My issue is that GMail doesn't support the File As field. So I have about 100 contacts that are some variation of TWW (Raleigh) WTF (New Bern) or LOL (Jacksonville) where the acronyms are obviously business names and I have the particular location in parenthesis. Google Sync will end up doing some shit like Raleigh, TWW or Bern New, WTF

Dear Android, please keep a seat warm for me. I may be coming over as soon as you make a decent device with a hardware keyboard for sprint.Microsoft has failed me with WP7.[Edited on March 16, 2010 at 8:33 PM. Reason : .]

glad to know I'm not the only one who isn't orgasming over that shit. Windows mobile is falling in the shitter and I just don't see this windows phone 7 series helping it much especially with the competition.

Kind of a random question here but later this year the contract that I am a part of (a VZW family plan that I just pay my share for) will be up for renewal and new phones etc. Right now I have the LG Dare which has been a great non-smartphone. It is just a standard family talk + unlimited text plan and I individually added unlimited data and mobile email for $9.99 to just my line. However, the way I understand the changes that came about earlier this year, for the exact same plan we have now, it would cost me my portion of the plan + $29.99 to get the same features (since unlimited data is $29.99 with the $9.99 tier only covering some data usage). If that is the case, if I wanted to keep the unlimited data, I don't see any difference (besides the upfront hardware cost) in keeping the LG Dare (or getting a new "multimedia phone") versus picking up an android phone. Can someone confirm that I am looking at this correctly?I'm sure that is probably what they were going for with the new rate changes. Back when I got my Dare, it was a slightly cheaper option than a smartphone to have unlimited data for email and to surf the web etc. Now it seems like this next time we renew I might as well pick up an android phone.PS: I'm not complaining, I'd love to have one of these phones, just making sure that I was looking at the numbers the right way [Edited on March 17, 2010 at 4:57 PM. ^^God yes I want the supersonic. For some reason I thought it was mad far off though.^Yeah, I'm pretty sure if they're going to force that unlimited data package on you for 29.99 that you should get the phone of your choice. I don't even think that BIS is more expensive, though I haven't priced verizon services in forever.[Edited on March 17, 2010 at 5:26 PM. Reason : .]
3/17/2010 5:23:33 PM
Correct. The 9.99 plan is for only 25mb and its $29.99 for unlimited data on a 3g multimedia phone and smartphones so it should be a no brainer.
3/17/2010 5:23:58 PM
^thanks I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something I was missing because you're right, its a no-brainer to me with the new structuring.

so should I wait for the nexus one to hit verizon or just get a droid now?
3/18/2010 8:54:48 AM
Nexus One ain't shit. Get you that Droid. Amazon's got it for $25.00 on contract: http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-A855-Android-Verizon-Wireless/dp/B002UUTCKC/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1268917205&sr=8-9I mean, okay, the Nexus One might be a nice phone. But if you don't mind being under contract to Verizon, it ain't nicer than a $25.00 Droid.[Edited on March 18, 2010 at 9:00 AM. Reason : Truth.]

HTC Incredible should be at Verizon in a couple of weeks shouldn't it?
3/18/2010 10:17:23 AM
Droid > HTC Incredible > NexusOnePeople keep asking me is it worth waiting for the NexusOne, please no. No it's not worth it. Get a Droid, otherwise, if you like "waiting" for the next best phone, wait for Verizon's first 4G android phone. But who knows when that will be.
3/18/2010 10:30:26 AM
The Incredible will be out in 2 weeks. It's got a bigger, better screen than the Droid, better camera, SenseUI, and it's slimmer / lighter than the Droid. Just personal preference, but I don't like the feel of the Droids slider mechanism or it's flat, off-center keyboard. The Incredible is the better phone, but if you are going the cheap route or you NEED a physical keyboard, get a Droid.
3/18/2010 11:11:27 AM
I don't really see how it's going the CHEAP route. Yes it all comes down to personal preference. Personally I like having the option of a keyboard even if it isn't perfect. The 3.7" screen on the Droid is more than enough and even at 1GHz the snapdragon has been proven to be overrated and I don't see it being any smoother than an overclocked droid with a custom rom. The only real benefit I see is SenseUI but that is being ported over. The droid is definitely more than enough phone to hold me over til an LTE device gets released a year or two down the road.
3/18/2010 12:35:24 PM
^ I agree with all that but don't understand why they could not put the keyboard in the middle.
3/18/2010 12:36:21 PM
^^ I get it. You like your Droid and you wouldn't trade it for an Incredible. I'm sure a lot of Droid owners feel that way.But for an unbiased reviewer, the Incredible will probably turn out to be the higher-rated phone for the reasons listed, provided it doesn't suffer from all the buggy issues of the Nexus One.
3/18/2010 1:02:12 PM
anyone have a google voice invite?
3/18/2010 1:10:41 PM
The droid is verizon's baby. They didn't put all that money into marketing it for nothing and I don't see it getting knocked off anytime soon. Will there be devices with better specs? Sure. Will they noticeably out perform the Droid? Doubtful. If you don't currently have a droid, then by all means look at the Incredible and weigh the pros and cons. Any android phone will be a great choice but don't just look at the specs and orgasm though.
3/18/2010 1:16:16 PM
i have 3 google voice invites, PM me your email

I'll take the N1's faster processor, more RAM, sexier design and AMOLED screen over the Droid any day of the week. Take into consideration what the cyanogen mod can do for performance and battery life and the decision is even easier. Overclocked droids can not match it.Unless you are running A2SD the increased RAM is a big plus for the N1 until google lets apps be on the SD.This is all a moot point though because the HTC Supersonic is going to be the next bad ass on the block. The phones rumored specs make me drool.

So apparently the Incredible is supposed to come out in 2 weeks. I was original banking on the Nexus One, but the Incredible seems much more appealing. Anyone else waiting for the Incredible?

Okay… I just got a Droid (yesterday) to replace the terrible Storms we had at work. And have some questions…Can the mail client really not process .ics files from GroupWise? Is there a good free app that can do this? And i charged my phone to 100% yesterday, and when I woke up this morning, it was completely dead. The phone seemed to be working fine otherwise. I’m assuming this is a hardware problem, and I’ll need a new phone, right? And is there a way to increase the system font size? And is there a way to wake up the phone without having to press the lock button (then unlock), or sliding out the keyboard? And if I do need to get a new phone, is there an easy way to backup the settings/apps/etc like the BB desktop app or iTunes? My initial impression of the phone so far though is that it is mostly better than the Storm, but not as good as an iPhone.[Edited on March 20, 2010 at 12:57 PM. Ouch, didnt realize the battery usage on smart phones was so short. i guess they have the capability to do a lot more stuff. Oh well, it will still be worth it. Just disappointing to hear because my LG Dare is 1.5 years old and still gets 4-5 days on a single charge even surfing the net and checking my email all the time.
3/20/2010 3:41:46 PM
yeah i'm lucky to get a day out of the ol iphoneand the old one with the 1.5 year old battery was usually dead by 5pm
3/20/2010 3:52:03 PM
yeah, you're definitely not going to get that far with a smartphone as it is constantly syncing data plus you'll find yourself using it a lot more. I throw mine on the charger every night and haven't had a problem making it through the normal day. Also found out the hard way that your phone doesn't really charge when you have it plugged in and are using navigation.
3/20/2010 3:55:06 PM
The storm would go two days before charges but I only used the phone, email, and messaging because the browser and apps were so terrible.
3/20/2010 5:27:34 PM
yeah, i had the Storm before going Droid. That failberry or any other one for that matter doesn't even come close.
3/20/2010 5:40:11 PM
Just get a charging cradle and put the droid in there every night when you go to bed. I usually have at least 50% left at the end of a day.

I’m thinking leaving the wifi on is what killed it, it seems to be running about average today. They really need to have a better way to turn the wifi and GPS on/off without digging through all the menus, if they are such battery killers. And the marketplace needs to do a better job of only showing apps that can work with your phone… it seems like every other app says “only tested with phone x,” that’s not my phone. It makes me feel like Apple has the right philosophy about the app store…Oh, how exactly does the multitasking work? On the BB, i had to quit each app whenever i left it, or it’d stay running in the background. There doesn’t seem to be a way to close the browser for instance, and it’s not clear to me when an app is quit, or if its still running. Is there a way to actually close an app, or is this not really neccesary on the Droid?[Edited on March 20, 2010 at 9:03 PM. Reason : ]
3/20/2010 9:02:38 PM
long press on the home screen, choose widget and then power control. It'll let you toggle Wifi, GPS, Sync, and screen brightness. The android OS does a pretty good job managing running apps and closing them when resources are needed. Usually hitting the back button will close the app. If you really want to close the stock browser, you can hit the menu button, Windows, hit the X beside each open window and then hit the back button to exit rather than hitting it a billion times to back all the way out otherwise. Generally you should be ok just hitting the home button and leave it running. The 3rd party dolphin browser will give you an exit option if you hold the back button. Also holding the home button will list the 6 most recently used apps to switch to.

Advanced Task Killer.I just kill a shitton of apps everytime I'm done with something.
