my statements doesn't mean i am "parroting" off other peoples work.I often tell you when i dont agree with the numbers, but i do base my arguments in reality. If you dont start with the numbers then you'll never be right when it comes to basketball. It's almost purely a numbers game, it's not like football.
1/16/2013 11:03:40 PM
i think Russell Crowe in A Beautiful Mind could probably come up with a formula that would surpass the college basketball knowledge of Jay Bilas, even if Crowe had never watched a single bball gamehave you guys never seen The Matrix? its all about numbersalso Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting probably knows more about the fundamentals of floor spacing on the pick-and-roll than Hubie Brown because he can solve some equations[Edited on January 16, 2013 at 11:06 PM. 1/16/2013 11:10:35 PM
jay bilas is in my top-5 of guys who know college basketball, i'm sure he uses a ton of resourcesbut he also watches hundreds of games over the course of a season, unlike face's mathematician / economist deity friends
1/16/2013 11:11:40 PM
you dont need to watch a game to solve it. It doesnt mean someone who solves it would be a good COACH. It means they are good at evaluating what is important and what is not.Look at NBA coaches. They know a shit ton about basketball. However, stats will show that the only coaches who have achieved statistically significant positive results in the last 20 years are Phil Jackson and Gregg poppovich. That's because the other guys all know a lot so there aren't HUGE differences between most coaches. There are a few coaches who have shown the ability to help their team lose more games (George Karl for instance) but all in all there is almost no difference between 90% of them.Does that mean I could do as good of a job as George Karl? No, I couldn't most likely. But could I do a better job than most General Managers? Of course I could. Because i know what's important and what's not and I wouldn't waste max money on mediocre players like Russell Westbrook, Rudy Gay, or Danny Granger. That's because I can evaluate what is important, supply/demand, and identify VALUE.You either produce value or you don't. Period. Most guys in upper management couldn't make a sale, lead an operational meeting, or even transfer a service call. But they identify ways to add value. There is a big difference between doing and consulting. You need people to do things, but those people are replaceable. The people who know things sometimes are not.[Edited on January 16, 2013 at 11:20 PM. Reason : a]
1/16/2013 11:18:43 PM
NBA is mostly about the playerscollege bball is a lot more about the coachescome on face, thats basketball 101and if you were an NBA GM you'd have 5 players who averaged double figures in rebounds and 58%+ FG percentage, while your team scored 45 points a game[Edited on January 16, 2013 at 11:24 PM. 1/16/2013 11:25:39 PM
^^^ None of that is even remotely convincing.[Edited on January 16, 2013 at 11:26 PM. Reason : .]
1/16/2013 11:25:46 PM
Correct NBA is almost all players. The coaches main affect is playing the right guys. Like look at the Raptors for instance they've sucked all these years because they play Bargnani one of the worst players in the league a ton of minutes. He gets hurt and suddenly they are a solid team for the first time in five years.College the coaching staff definitely matters a lot more because there is more strategy and differentiation between the players talent level. That is one reason there is much more variability in the college game. Also, because the game has many fewer possessions than a pro game which significantly increases variability.Kenpom is not meant to predict with 100% accuracy what is going to happen each night. What it is meant to do is to get you to stop looking at the black/white "wins and losses" and look at the much more accurate measures of how good a team is.People have a tendency to become very confused by noise. A team wins they are great. A team loses they suck. It's much more complicated than that, and I'd think by the time you were a 30 year old man you'd stop looking at things through the lens of a 7 year old boy.
1/16/2013 11:28:16 PM
its one thing to win a game or lose a gameits another to win 10 games in a row and say we're barely a bubble team and we're not very goodbutler was actually more efficient in the title game versus duke, but nobody remembers that stat, because its a 100% worthless stat because duke hoisted the trophy[Edited on January 16, 2013 at 11:30 PM. Reason : you play, to win, the game][Edited on January 16, 2013 at 11:32 PM. Reason : and black and white wins and losses are what cost coaches their jobs or get them contract extensions]

After the Duke game you all thought we were a significantly better team than we are. After tonight's game you guys probably think we are a significantly worse team than we are. There is a fundamental lack of understanding of relative strength on this board. We're an okay team as of right now.Yes, it's possible that we improve quite a bit. It's also possible that we regress (relative to the other teams who continue to improve). What is MOST LIKELY is that we continue to play at or near our current level for the rest of the season. For every 2011 UCONN team that gets hot and plays great at the end of the year or every 2001 UNC team that completely falls apart at the end of the year there are 10 times as many teams who continue to play right around their current level. I know this is hard for you guys, but it shouldn't be. I've spelled it out clearly enough that even someone who has a cursory understanding of sports in general should understand it.

Herb Sendek coached tonight's game. 7 minute drought, half in the teens and all.
1/17/2013 12:02:51 AM
ugh that loss hurt...Fuck Maryland...2 very winnable games coming up, with 3 more "should"-win games. Would be fine with 1 loss out of those going to Cameron at 7-2...that's getting way ahead of ourselves though. Can't take much positive from this game...on to Clemson.face
1/17/2013 12:04:26 AM
I still lol'd at they rushing the court beating 14th rank State

^^^ the 11-7 was the kenpom projection.I've been on 12-6 the whole way. Sorry if that's not abundantly clear in that post, we were arguing back and forth about the kenpom projection and i didn't make myself clear.

Has anyone figured out why the scroll text on sportcenter has "Nail Biting Road Win" for the caption of our away game with Maryland?I just noticed it now so it must have run like that all night.
