How'd you keep from spraypainting the letters on the barbells?
10/18/2006 8:38:49 PM
I painted over them several times, and then after the red paint had a chance to dry I went back and touched up the letters with a fresh coat of white paint. since the letters are raised, it was fairly easy to hit them with a small brush. I taped the bristles together so that I wouldn't end up with white splatter on the plates.
10/18/2006 8:44:42 PM
I haven't been keeping up, is that your private workout spot?
10/18/2006 9:02:37 PM
I'm setting up a gym in my garage right now. I'm hoping to buy a power cage in the next couple of months and possibly pick up an elliptical machine to put in the living room beside my exercise bike.

How'd you keep from spraypainting the garage floor? [Edited on October 18, 2006 at 9:09 PM. Reason : ]
10/18/2006 9:09:34 PM
it's a garage floor. it's supposed to look like it's been used for projects.
10/18/2006 9:10:29 PM
Looks fucking sweet man. Having your own dungeon w/ no rules is where its at. Suprised I didn't get yelled at for doing reverse band dl's.
10/18/2006 11:11:01 PM
My DL is all messed up. I can't get a comfortable set up, like my shoulders are too far forward so there is no leg drive. I might switch to a sumo stance.
10/24/2006 9:05:44 PM
have you tried putting baby powder on your shins and dragging the bar up your legs? if I don't hit my knees going up, then it feels awkward.
10/24/2006 9:09:19 PM
Nope, I'm more of a dive bomber...grip and rip, but my shoulders where behind the bar and I was pulling straight back, don't think I've tried pulling that close to my shins. Now I have gained some weight in my gut, which could be causing some problems for me as far as my set up. I just wrapped up reverse bands cycle today so that could have also given me some fits.
10/24/2006 9:21:19 PM
I grip the bar and then dip down, rocking the bar into my shins as close as I can before starting the ascent. That allows me to use my legs heavily in the first inch of the lift and then shift more into back strength. I also lock my traps as far back as I comfortably can so that I'm not rounding out my upper back.Deadlifts are IMHO the only trap exercise that needs to be done, with maybe the exception of explosive high pulls. If I ever want to make the transition to olympic lifts, I might start doing that. I would definitely need to find a different gym before I start doing that though.
10/24/2006 9:30:13 PM
It's time to open up a Power/Olympic Friendly Gym around here.
10/24/2006 9:32:02 PM
wear pants when doing Deads (preferably sweat pants) if you don't have or can't use chalk seems to help a little bitand deads are basically all I do for traps too...sometimes I'll throw in some power shrugs, but only like once every other week
10/24/2006 11:07:32 PM
I always enjoy it when people walk up to me in the gym and ask me "Holy Shit! What do you do to work traps?" The shock on their face when I tell them "not a damn thing, except for max effort deadlifts and heavy bentover barbell rows" is hysterical.
10/24/2006 11:11:04 PM
"what's a deadlift?"..........."wow, that looks dangerous...I'll just keep doing DB Shrugs with 20s for 30 reps"
10/24/2006 11:13:08 PM
shrugs are worthless. they only work about 5% of the actual trap muscle. the majority of the muscle is designed to shrug the shoulder blades back towards each other; not to your ears.
10/24/2006 11:33:03 PM
I might order up some knee and wrist wraps. Should I go Inzer or Metal?
10/24/2006 11:52:33 PM
I don't even bother to wear my lifting belt, so who knows? are you on ironaddicts or any forum like that? they'd give you better advice than this thread will.

I just started deadlifting this semester and have made pretty decent gains (size and more importantly numbers). Its my main exercise in every workout nowI was actually suprised to see this many other deadlifters. Anyone else on "power to the people" by pavel?
11/8/2006 10:34:37 PM
You should do more then just DL.
11/8/2006 11:21:14 PM
Went to an all female aerobics class today HAHA! And then did some butterfly curls
11/8/2006 11:22:20 PM
Well DL and Side Presswith pull-ups mixed in But the DL does work a shat ton of muscles
11/8/2006 11:31:38 PM
If you want a big DL, you have do Squats, GM's etc.
11/8/2006 11:32:13 PM
I dont have a good place to squat right now and never really tried good mornings (isnt that what a GM is?) I think just doing the DL has really made me get my form down and a lot of my gains have come from that and increased Neural pathways(muscles know when to fire off etc)
11/8/2006 11:36:14 PM

you're going to need a CDL to be able to haul all that shit back to NC, but you could part it out and get your money back after keeping the stuff you wanted.
11/9/2006 12:14:13 PM
haha yea, there is some crazy stuff in there I don't want/need
11/9/2006 12:18:43 PM
the only things I would want are the power cage, the texas bar, the dog collar york clamps, and the deadlift platform.
11/9/2006 12:23:55 PM
I'll take the Glute Ham Raise, Tires, Box, Platform, Squat Stands and Bumper Plates

I finally finished painting the lettering on my 100lb plates. now I just need to get a good power cage and squat bar to for them to call home.
11/11/2006 6:05:35 PM
Occasionally one pops up on craigslist.
11/11/2006 6:18:53 PM
I've yet to see one that looked worth a damn pop up on there in the last few months, although I didn't bother to check this week. There is a nice one at US Fitness Equipment beside me that is a really nice commercial piece for $500. they've cut the price in half on it in the last 3 months, and I want to see if they'll drop the price even further if it doesn't sell by Christmas.I have a lot of other things to spend my money on in the coming months, and I have a simple set of squat stands that I can utilize in the time being. I just need to go pick them up from home.[Edited on November 11, 2006 at 6:22 PM. Reason : I keep having to work out of town when they advertise commercial gym closings on craigslist]

what the hell was up with that light rack? I thought all the bulbs on the bottom are supposed to be red.I wish they had shot that from the side, because it didn't look like he squatted to full depth.
