i really like natty greene's food, too, though

I don't understand why there isn't a flying saucer in Charleston. We have very few bars with an extensive selection of good draft beers. And I don't think there is a bigger drinking population per capita anywhere in the South.

It makes me

The food is nothing...its Applebee's with Beer

I'd imagine a city Charleston's size would have at least one place with a comparable selection

there has to be. a buddy of mine who loves craft beer went to law school down there and somehow survived. I'll have to ask him about it.

There are several places with maybe 20 beers on tap at the most, and one of those constantly has 5-10 of those beers out. The draft beer selection down here is pretty poor considering the amount of alcohol consumed.

Meant to add:

"a buddy of mine who loves craft beer went to law school down there and somehow survived."

There is good draft beer down here...just not in large quantities and with the selection you'll find at a Flying Saucer.

if aea can make it in here, she can tell you where her rehearsal dinner was, cause they had a pretty decent beer selection (again, not huge, but better than a normal chain)

and then you also have the Charleston Beer Exchange which i've heard is a pretty good craft beer store. not bar, but you can take home fresh growlers from kegs on tap.

^I love CBX. New Beer Tuesdays!

Only unfortunate thing about their Growlers is that South Carolina law prohibits you from tasting anything they have on tap. Not too bad because I usually love anything I put in my Growler from there...but every now and then I have a tough time deciding between two beers and a little taste would help out immensely in the decision making process.

I think i'm suffering from 2muchsauceritis.

Lately they have been out of 75% of the beer we have tried to order, the waitresses have been kinda shitty, and add to that i have never been a fan of the food.

I think i'm favoring Raleigh Times more these days.

Oh yeah and why have they never picked up a second kiosk? The line was always 7 ppl or more deep at 7pm. I didn't even bother to get my slips. A shitty old desktop can run IE6, it would not cost much.

Travis was talking about that last time I saw him. About having a second kiosk to replace the ATM...

^^Are you complaining about your service last Friday? B/c while I didn't think service was that bad our waitress apologized every time she came over saying they were understaffed that night for whatever reason.

And two of the beers I asked for were also out. Two fresh Oktoberfest beers in bottled form. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't get a huge shipment.

[Edited on October 5, 2010 at 1:31 PM. Reason : happens with low volume beers]

raleigh times has harvest time...saucer does not

Applebee's must have vastly improved their food then. Granted, I've only had the pretzel sausage thing and the artichoke dip at the Saucer, but those are well above what I've experienced at Applebee's.

ok don't get me wrong i love saucer and all and the chicken pilly i had this weekend was alright

but the "pretzel sausage thing" is like a microwave pretzel with tiny slices of cheese added on top before it is put in the microwave with maybe 3 little tiny slices of brat on it

raleigh times gaucomole dip and nachos blow anything at saucer away

woody, I can not let you bad mouth the bratzel... you might have had one of the 1 in 200 bad ones they pushed through, but that thing is amazing. The only pretzel dish that even holds a candle to it is the crabdip covered pretzel at the big easy

Anyway, my girlfriend is about to turn 21, and I realized that neither us nor any of my friends have ever been to the Flying Saucer, so I'm thinking about going.

Can anyone explain this plate stuff? It's all I ever see you guys talk about in this thread.

You can sign up for their UFO club for like $15 and after you've tried 200 different beers you get a plate on the wall with your name and a quote, plus like a $100 bar tab and some other stuff. The rewards get better with each successive plate you get.
