"insider info" this movie is tracking stronger and having better advanced sales than current record holder Spiderman 3. Possible record breaking weekend!

bout time something might knock that shitty movie off its pedestal

i think it showed on like 6 or 7 screens at the theater in greenville i work at.

i forgot christian bale was british, that is really weird, i don't know if i've seen any movie with him using a british accent.

saw it at midnight and it was AWESOME. Best movie i've seen in a long time.. had me on the edge of my seat. We waited so long at the beginning to make sure we got decent seats that I went through two large drinks. I had to pee soo bad 2/3 the way through but I could not leave because it was too good. I about exploded afterwards.

If you're on the edge, go see it. If nothing else everyone can appreciate the job heath ledger does.. he really makes the movie, and you would never guess he was playing the character if you didn't know it was him

Was an awesome movie. Felt the first 3/4 of the movie was A+++. The last 1/4 seemed to change pace, besides waiting until about the very end to get to a resolution. Was still enjoyable, but not as good as the first 3/4

A++++++ crowd and surroundings at Mission Valley

I really see no reason to quit going to midnight showings.

how tired I am now < how great it is to see it hyped as shit with a crowd that digs it

ALSO very disappointed at the apparent lack of recognition/interest in the awesome watchmen trailer

good.
stylized, but source-appropriate

I thought, when it leaked on YouTube yesterday (already removed), that Dr. Manhattan looked awful, but he looked great on the big screen

scenes that made it into the trailer:
- Veidt pwnage of assassains in his mansion
- Rorschach flame-thrower-zippo
- nite owl prison riot kick
- comedian thrown from window
- Manhattan and Silk Spectre on Mars
- Rorschach slams Moloch against a wall
- Comedian on owlship looking at angry crowds
- owlship emerging from the river
- comedian and manhattan in vietnam

etc etc etc

looks like a Snyder movie, but looks like WATCHMEN to me.
is there a thread for this? now that there are visuals, the discussion can steamroll ahead

statefan, are you the kind of reader who avoids spoilers at all costs?

if not, http://www.arschkrebs.de/watchmen/ annotations are really cool, cause Watchmen is pretty dense and something like that can point out cool things you might miss

but if you dont want shit spoiled, its worth re-reading with annotations anyway

Anytime a movie opens on Thursday it doesn't count towards the weekend as far as the "record books" are concerned.

Spidey 3 made something like 150 mil Fri-Sun and Pirates made like 132 mil Fri-Sun

Anytime a movie opens what seems like a day early, it's because the film studios suspect that the word of mouth business it will generate for the weekend (or repeat customers) will be greater than the admission they surrendered the day before

... if that makes sense

anyways, The Dark Knight has possibilities.... I'm just gonna throw this out there 155 million. My range is 145-160 million. I don't see it making much less, or more than that. But 155 sounds like a solid number.

That's my opinion. It will just beat out Spiderman 3

Thank you higher ticket prices

Ohh, yeah, forgot to add, I also predict that The Dark Knight will destroy the previous midnight record (one of the star wars movies, 16 mil) by posting at least 20 million. 23million I'm hoping. Giving it a healthy start and lots of positive word of mouth to reach my 155 million weekend guess/hopes

Everyone go see this movie!...TWICE!

how big of a difference is seeing the movie in the IMAX vs. seeing it in the theater?

I told my little brother I'd wait to see the movie with him when he gets here in two weeks

But I can't wait

I'm thinking about seeing it in the theater tonight and in the IMAX when he gets here

soooooo i went on my lunch hour and bought tickets for my husband and i - we're going to the 8:10p showing at cary crossroads. all the good reviews i'm reading are making me super excited to see it. i'm not a big fan of comic book movies and i never have been - but this movie has gotten so much hype that i just have to see it

^it is insane, you don't even have to know what a comic book is to appreciate this movie.

you will need to go early to be sure you can get a decent seat though.

i want to see it again

so i'm totally going to be somewhat of a downer here compared to everyone else...or at least present a more in depth criticism/analysis:

i thought they gave each character too much equal attention to create a story as good as Batman Begins. I liked Batman Begins as its mostly the story about Batman and focuses exclusively on Bruce becoming Batman and goes into his whole mission for saving Gotham.

With TDK, you're thrown right into the action and the story of the movie is somewhat hidden in the background until the end. My biggest complaint would be that this isn't a story about Batman fighting to save Gotham City, nor even a story about Batman fighting the Joker...its more of a story about 5 characters in Gotham and how they all interact and react to each other. Also, the movie seemed very fast paced...I'm not saying it was a problem and I couldn't keep up, it would just go to one event to the next, to the next, to the next without much transition.

Now do I think that's bad? Not really...it just wasn't what I was expecting. I was hoping for a little bit more of a perspective from the Bruce/Batman point of view and was a bit unimpressed with the new temporary "Batcave". I thought the Joker was great in every single way except for the part where he tried to justify his nihilistic and anarchist tendencies to Dent. Did I enjoy the movie? Absolutely. Was Heath Ledger amazing? No...he was fucking awesome! Did I feel a bit unfulfilled by the end of it? Yes, but I don't think it's because of any overhyped expectations.

Overall I think this movie had great characters and the characters, led by Ledger and Bale, were greater than the story. And I'm really glad they used a lot of old fashioned stuntwork instead of relying on a lot of CGI--though I thought the whole sonar concept was little out there...

Lastly, I think the movie ended too seriously...too seriously for what had been happening for the entire length of the movie. The movie ended and I could only think "Why So Serious?"

ok...feel free to flame away...

So...on a scale of 1-10 of the clown creepiness factor of The Joker's crew...NOT The Joker b/c I've seen the makeup on Heath Ledger. I think I'm associating Ledger's The Joker as just one entity of The Joker instead of a separate clown. The Joker doesn't freak me out, just like Ronald McDonald and Krusty don't scare me.

So...Where would you place his crew? 1 being Ronald McDonald and 10 being Killjoy

Haven't seen it yet, waiting for IMAX to not be sold out, prolly go next week. Pretty stoked about it, especially after reading the rave reviews here. From what I've read, Ledger and Bale did great but one character I hadn't heard anything about yet was whatever the chick's name is. I'm assuming it was a pretty big upgrade going from Katie Holmes to Maggie Gyllenhaal, since I thought KH was pretty bad in Batman Begins. Any thoughts, or was that character not that big a part in TDK?

Pretty much the most necessary recasting ever. Holmes would have seriously ruined the movie.

well i don't normally do this, but i kinda agree with CharlieEFH on this one.

as a whole i thought it was pretty damn good, but not as good as i was hoping for/expecting.

ledger's joker was fucking incredible, better than nicholson, and it makes me laugh thinking back to all the people that were bitching when it was revealed that ledger got the part.

i can't imagine it not breaking records, i saw it at the midnight in asheville and there where like 8 auditoriums all sold out.
