wilson betemit is now on my fantasy team, and I moved rolen and a slowly decomposing jake peavy for chipper.

now i've offered ryan howard for andruw.

it's going to be 100% worth living or dying in fantasy as the braves go.

^ We have guys in my leagues that load up on Cubs and Red Sox players once their fantasy teams start to suck it up. If you're still in the race in your league, I would have held off on Chipper until he's back from his injury and not sold so low on Peavy. Peavy could still turn it around in the next couple of months.

LaRoche is absolutely on fire again. I swear this guy gets 90% of his stats with his two 2-week hot streaks each year. The rest of the year, he is a .220, 4 HRs, 33 RBI type guy.

this was updated today on ESPN's MLB Rumors

Relief in sight for Braves?
Jul 25 - As the Padres continue their search for a third baseman, the possibility that they may ship reliever Scott Linebrink to the Braves for Wilson Betemit remains alive.

Jayson Stark says the chances of the Padres acquiring Betemit is far more likely than the Astros' Morgan Ensberg landing in San Diego.

"I'm still looking at third base," Padres GM Kevin Towers told the San Diego Union-Tribune. "But it has to be somebody you think is a significant upgrade."

I know we need relief really bad but i hope we get rid of Giles(i know we cant now because he's on the DL) and keep Betemit.. Giles has been horrible as a leadoff hitter

^ I used to call him Van Dyke on purpose.

As for the Betemit chatter, I am really surprised that Schuerholtz is going to trade him. I know we could use a good setup man and Linebrink is only 29 so he could be the closer for the next few years, but Betemit has star potential written all over him. Shit he was the Braves top minor league player just 4 years ago or whatever. He is still only 25. I really don't want the Braves to start sacrificing the future for a chance at the wild card.

The Wickman trade made sense because the guy they gave up was useless anyway. We need to keep Wilson.

Nah, that wouldn't be as embarassing. I mean really, why would you stick a butter knife down your throat? That's embarassing. You guys are lucky you don't have to face John Maine. You wouldn't score a run.

The Mets need to sweep this series to put the uppity Braves fans back in their place. In case you haven't heard the 2006 NL East race was over in April. Don't worry about getting back in to it. The wild card teams suck though so you should be good to go.

shut him up real quick, didn't it.

He's still scared. Because he knows the Mets always choke. The race is essentially over... but you never know. The Mets are like the democrats. For all intents and purposes, they should win. But somehow, they manage to fuck up so bad that they end up getting pretty embarassed.

Seeing that Pedro is starting on Friday, I hope LaRoche rockets a fucking ball back off his damn hip and it ends his season and the Mets chances at a title. Seeing that Glavine has been pitching like a Royals starter and that they are relying on basically rookies and Trachsel to carry them, the permanent loss of Pedro would wreck them.

Thanks, I will as long as when the Mets continue losing 2 of 3 to teams like the Cubs they have a double digit lead over the Squaws still.

^^ God, if that weak crap shut me up I should be embarassed. Sorry for not responding in a timely manner.

Fuck the Braves always suck ass against the Marlins. Chipper not playing today was not a good sign either. I sure hope he'll be able to go against the Mess this weekend.

Braves trade Wilson Betemit to Los Angeles for Willy Aybar and Danys Baez. Gotta like the Braves fixin that bullpen even though Chipper won't stay healthy.

that's the only link i've found

not a bad trade, i don't know much about aybar but i like baez -- we've been going after him for a while now

i hate to see betemit go and i'm not sure this is the best trade for him, but i guess it was inevitable

^^ Zito is going to be in New York next year. There is pretty much no way around that. He is going to be either a Yankee if they can afford it (which they may not be able to) or more then likely a Met (since Trachsel, Zambrano, and likely Glavine all come off the payroll)...

unless we do something major in the offseason (which is very unlikely these days) the only highlight of next year may be watching glavine win #300 in a braves uniform

I really, really hope the Braves can bring Glavine back. I also hope that he can manage to win 14 games between now and the end of next season. He looked like shit on Sunday.

As for the Betemit trade, I am pretty dissappointed that we gave up on a guy who was so versatile and only got back Baez and Aybar. Aybar looked solid yesterday so maybe he'll be a diamond in the rough. Wilson had three hits in his first game for LA. I guess if nothing else it'll give Pena Jr a chance to prove if he can hit assuming he gets some PT at 3rd.

I would rather have thrown away this season than traded betemit. Bad bad bad bad bad. I'm usually pretty supportive of the management, but this is a bad trade.
