There were 48 fouls called! 48! There's only 40 minutes in a game! Then think about when they were called. When we went on our run in the first half, they were calling little ticky tack fouls on us and Duke withstood the storm at the free throw line. Not to mention it killed our momentum. Then when Duke makes their run at the beginning of the second half, nothing is called and Duke rides that momentum onwards. I mean, not even a blatant kick ball was called!!!! With the ref staring at it!!!!!!

But it's not the refs' fault only. Duke made ALL of their shots in the 2nd half. So put those two together and it should have been even worse. The only thing I know is Duke will not beat a good team with fast athletic guards and any kind of post presence come tournament time.

No, it wasnt 1 call that lost us the game, although the kick was a huge momentum swinger.




It was the 6 back to back to back to back to back to back calls against us, maybe 1 of which was an actual foul, maybe, in the first half after we took that big lead. They cut the lead, keep making bullshit calls, we stay composed, build on the lead again.


But after 15 minutes of horrible officiating, we fucking gave up. Thats why we lost the game, but I dont blame our guys tonight. That was grade A bullshit if I've ever seen it. I called it before halftime that the refs had decided the game, because they will not allow us to stay in the game. They didnt, so we lost.

I will NEVER pull for the heels as long as I have breath. Yes, I agree with the sentiment that the heels beat us because they are damn good. The Devils won with 8 people on the court at one time, some nifty soccer moves, and some flops.

I've just got to say one thing. You guys that are still in Raleigh better show up when we get Duke at home. The team showed they could hang with them up until the refs decided to become the 6th, 7th, and 8th men on the floor for Duke. I could tell the guys were getting frustrated with how things were going and any momentum we had just died. Give credit to Duke for making shots in the second half though. It seemed like they couldn't miss from 3 pt range in the second half. I think we can beat them in the RBC Center if the crowd brings their A-game. The refs better not call it like that for the game in Raleigh, b/c the State crowd could possibly riot.

God damn....you people and that d00k fan on PP looking at the number of free throws shot as an indication of a "fair" game.


You do realize, that we pound the ball inside, which usually produces a lot of fouls.

We also dont play pressure D. We try to get in position and we get fucked because we cant pressure the ball. We also don't actually foul that much because of this.

Now think that d00k is an outside shooting team. Usually leads to fewer free throw attempts.

D00k also plays pressure D so they're going to get a few more calls against them in a well officiated game.


The result should be us shooting a lot more free throws than them, but it would even out w/out officiating because of their 3 point threat. Now let some ass loving bad officials get in there and try to "even things up a bit" and we have no shot.

This is the same shit that happened at the RBC center last year when we played them. The foul count was literally like 7-1 with d00k having 7. We were clearly not playing good hard D because we were LOSING. Next thing you know, state goes to the line for 1-1 at like the 12 minute mark and WOULDNT YOU FUCKING KNOW IT, THE REFFS EVEN UP THE FOUL COUNT IN LIKE 5 MINUTES. Lead to a blowout. Just like tonight, I'm not saying that its the reason we lost the game, but I'd much rather lose by 5-10 because we lost to a better team than lose by 20 because the refs fucking suck. /rant.

Please, mkcarter was way off.

He obviously meant that we'd stay within like 6 in the first fifteen minutes.

He did not predict we'd be up by 9 at the half.

The only reason why I'm arguing this is because saying that we're gonna keep it close but then lose by 20 is not a fantastic prediction. That's how we lose almost all these games against big opponents. And this time was different.

yeah...thats what I was getting at with their "pressure D". Good officials call that garbage. Thats why they SHOULD have a few more fouls every game, but its good strategy to play hard D for 40 minutes because it benefits you more in the end, even with a few more fouls being called. Duke is allowed to do it all game against most teams though and not get called AT ALL for it. Thats the problem, thats why they're my new most hated team.

also, it's disappointing to lose after playing a first half like that, but everybody knows this year we're only good for about 20 minutes of basketball against decent teams. It'll probably change. I think we've made some really decent improvements so far, and regardless of why you think Duke won that game, enough with the bitching. Seriously.

I wanna give Javi some daps for sticking it out when MJ was struggling. I'm looking forward to both of them developing...

We still have a solid month of basketball. Don't count us out just yet!

This has been a hell of a tough 6 game stretch to start off the conference. 4 games on the road, 3 of those were big losses at tough venues and another one we pulled out at the end. Then a win over a ranked Miami team and a disappointing loss to GT both at home. We finally come home for two games that we really need to win. Wake is looking a little better, while VT is looking alright as well. Bring the noise Sunday, and hope we can put together 2 halves and play like we did in the first half tonight.

Anyone wanna start a fight with Costner so that he shows that fire again??
