ha, if only he had been at the carolina game. That atmosphere would have surely helped.

Every verbal is a soft verbal.

J.T. Floyd a DB out of Greenville, SC that is listed as a soft verbal to Tennessee, was here for an official visit this weekend. He said his visit was a "10". WRAL article on new fullback commit Colby Jackson. Also mentions OL visits from JUCO player Andrew Mitchell and Nick Becton.http://www.wral.com/sports/story/2039521/Recruiting: Wolfpack Picks Up Georgia FB ProspectNCAA Football (Generic)By Sammy BattenPosted: Nov. 13, 2007Colby Jackson is one of those athletes with a rare combination of strength and speed.Need proof?Well, consider that the senior at Trinity Christian High School in Dublin , Ga. , is a state champion in the 400-meter dash, is a two-time defending state champion wrestler and also competes in the shot put. Those skills, plus the ones Jackson has exhibited the last two years on Trinity Christian’s football squad, are the reasons N.C. State joined the recruiting race for the 6-foot-2, 225-pound senior earlier this year. The race ended Sunday when Jackson committed to Wolfpack linebacker coach Andy McCollum. Jackson chose N.C. State over offers from Miami and Georgia Southern. He becomes the 14th member of the Wolfpack’s recruiting Class of 2008.Price said Jackson reached his decision soon after watching the Wolfpack upset Virginia 29-24 on Oct. 27 in Raleigh .“He made his official visit the weekend they beat Virginia , which was great for N.C. State ,’’ Price said. “He really liked Coach McCollum, who recruited him, and I think he really believes in Coach [Tom] O’Brien and feels like N.C. State will be a great program.’’Jackson enrolled at Trinity Christian Academy as a seventh grader, according to Price. He followed in the footsteps of his stepbrother, Nick Thompson, who starred at tailback for the school in 2002 and 2003.Although he played for the varsity as a ninth grader, Jackson didn’t begin to see significant playing time until his junior year.“In the 10th grade he played a little bit and we started to see him develop physically,’’ Price said. “By the time he was a junior, we knew he was pretty special.’’Jackson is a starter at tailback and linebacker this year for a Trinity Christian squad that completed the regular season with a 9-1 record. The team will meet Brentwood School in the opening round of the state AA independent league playoffs Friday.Jackson ’s contribution to that success has been immense. He has rushed for 2,356 yards and scored 38 touchdowns this season, including a 317-yard single-game performance in one game.Defensively, Jackson has made more than 80 tackles.Price said even though Jackson is a gifted athlete, he’s also worked hard to perfect his talent.“I think the best thing about him is his intensity and work ethic,’’ Jackson said. “He’s just very dedicated in all aspects of training as far as nutrition and eating what he’s supposed to and lifting what he’s supposed to.“He’s been a joy to work with. He’s so big and fast, we knew he’d have this opportunity.’’

i've really like some of the things that manning has said about his commitment to us. glennon as well.

^^yeah, i got the same feeling about glennon. The picture from a pack pride "teaser" last week showed glennon during or just after one of his high school games. He was in his uniform, helmet off, smiling throwing up the Wolfpack hand signal. I dug it.and in case that doesn't work...http://media.scout.com/Media/Image/47/478939.jpg[Edited on November 14, 2007 at 10:05 PM. Reason : ^ and pic]

so according to that article (several ^'s up there) colby jackson is a "FB prospect" but happens to also play LB and "committed to our LB coach"... which position will he likely play for us?
11/14/2007 10:10:58 PM
FB
11/14/2007 10:12:04 PM
the fact that he committed to the LB coach doesnt mean anything. Different staff members are in charge of different areas to recruit. This kid looks like a running back to me...good pick up.
11/14/2007 10:15:36 PM
Andy McCollum this guy I believe has the Georgia contacts and is the one that recruited Roy Mangram and Zach Allen. I believe he is also recruiting A.J. McCray as well. So maybe it's just b/c he is the one with the Georgia contacts.

Thanks, that's awesome. I really hope Manning and Barnes can come in and make an immediate impact. I know it might be harder for Barnes in the first year since we have a loaded backfield, but it'd be great if we could use him in an unconventional way at RB. The main thing I'd like to see him do is get in at KR and PR, that way we can use his speed to perhaps get good field position. It seems like so many ACC games are a battle of field position since the offenses right now aren't explosive. This may be due to most of the defenses in the league being way ahead of the offenses.[Edited on November 14, 2007 at 10:33 PM. Reason : ]

some people are saying he's a better safety than he is runningback. who knows where he'll end up.
11/14/2007 10:36:33 PM
maybe he can be a guy like Brian Leonard was for Rutgers
11/14/2007 10:41:42 PM
fwiw about manning, scout (packpride's network) has him writing a weekly journal about his season and recruitment. and in every one of them he talks about how excited he is to be coming here, who he's friends with on the team already and how he's already talking smack to the UNC fans from his hometown.he also mentioned recently that the other schools that were still in contact with him seem to have given up. ALSO, that if things work out there's a slight chance he'll be on campus in the spring semester.so i would say he's definitely more than a "soft" verbal
11/14/2007 10:45:56 PM
w00t! especially the part about him talking smack to the Carolina fans in his hometown. he's already living the rivalry and he hasn't even played in it yet.
11/14/2007 10:48:21 PM
^i liked it when manning said him and "his boy" earl wolff were up in the stands covering their eyes that last drive cuz they couldn't watch, haha. He knows how it is already
11/14/2007 10:57:54 PM
word is manning got hurt (knee) last night in a playoff loss to East Burke...hopefully it's not too serious

12/3/2007 7:49:00 PM
Hey now just b/c he's from Miami and was recruited by Da U, doesn't mean he's a thug. Javi isn't thug and went to the same school. John Dunlap is from the Miami area and is a fine representative of our university. TOB is all about character and doesn't take "characters" (unless they are both ultra talented and can be controlled). So I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being a fine representative and good player for us.I know you're joking, but who knows he might be reading these boards as we speak. supposedly the staff just saw this kid a month ago, offered him 2 weeks ago and had him as the #1 CB on their board. Obviously, they liked this kid
12/4/2007 1:10:42 AM
grant seems like a good pick up. we have some good talent brewing in the secondary now. i think dominique ellis will end up bein a stud if he can ever make it to campus.
12/4/2007 9:25:01 AM
Is Ellis a no-go for January enroll? I thought he was coming along with Maddux for spring practice.
12/4/2007 10:20:19 AM
It looks like Ellis will not enroll early, but I haven't heard confirmation of that yet.Deion Walker still continues to mention state, though he will not take an OV to Raleigh. He has been on a shitload of unofficial visits though, and the longer he doesn't commit somewhere else, the more I start to think that we may pull an upset with him.
12/4/2007 12:49:11 PM
We currently have 17 commits (UNC has 6 on Scout and 7 on Rivals fwiw)Commitment list:Player - Position - Rivals/Scout * rankingsZach Allen - OL - 2/2Brandon Barnes - ATH - 4/4 (was a 5* on Rivals at the beginning) William Beasley - LB - 2/3Mario Carter - TE - 2/3 (i thought Rivals originally had him as a 3* before his injury)Elton Ford - LB - 2/2Mike Glennon - QB - 4/4T.J. 12/4/2007 7:06:06 PM
I also trust our staff's evaluation of the 2 and 3 star prospect. TOB and company built BC with an eye for talent in that level of prospect.
12/4/2007 8:21:42 PM
^ I agree but I also believe that the star system that is in place just gives fans another reason to worry or to brag. In the end most of it is coaching and the commitment of the kid to working hard. Matt Ryan was a ***, Jacob Hester was a **, and Mike Hart was a *** so I really have a hard time believing that stars mean everything. Just look at Notre Dame and all of the major prospects that they have. Another good example of getting the most out of your players is what Tommy Tuberville has done at Auburn. Let UNC go out and get all these star recruits that are just there for themselves and lets take the kids that want to beat their ass just like Sheridan did to Brown's kids.
12/4/2007 11:24:44 PM
I agree that stars don't mean everything and are often times relied on too much but if you'll go back and look at past top 100 rankings, their are a lot of familiar names on those lists. But I do think people put too much faith and emphasis on the star system .
12/5/2007 2:22:48 AM
where else they have offers from is much more telling than stars.
12/5/2007 2:37:09 AM
Most of Chuck's best players weren't highly touted...as a matter of fact, I'd be willing to bet about half of them had no other D1 scholarships other than State. As a general rule, offers are more important than stars. That said, most of the 'offers' you see listed for a player on Packpride and Rivals aren't actually committable offers.
