^libraries is a huge step forward. i was wondering how the LL sound would translate with this level of production and am impressed. lots of different styles on each track. anyone catch the one guitar lick in "brittany's back" that has a bit of an r.e.m. "the one i love" vibe?
6/4/2010 7:26:04 PM
loving what i'm hearing.
6/4/2010 7:40:32 PM
yeah i think it's pretty great
6/4/2010 7:47:35 PM
this is highly excellent.
6/4/2010 8:07:41 PM
shit is really good
6/4/2010 9:13:09 PM
kinda disappointing that a third of it has already been releasedbut the music is great
6/4/2010 9:20:57 PM
Loving the debut LP by The Drums...several really, really good pop songs
6/5/2010 1:33:28 AM
^i'm diggin it. took them forever to finally put this out.
6/5/2010 10:28:30 AM
yeah...surprised they only included two songs from the "summertime!" ep; every song an that ep is great, and that's half an album right there. im glad they didn't, though, i'll take more new songs.
6/5/2010 10:49:37 AM
it's the best album I've heard in a long, long time.
6/5/2010 11:24:25 AM
no lala.com is killin' mei don't really go for illegally downloading albums i can easily obtain through purchasing, but that i just want to sampledoes anyone have any websites that stream stuff like lala did?... i know a lot of artists put free streaming up on their sites, etc.. but i was wondering if something existed a la lala (lol)hopefully apple won't be dickwads and just roll lala into itunes on the next update
6/5/2010 12:21:12 PM

^ouch. reviews of the reviews: not goodfwiw, i didn't think the love language review was poorly written necessarily, but definitely a little harsh and not really informative. i'm somewhere in between regarding libraries; i think it's good, but not great, and i think i liked the first one a little more. i'll have to listen to it a few more times, though.[Edited on June 6, 2010 at 12:20 PM. 6/6/2010 12:20:04 PM
^^ Just out of curiosity, anything in particular (or any other particular reviews) that you hated? I'm open to criticism.^ I like Libraries little better than the first one so far (I've only heard about half of it) just by virtue of the fact that it's recorded well.
6/6/2010 1:23:22 PM
That review site is awful.

6/6/2010 10:46:05 PM
I think the new one is better as a whole, but "Lalita" is still the best LL song. The second best is the first half of "Equinox," which was on the original version of the first album.
6/6/2010 10:54:56 PM
I'm not being obtuse...I just loved their first record, and the new one hasn't really grabbed me the same way. Just how I feel. A lot of people seem to be pointing to the difference in the production, but to me the poor recording quality of the S/T album didn't distract me. I don't say this to be obnoxious or pompous or anything, but I hear a lot of albums like that being made today, so I could hear it for the songs, and I thought the songs were really good on the first. I don't feel as though they're as good on the second. Not BAD, just not as good as the first. Again, I may change my mind after hearing the new one a few more times, but it's just my opinion at the moment. And, back to the production, lo-fi can work just as well as hi-fi if it fits the feel of the album, as others have pointed out. Lo-fi worked for the S/T Love Language. This is coming from a guy who constantly defends good bands against all that "their older stuff was better" hipster posturing.
6/7/2010 10:23:19 AM
My thing with LL and "lo-fi" is, and I think I've said this before, is that it sounds like they did an intentionally shitty job recording it. That's not what it sounds like when you do a home recording, even if you don't really know what you're doing. I'm all for noisiness and lo-fi recordings and whatever, but their first album just seems like a conscious effort to make it sound as bad as possible, and, to me, it detracts from otherwise great songs. It's the sort of thing where I wouldn't give a shit if I thought the music sucked anyway.
6/7/2010 11:14:58 AM
I get that, that makes sense. For me personally, though, it didn't detract from the great songs. It didn't distract me enough to bother me. I could see why it would, it just didn't for me.

Oh, I thought he was saying it was a special guest or something who isn't normally in the band
6/7/2010 3:57:32 PM
^ No, I think he's saying that because her shadow profile was the one left out on some of the promo materials when AF were leaking clues about the new release. Some people were freaking out, wondering if she wasn't with the band any longer, etc.

has anyone heard the new Deer Tick or Blitzen Trapper albums?
6/8/2010 9:59:51 AM
New Blitzen Trapper was disappointing after the Dylan & The Band heroism of Furr. It's not terrible, but it isn't real good, either. Furr was my personal favorite of 2008. Gonna see them this Thursday at Bonnaroo.
6/8/2010 10:44:04 AM
about to give it and the new Gaslight Anthem album a listen via NPR First Listen. will report back.
6/8/2010 10:48:38 AM
^^on sampling the Blitzen Trapper, i thought i would really like it... but then it hit me with sleepytime
6/8/2010 12:00:11 PM
6/8/2010 12:11:57 PM
yeah, i had high hopes after the first song, but it definitely gets kinda boring
6/8/2010 12:19:58 PM
I absolutely love the new Blitzen Trapper LP. Furr has a few better songs on it, but Destroyer of the Void works much better as a cohesive whole. And it's worlds better than Wild Mountain Nation.
6/8/2010 12:30:18 PM
i just got the new Tokyo Police Club "Champ" and Wild Nothing "Gemini" and digging both. i'm not far through the TPC yet, but tracks like Bambi give me hope that this could be their best...hope i'm not wrong cuz i'm seeing them this weekend. Wild Nothing album is great. i don't stay up on this topic enough but i hadn't seen anyone talk about these. anyone else listened yet?
6/8/2010 1:30:11 PM
Blitzen Trapper more like Blitzen Napper, amirite!?!?
