8/4/2010 5:08:12 PM
prog is something I feel like I should like, I enjoy complex compositions, but I just can't really get into it what is something (in the music/literature/film area) that you feel like you should like but can't quite get into
8/4/2010 5:11:35 PM

8/4/2010 5:52:36 PM
I'm listening to Pacer, so what's your favorite side project (or, I guess, side project of a side project)I feel like this question has probably been asked in 21 pages
8/4/2010 5:56:14 PM
if you had to reincarnate as a dust mite living in an ac/dc deep cutwhich song would you want it to be
8/4/2010 5:59:48 PM
if you had to live on a desert island, and the things/people you encountered on the island were associated with the things in a bob dylan non-album song, what dylan song would it be?(ex: if you picked "desolation row," you would meet all the famous people/characters mentioned in the song "desolation row," such as cain and abel, the hunchback of notre dame, and bette davis. but you can't pick "desolation row," because it was on an album)
8/4/2010 6:13:19 PM
i will choose rust never sleepsthe sanitizer gets trashed, because it's not trash sanitizeryou could argue that pavement is a side project, but i, too, love that amps recorddust mite me would probably hang out in "can i sit next to you girl?""can you please crawl out your window?"

8/4/2010 11:27:14 PM
i don't think it's a great album, but it's funit's obvious that they enjoyed doing it, and it comes through in the sound, which is always pretty cool
8/4/2010 11:29:18 PM
yeah one of my friends thinks it sucks, and i enjoy it from time to time, so i was just making sure i'm not crazy. i think pearl jam ended up with the best 2 songs from those recording sessions though.

8/5/2010 3:39:11 AM
for some reason, okkervil river jumps into my headnot nearly as dramatic or epic, but damn good shit with interesting instrumentation, beautiful vocals, and songs that meandermy friend calls AF "musket rock" and throws them in with neutral milk hotel and shit because of anachronisms in arrangements, but i think that's sillyin other words, i really like okkervil river
8/5/2010 3:44:51 AM

8/5/2010 4:12:41 AM
to be fair, though, that's in an area of expertise for mei'm also especially good at identifying songs from clips less than two seconds in lengthvery often when the clip doesn't even contain music, because i'm such a huge goddamn nerd that i know what the interstitial noise is on hundreds of recordsbut i bombed out on the round where you had to identify shots by their ingredientswinning team was 44/60, we were second with 41/60*sigh* ]

What kind of music did your parents listen to with you when you were a kid? And did you find yourself gravitating towards or veering away from that kind of music as you got older?
8/5/2010 3:50:37 PM
Also, DO U LIKE THE NU THE ARCADE FIRE CD "THE SUB HERBS" VB
8/5/2010 3:55:10 PM
we listened to some '70s country, and i listened to normal garbage FM radio until i was about 11but my parents were never big music folks
8/5/2010 4:12:59 PM
Mine weren't either. But I sometimes wonder if all the stuff my dad and I listened to when I was a kid (typical old white guy stuff like CCR, The Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkel) were all important building blocks for most of what I like now (even though I didn't like listening to that stuff when I was a little kid and rebelled against it when I was a teen).
8/5/2010 4:21:44 PM
my mom played a lot of showtunes while she was cleaning the house, which might explain my love for heavy orchestrationi go to dinner with my parents a lot, and my dad always makes positive comments if i'm listening to something like sharon jones or jr. walker, but we never talked about that kind of stuff when i was little, so that just might be the universal appeal of good soul music
