For your second point, I read it as "Some say you have to be CRAZY to take me as a client... but maybe you have to be a TRUE AMERICAN PATRIOT". I mean, the guy isn't exactly the most lucid these days...

As to the first, yes and no. Cheeto is treading a fine line in court with what he is saying. Generally speaking, you want folks to be able to accuse a judge of being biased in court, both officially via their lawyers and more contemporaneously in testimony or questioning from the judge, as we've seen here. To the extent that you aren't overly disrespectful, you should be able to "get away with it." Now, if you drop a bunch of f-bombs or interrupt the proceedings, that's a different animal, but how Cheeto has been doing it is allowed.

Having said that, most people don't do what Cheeto has been doing, and for damned good reason. It's generally a bad idea to needlessly piss off the judge who is deciding your fate. But then again, most people don't have a Super PAC they can use to fleece idiots into paying for their own legal troubles. Most people also don't have legions of sycophantic followers they can sic on anyone they want with a single social media post.

Cheeto's legal strategy is just different than basically every other defendant. He has no legal leg to stand on in any of these cases, so he can't go through the normal processes here. So, his antics in the courtroom are both legal and political. For the federal cases, his strategy is to get re-elected so he can pardon himself and make it all go away. For the state cases, his strategy is first, to delay past the election in the hopes he is President again and can put the proceedings on hold; but he also wants to piss the judge off so much that he or she lashes out against his antics, and then claim the judge was biased the whole time and get the case thrown out, hopefully with prejudice. And make no mistake, his antics in the state cases right now are also targeted to get him re-elected.

Put simply, he has no interest in actually winning these cases on their merits (because he can't), which puts him at odds with literally every other defendant in our country's history. As he has always done, he is using basic legal rights afforded to citizens to attack the foundations of the country.

This Fulton County DA stuff is such bad optics. I know it doesn't excuse Trump's wrongdoings, but she's gotta go for sure...

Why? What does her banging a coworker have to do with any supposed inability to ethically or properly prosecute this case? It's such a non-sequitur. Cheeto light as well have said "She wore a red dress the other day, she should be DQed". It's stupid as fuck for her to have brought her boy toy on to the case, but that's about it

That's not the problem. It's a lot more complicated than that given that she paid him 600k and he's never even tried a federal case.

And that's s great reason for the voters (or the lege) to kick her out. But not for the judge.

So to fight/punish corruption, your solution is to look the other way and downplay minimize more corruption?

Yeah, it's bad. People really need to be beyond reproach when they try to take out giants. Of course it doesn't excuse Trump's crimes, but it's too easy to latch onto. I don't know how this isn't obvious.

Roberta Kaplan says Trump threw papers across table at Mar-a-Lago deposition because his legal team agreed to feed her lunch

https://www.cnn.com/2024/02/01/politics/roberta-kaplan-donald-trump-deposition-maralago/index.html

Quote :
"Attorney Roberta Kaplan said former President Donald Trump threw papers across a table and stormed off during a deposition at Mar-a-Lago after learning that his legal team had agreed to provide her lunch.

Kaplan, who has represented clients in high-profile cases against Trump, including E. Jean Carroll, said on an episode of the “George Conway Explains it All (to Sarah Longwell)” podcast recorded Thursday that she rejected the former president’s request that they work through a lunch break because he believed the deposition was “a waste of my time.”

“And then you could kind of see the wheel spinning in his brain. You could really almost see it,” Kaplan told Republican strategist Sarah Longwell and conservative attorney George Conway, a longtime Trump critic. “And he said, ‘Well, you’re here in Mar-a-Lago. What do you think you’re going to do for lunch? Where are you going to get lunch?’”

Kaplan said she told him that his attorneys had “graciously offered to provide” her team with lunch — a common civil practice between opposing legal teams.

“At which point there was a huge pile of documents, exhibits, sitting in front of him, and he took the pile and he just threw it across the table. And stormed out of the room,” Kaplan shared, adding that Trump specifically yelled at his lawyer Alina Habba for providing them lunch.

“He really yelled at Alina for that. He was so mad at Alina,” she said.

Kaplan continued: “He came back in and he said, ‘Well, how’d you like the lunch?’ And I said, ‘Well, sir, I had a banana. You know, I can never really eat when I’m taking testimony.’ And he said, ‘Well, I told you,’ — it was kind of charming. He said, ‘I told you, I told them to make you really bad sandwiches, but they can’t help themselves here. We have the best sandwiches.’”

Kaplan was deposing Trump at Mar-Lago in a lawsuit alleging the former president was involved with a fraudulent marketing company. A federal judge dismissed the suit last month.

In a separate anecdote, Kaplan detailed the end of the deposition when she was set to leave, saying that Trump told her: “See you next Tuesday” – a phrase that is often used as a derogatory euphemism directed at women.

“We come in the room and I say, ‘I’m done asking questions’ and immediately I hear from the other side, ‘Off the record. Off the record. Off the record.’ So they must have planned it. And he looks at me from across the table and he says, ‘See you next Tuesday,’” she recounted.

Kaplan said that she was initially confused, as their next meeting was set for a Wednesday. “You could tell it was like, it was like a kind of a joke again, like teenage boys would come up with. But again, I wasn’t in on the joke,” she said.

“I wasn’t in on the joke, so I had no idea. Then we get into the car and my colleagues are like, ‘Robbie, do you know what that means?’ And I’m like, ‘No, what are you talking about?’ They tell me and I’m like, oh my God, thank God I didn’t know because had I known, I for sure would have gotten angry. There’s no question I would have gotten angry,” Kaplan said."

Long, I know, but worth the read. So infantile. Should have served her hamberders and a literacola.

I think it's from "When Harry Met Sally," but I come from a family that curses and insults each other all the time so I assumed this was common knowledge. I don't use the c-word, personally, because if I did it would slip out all the time, but I do enjoy it when my female friends call other women it.

Lol, that's clever. But I can't imagine unironically saying in a moment of exasperation. Feels like it would only be a movie dialogue, or a case where you see the movie and then use it because of that right afterwards

Quote :
"... on August 1, 2023, in Washington, D.C., former President Trump was charged in a four-count Indictment as a result of his actions challenging the election results and interfering with the sequence set forth in the Constitution for the transfer of power from one President to the next. Former President Trump moved to dismiss the Indictment and the district court denied his motion. Today, we affirm the denial. For the purpose of this criminal case, former President Trump has become citizen Trump, with all of the defenses of any other criminal defendant. But any executive immunity that may have protected him while he served as President no longer protects him against this prosecution."

The ruling goes into more detail regarding executive immunity on page 18 of the document.

The required cognitive dissonance required for both him and his sycophants to swallow such a statement is astounding. He routinely praises Putin for running a brutal dictatorship over there. Then he suddenly thinks about how awful it is that our country is supposedly becoming like that brutal dictatorship?

The transgender issue has hurt democrats with nonwhites. Funny thing is democrat politicians don’t care about transgender people. It was the gop that started passing stupid laws about them that democrats had to push back on and now the public thinks democrats are the ones who keep talking about it

Do you have a reference for that claim? This data shows non whites appear about the same as whites on general views. I've not found a poll that says how important the issue is in regards to how they vote
