added? will nikon change a reticle?not sure what good mildots would be on a scope with 1/4 MOA adjustments anyway

Didn't realize it was going to be this hard to find an LCR
4/20/2013 6:15:16 PM
What price range are you looking for on the LCR? Are you looking for .38 special or .357?I don't have one, just curious...
4/20/2013 8:20:33 PM
.38 Special w/ XS sight is what I want but if the deal is right I can go w/out the XS.
4/20/2013 11:40:10 PM
Gotcha, I didn't realize they were that hard to find.

So I just got my first shotgun back in January. Remington 870. I haven't shot it too much, maybe 150 rounds or so. A while back it started jamming up pretty bad. Got to the point where every shell would stick coming out of it. I stopped shooting it once this happened. Been busy with some other stuff so it's basically been sitting since February or so. Today I finally got around to cleaning it, and when I started taking it apart I heard a small rattle in the butt end of it once I took the bolt out. Turned it upside down and a small piece of metal came out. After looking around a little bit, I found out where it came from. Took some pictures, and I was wondering if anybody could give me some advice on what I should do, or if it would be safe to not worry about. Here's a picture with the piece in place. Here's one where I moved it away. Here's one with the piece completely gone. And here's what the piece looks like by itself. If I had to guess, I would say that a) that's what was causing my jamming, and b) it would probably be ok to shoot without that piece of metal, but I am not sure on either of those guesses, so I was hoping that someone with more knowledge could let me know what's up. Thanks.

Upon further inspection, it looks like that piece of metal is what keeps the barrel of the gun from wiggling around once it is in place. Don't think I feel like chancing it on something like that. Will be calling Remington customer support tomorrow since it's still under warranty.
4/21/2013 3:48:28 PM
looks like the ejector to me. it pushes against the spent shell to force it out of the gun.[Edited on April 21, 2013 at 4:06 PM. Reason : commonly confused with the extractor (the "claw" that pulls the shell back)]
4/21/2013 4:04:48 PM
Here's a couple more pictures with the barrel back in place. With the piece missing.with it laying in place. So you're saying it's not just what keeps the barrel from wiggling around?edit: I think you're right in that this is part of the ejector housing, but this part specifically isn't part of the ejector. Unless I just completely have no idea what I'm looking at, which is an extremely likely possibility. ]
4/21/2013 4:21:36 PM
brownell's calls it the ejectorhttp://www.brownells.com/schematics/Remington-/870-Express-sid2.aspx#s27250sid2either way, it's riveted in, so you're probably not going to be fixing this yourself
4/21/2013 4:45:11 PM
ah, you are correct. The bolt being not placed all the way to the rear in your first post threw me off. The part of the ejector that throws the spent shells out of the receiver is about 2" farther back and they are part of the same piece of metal.[Edited on April 21, 2013 at 4:47 PM. Reason : it is the ejector....they are the same part.]
4/21/2013 4:47:03 PM
Alright, thanks for the input. At least that will allow me to sound a little less clueless when I'm talking to customer support tomorrow. Hopefully this will be covered by the warranty.
4/21/2013 4:52:02 PM
when you get it back, it'd be a good time to sell it and get something that isn't a piece of crap
4/21/2013 4:59:27 PM
Is it really? I just wanted a basic shotgun and everything I read said to go with the 870 or the Mossberg 500. I mean, yeah, it may be the Camry of shotguns, but I'm not going to be using it for hunting or anything. Just something to mess around with, and also something to have around the house in case I need it which hopefully will never happen, but you never know.
4/21/2013 5:19:38 PM
Years ago they were great guns......(Remington went to crap)
4/21/2013 5:37:27 PM
This is first I have heard of an 870 not being a highly regarded shotgun.
4/21/2013 5:42:23 PM
4/21/2013 6:35:44 PM
I referred to new 870s as garbage a couple of years ago and got run out of the thread for it. Glad to see that people are coming around to seeing them as mass produced imitations of their former self. I personally would rather spend another $100 or so and get a BPS, but I'm left handed and prefer a gun with bottom ejection. Whoever's in the duck blind beside me also prefers me having bottom ejection too. I also think a tang safety is much easier to use than the thumb safety on the 870.The old 870 Wingmasters were good guns; it's a shame what's happened to that gun.
4/21/2013 8:21:53 PM
mossberg 500 is lower cost, has a tang safety, and has a slide release in a more ergonomic position. no reason to buy an 870 for home defense imo.
4/21/2013 8:25:34 PM
Or buy an old police trade-in 870 at Lawmen's. Are they still doing that?
4/21/2013 8:27:27 PM
i love my 870 super mag, although i only bought it really because i neededa) a long barrel pump 12 gaugeb) it was so discounted at bass pro it was hard to ignorec) ive never owned a camo gun before or one that fired 3.5 inch shellsA word on those shells, I fucking hate them and I seriously doubt there are many situations where 3 inch isnt enough. Ive fired most safari calibers in existence and none of them give me a headache the way a 3.5 inch steel load does.Ive never shot a turkey but they must be immortal or something. The express line is what truly ruined the 870. Cerebus is terrible, but it was such a simple gun to begin with it would be really hard to screw it up (fundamentally). Unless you go LOOKING for cost cutting measures and ways to make an already cheap gun cheaper... And you get the 870 express. The metal looks like it got a rattlecan paintjob and the wood looks like those laminate particleboard bookcases at walmart. Terrible.[Edited on April 21, 2013 at 11:20 PM. Reason : -]

Mildots are for shooting ballistic and wind holds, which becomes much more difficult with your standard duplex reticle.
4/22/2013 9:59:24 AM
turkeys, no; Swans - fuck those birds.
4/22/2013 10:26:24 AM
^^ Thanks, Yep I understand how that works.
4/22/2013 11:49:01 AM
870 expresses are ok guns if you don't factor in cost. If you factor in the cost then you're better off with a mossberg or norinco or any of the other pumps. Considering the number of 870s sold a broken ejector isn't significant. Then again, if Remington didn't cheap out and rivet POS parts in then it might not have broken. I'm not a fan of Cerberus/Remington in general. They really have cashed in on a name. Seriously, who tf in their right mind thinks its ok to make an extractor in a bolt gun out of a riveted circular piece of thin spring steel?
4/23/2013 12:34:28 AM
Good place/places for me to go and get my hands on some handguns to get a feel before I buy?
4/23/2013 8:42:21 PM
^ You can rent various guns from PDHSC. Be warned that it's not cheap.
4/23/2013 8:49:11 PM
I have a Rem 887 nitro-mag. I hate it. I want to trade it in for a S&W model 60 .357 mag with a 3" barrel. I would pay $400 difference. Maybe there is a pwn shop somewhere in NOLA that can make my dreams come true.
4/24/2013 1:38:02 AM
is it the piece of shit tactical 887?
4/24/2013 1:24:01 PM
cant really beat thishttp://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/catalog/product/view/id/12914/s/blackhawk-ar-15-stock-kit/shipping is $7. so try and get some other things to help offset. (2 kits plus a blackhawk holster was still $7 shipping)
4/24/2013 2:07:57 PM
^^no, its a 28" black synthetic with screw in chokes. it was an anger purchase after a wet mossberg incident.
4/24/2013 4:39:35 PM
why was your mossberg wet[Edited on April 24, 2013 at 9:09 PM. Reason : and what did it do]
4/24/2013 9:09:25 PM
brackish/salt water. put away wet.
4/24/2013 10:25:38 PM
I would say something about never putting a gun away wet, but it sounds like you may have learned firsthand...

Yeah, its one of those things you know better but somehow end up doing it anyway: like eating hot pockets or driving after 3 beers.

decided to go with the vortex.will review it next week!probably bought more scope that i needed, but for the money it seemed like the tits. also you can always dial a scope back, but never know when you might need more.at least that was my justification.and i managed to spend around $500 with DNZ one piece mounts too. yay!
4/26/2013 2:17:52 PM
Which model?
4/26/2013 3:54:32 PM
I got my CANs in today!!! I can't wait to go shooting!!!!My Kimber looks bad ass with the Osprey 45 Now I just need to buy a bolt action .22 for my Sparrow

My viper is the 6.5-20x44 with 30mm tube
4/26/2013 4:19:37 PM
the price difference was negligible and i figured i would be using high rings either way, so why not.i ordered the dnz one piece 30mm mounts for savage 114 (high).
4/26/2013 4:27:36 PM
i have the 44mm because that's just what i happened to find on the CSC classifieds. i had a 50mm leupold on there to start with and just used the same rings. i love DNZ mounts.

It wasn't hard...just expensive. The hardest part is waiting the 6-7 month waiting period for the ATF to get to your paperwork. I went the mulch-gererational Trust route.
4/27/2013 9:50:52 AM
What do you guys know about a TiSAS Zig 1911? internet seems to love them, wondering if any of y'all have any hands-on experience. I don't need another 1911 but my friend does really high-quality custom engraving and he's selling them at a price I can't refuse...
4/27/2013 10:59:57 AM
he buys them, engraves them, then sells to you?
