The thing you have to understand is that Staal will never be an Ovechkin or Crosby type of player. Hopefully he'll finish filling out and become a Joe Thornton type, good for a big faceoff win, a hit in the corner, and a ridiculously beautiful pass on the power play. He's much more likely to round into a 20-80-100 type of guy than he is a 45-55-100 guy, but that's been the idea all along. He didn't look great tonight, but he did start throwing his body around when he couldn't get space, and that's what he's going to have to do every night from now on.

I hate to say this, but our best looking players tonight were Letowski and Tanabe.

^staal is a playmaker, not a finisher. If you need more proof of that, 1) read scouting reports from when he was in juniors. and 2)watch him in the shootout.

I agree with the shaw, but I'd put Staal closer to a 30-70-100 player as he's good for the garbage goal on the PP in addition to some top notch passing.

the guy has 15G and 12A, your typical player will have 1.5x more assists, moreso if he's a "playmaker" a la Joe Thornton...
