i think its a 266. I don't even remember earlier ones taking even more than 2 or 300 hours, and they were 200pt units as well.

I'd just love to limit out those fuckers so I can do something useful in a relatively short span of time.

^Not worth it IMHO. If you do use slow machines, set the client to only accept timeless WU, otherwise you will not finish in time for deadlines and not get credit.

If we add 2,500 pts. more per day, we'll be the #1 folding university!

Ok, i should be up and running for state.
Question: do you have to reinput all the info everytime folding starts?

^Welcome. You can just enter it once. It may not hurt to restart the client after you enter it.

^OK, you are right, but they do not help the project, which is the main goal. Run timeless WUs for the science and stats.
Quote :
"Are there any limits to how long my machine can take to finish a work unit (WU)?

Yes. Depending on the work unit, unfinished work units for most projects "expire" and are reassigned to new machines. Since new WUs are generated by finishing old ones, we must keep things moving along by expiring units. As we move to longer WUs we will extend this time as needed. For instance, for the villin molecule we are currently using the expiration time of 3days. Some expiration times are shorter. You will get stats credit for all units that you complete, even if they have expired, but they will not be as useful scientifically."

Got another stupid question.
JUst finished first work unit, and i was wondering how long these things are supposed to take.
This is my second unit with 400 frames, my first was worth 240 points. WHat is the average length/point ratio. I'm used to running seti and its 2 hour workunits, its a bit strange for me, as folding is taking about 4 mins a frame.

Just looking for a perspective
Thanks in advance

you could add the following flags

 -local -advmethods -forceasm

then restart your folding at home shortcut. this should give you better work units (or faster to complete units after you finish the current. The tinkers (400 framed units) are the longest ones and give the most points. There is a correlation between points and CPU, what is your CPU and we could estimate for you... But keep folding, a few small enhancements will make it go faster and get you more into... also welcome to the team.

i get around 80 points a day from my machines (some are extremely slow though and get much less). others should be able to give more perspective...

I Read all about the cpu reference [p4 2.8 no ht etc] i was just unsure what the average frame length was. Im running -forceasm right now, what do -advmethods and -local do? Ive seen them talked about but never explained.

For reference im running an Athlon64 at 2.35 gHz

okay, -local is for when running more than one instance which without ht you probably don't need to do (only used when doing more than one instance)

i have one running at 11 minutes a frame so 11*100/60 equals 18.33 hours WU 1275 (46 points)
another at 7 minutes... not listed for point value WU 1098

this is just on my computer that i am on, running two instances (p4 3.0 w/ HT) can post more when i get to the computers.

OK thanks,
I didnt know how long each frame should take. Guess im not taking an exceptionally long time after all.
Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the team. You'll show up in the stats on 3rd party stats the next update or so. Don't worry too much about flags right now. Currently, I don't think there is much difference running them unless you have a P4 with HT or dual processors.

kudos on that gromac.. I have no idea what I get anymore, it's hard to monitor 40+ machines...

I just keep an eye on my 24hr. average (which is low, must find those machines and turn them on. Too bad they are spread out around the county. )
