Lot to be positive about. LOTS to improve on as well. A wins a win. Move forward and learn from a scare. Hopefully wake doesn't have a QB next week, because our whole offense is a work in progress. Not in panic mode yet.

Just got back from the game:1) My assessment on Glennon The guy zings the fucking ball. On top of that he's right on the money. A couple wr/qb timing errors that could've been big gains. (that's what actual playing time fixes right?)The OL didn't pick up those massively obvious CB blitzes in the first half (one of which led to a huge hit and the TD) Hell even RW would've lost the ball on that blind side shots to the back. Wisconsins difference is 1500lbs of OL and ours is about 1200lbsSeems to be if Glennon has 3 or 4 seconds of protection from his OL he's going to pick you apart and not make too many mistakes doing it. He just doesn't have legs RW had to create those 4 or 5 seconds so we'll need good blitz reads and a good run to open up the passing game.I for one am fine/glad we have a 'built for the NFL' QB under center here. He has the perfect schedule to get up to speed before he plays the big boys too. 2. The defense played awesome. They were dealing with a veteran QB and a team that has a lot of confidence and wins a lot of games every year. And they still ripped them to shreds. The secondary is looking brilliant. They were dialed most of the night.3. TJ Graham and the running game<34. Special teamsNice deep kickoffs = opposing teams will start 5 yards deeper this year compared to lastHigh hanging punts = we aren't going to see many punt returns this yearBut a lot of reps and practice are needed to clear up those obvious mistakes we made tonight by the froshmenz.Troll away NGGAAZZZZZZ
9/3/2011 11:10:29 PM
No one cares enough to troll you.
9/3/2011 11:11:33 PM
there's always that one guy that goes verbatim "just got back from the game" then gives a bunch of pointers as if no one else watched the game and he was reporting on it
9/3/2011 11:13:47 PM
I hate agreeing with pack_bryan.But I agree with pack_bryan.
9/3/2011 11:14:18 PM
our secondary was far from awesome. they threw for 295 yards on us.]
9/3/2011 11:20:32 PM
Glennon might sling it but boy does he stare down his target
9/3/2011 11:24:11 PM
with Mike Archer at the helm, that's awesome, lol
9/3/2011 11:24:57 PM
I'm still drunk, ignore my misspellings.
9/3/2011 11:28:02 PM
the "glennon is so good but we have no oline" argument is going to get old QUICK. We've never had an oline and won't magically develop one this season.
9/3/2011 11:28:16 PM
^ glad you cleared that one up.
9/3/2011 11:28:41 PM
9/3/2011 11:42:22 PM
That was not good. Don't know how you leave thinking otherwise.
9/3/2011 11:46:07 PM
hes slow to go through his reads (provided he ever gets past #1), slow to get rid of the ball when something isnt immediately open and incapable of eluding pressure in spite of having decent wheels for his size. hell of an arm, thohopefully his game speeds up as the competition does
9/3/2011 11:48:23 PM
he checked it down almost every play dude.]

9/3/2011 11:51:55 PM
yeah that's sweet when you play liberty and they turn it over 7 times. it's not so cool when you play florida state and they put it in the endzone 7 times. if you think that we can somehow build a gameplan around fumbling twice and still somehow having a +5 turnover margin every game, then let me be the first person to welcome you to watching football.if LIBERTY is putting up 300 on us, that's bad, no matter what our strategy is.[Edited on September 3, 2011 at 11:57 PM. 9/3/2011 11:56:09 PM
this game didn't blow me awayI have to say though, our entrance video was bad as hell and way better than I expected it would be
9/4/2011 12:11:52 AM
Agreed. Leaving today feeling positive is great if that helps you sleep tonite. As a realist and someone who understands college football there was very little positive to take from tonite. Its going to be a long year... Can we improve quickly in the areas we looked fundamentally flawed? I hope so but wow that is not what I expected to see.
9/4/2011 12:13:56 AM
Maybe Liberty is just a lot better than expected
9/4/2011 12:20:20 AM
you know now that i think about it, all of the players looked fine. we just weren't coached up for that game.the way we missed blitzes especially was very concerning. hopefully that is a product of a lack of tape availability.
9/4/2011 12:29:24 AM
9/4/2011 12:33:22 AM
You really think not being "coached up" for the season openerer is the way to put it? I fail to buy that.
9/4/2011 12:34:44 AM
You can't coach game day experience. our o-line got caught a little wide eyed when they couldn't just out muscle smaller (better technique) linemen. Tobias Palmer is faaaaaaaaaaast.
9/4/2011 12:37:53 AM
Jesus christ you have to be able to handle liberty holy fuck. Have some standards and be a realist.
9/4/2011 12:41:03 AM
^but just a few months ago west virginia beat liberty 33-20what does that make them
9/4/2011 12:45:04 AM
For a cupcake opener, liberty is a better team than anyone is giving them credit for. That said, we have a lot to work on. I'm very happy we went through this game in week 1. It will provide the team with a friendly wake-up punch in the cock. It will motivate. Way better experience to go through than just steamrolling over some nobody and walking out cocky. The team will be good, the foundation is there.
9/4/2011 12:45:21 AM
Bunch of stupid in the gameday thread...who woulda thought? A) Glennon played pretty well for his first college start god damn peopleB) Both our lines need work big timeC) Liberty was better than I expected, good 1-AA teamD) We won the damn game 43-21. Calm the fuck down. A W is a W in the first game.
9/4/2011 12:45:55 AM
^i think getting sweezy back will help the Dline a lot. He is our best player. And glennon will be as good as his oline allows him to be.
9/4/2011 12:49:17 AM
packboozie teach us master. show us the light. you are pretty much the only one here who is:
9/4/2011 12:50:33 AM
because the problem is people are equating the challenge to the result. They are all like "hey liberty is decent" blah blah blah. Step away from that. There were massive fundamental problems with our team today. Like completely missing blitz pick-up has nothing to do with your opponent. It could have been liberty, It could have been a high school team, it could have been FSU, having no idea who to block is a problem. We had problems tonight that I thought a more experienced, more well coached, more "TOB type team" would not have. If you look beyond numbers, and the opponent, there were shit that you came away from going damn, this will be a long year. Sorry, but tonight was a sign to me that it is going to be a long year. I'm glad we won, and I think there is a lot of potential, but I didn't expect to see what I saw tonight at this point in TOB tenure and it had nothing to do with stats, or completed passes, or turn-overs.

Liberty fields 2 teams. Twice the income.
9/4/2011 12:58:32 AM
Also something nobody has pointed out, you don't open the playbook in week 1 against a team you are going to beat. This is the most likely reason we ran small and simple plays.
9/4/2011 1:12:12 AM
9/4/2011 1:17:21 AM
^^ yeah thats it...
9/4/2011 1:21:52 AM
i guess i've come to expect a slow start from a TOB coached team. it's a good thing we stay away from high profile games to open up the season.

Some dude had to much fun tailgating, he puked in the North student section during 2rd Qrt

glennon got hit from his blindside a few times...didn't we move mattes to left tackle? so that's his first game as LT...hopefully better next game.

^^ agreed.whoever was guarding Glennon's blindside had the single worst performance of the night.
9/4/2011 9:07:01 AM
I didn't post last night after coming back from the game but there's a lot to talk about, and very little of it was positive. The defense played well in some regards. Yes, Liberty put up 300 yards, but the defense made the plays when it really mattered (interceptions and fumbles). However there's a lot to work on. Our offense was terrible. I'm not nearly as optimistic as I was before this game. Hopefully we grow and perform a lot better next weekend.
9/4/2011 9:17:00 AM
9/4/2011 9:18:20 AM
The defense was on the field twice as long as the offense. Regardless, I think our D still played better than the offense and the blame for the bad game falls on the offense and special teams. The D allowed one touchdown off of a fumble that put liberty on about the 20 yard line, followed by a 2 pt conversion. Liberty's other TD was a scoop and score fumble return because of a blind side sack on Glennon. Their other points came off of field goals, which resulted largely from good field position following huge kick off returns. Our special team's return stopping needs work. There were way too many kick offs that the kicker had to make the tackle (or was the next to last defender). Graham needs to work on catching the ball and running forward. Like always.I don't think we outplayed Liberty, we just out lasted their conditioning and depth when we started running them over with Washington and Underwood.
9/4/2011 9:34:02 AM
Can I just say that a the diving interception (who was that btw?) and the diving catch were both awesome to behold. It was moments like that which made me realize how much more athletic we were than them. It also frustrated me that we couldn't just use that to impose our will on them.
9/4/2011 9:36:30 AM
dj green w/ diving interception in 1st half
9/4/2011 9:57:50 AM
That was truly an amazing play. I haven't heard much from Green, but I know he was recruited as a safety. It showed on that play. Also, Amerson has all the makings of a star CB -- 6'3, fast, aggressive, great anticipation. He's got 1st round draft pick potential. And speaking of secondary, does anyone know what happened to Wolff? I lost my internet feed in the 3rd quarter and didn't see him go out with an injury (didn't even know about it til I read the Pack Pride game recap).
