I was less impressed with Painter than I was Vandy[Edited on May 5, 2010 at 1:21 PM. Reason : At least Vandy gives defense, I didn't see anything from Painter]

i felt sorry for Vandenberg. He would go and establish a good position on the block, Javi/Mays would be like 3-4 ft away and wouldn't throw it to him, looking right at him :facepalm:but then he'd usually set a great pick or something
5/5/2010 1:38:03 PM
My guess is that Howell comes back way better next year. I also think we'll see big improvements with Painter, however limited minutes.
5/5/2010 2:02:11 PM
^^ yea but the one time they did throw the ball to him it was clown shoes
5/5/2010 2:05:25 PM
I don't feel sorry for Vandy, as he had a fine woman in tow at CJL's signing.

Painter definitely showed some flashes last year. He's just extremely raw. If he puts in the work during the summer, I could absolutely see him worked into the rotation as Tracy's backup.
5/5/2010 2:12:32 PM
I think Painter is gonna improve a lot over the summer. He has the tools, but needs the coaching.I think THE BIG DANDY VANDY just needs to be more comfortable with his offensive game. He looked like he was really hesitant to do anything with the ball each time he caught it close to the basket last year.

Saw on ESPN at lunch that Cothron committed to Auburn. Blip said that he selected Auburn over Tennessee and UConn. I thought Alabama was in the running and never heard about UT or UConn recruiting him. The timing of his commitment makes me believe he might have come back to State had CJL gone to UK.
5/5/2010 2:22:46 PM
Just saw this video, CJL is so sick!!!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtyIMhD436Q&playnext_from=TL&videos=D22ziQ-fLAc

ESPNU ran the announcement on their bottom line the day of CJL's verbal commitment.I was already bored with the NBA playoffs so instead I was watching the replay of this past Rose Bowl.

article about the class and next year's positionshttp://www.hpe.com/pages/full_story/push?article-N-C-%20State-s%20Lowe%20sets%20bar%20high%20&id=7299189&instance=homesportsmajor news is the move of tracy to power forward to get him ready for the pros. looks like he's eying either painter or vandy to step up at the center spot.

^it was new to me. all the projected line-ups had either leslie/howell/smith or wood/leslie/smith at the 3/4/5. moving smith to the 4 puts pressure on howell, painter, and vandy to really push it this off-season.
5/5/2010 5:44:50 PM
yeah, that was mostly the fan projected line-ups.sid was saying after the season was over that he wanted to move tracy to the 4 next year since that would most likely be his projected position in the nba. he wants him to be able to work on his all around game to show scouts he's not just a back to the basket post player. painter and vandy are gonna need to hit the weights hard this summer if it's gonna work, but yeah, that's the plan.
5/5/2010 5:55:42 PM
Ugh, I don't know. That was news to me as well, and I'm not sure how well that's going to work. I know it's going to prepare Smith for the NBA and all but will that be the most effective line up for us? So, we're looking at Harrow, Brown, Leslie, Smith, Painter/Vandenburg? I just don't know...
5/5/2010 7:00:13 PM
Mabry found not guiltyhttp://www.rockymounttelegram.com/news/gryphons-mabry-court-assault-charge-19363
5/5/2010 7:40:55 PM
good for him. it must be tough to carry that around for five months.
5/5/2010 7:45:18 PM
^^ Wonder if that means he'll be committing soon. Good for him though.
5/5/2010 7:57:09 PM
Tracy at 4, Painter backing him upHowell at 5, Vandy backing him up.Problem solved.
5/5/2010 8:44:02 PM
^^^^ this was a good read, from the comments section
5/5/2010 8:53:29 PM
No way Tracy plays >75% of his time at the 4 -unless Vandy or Painter can start contributing consistently. Despite my optimism, that is unlikely. He will swap back to the 5 at times when we shift to smaller lineups. We have too many guys (Howell, Davis, Wood, CJW, Thomas, Mabry?) who deserve playing time in order to develop. And they cant play the 5 while the Fab Four are already out there.... No way every lineup Sid plays has either Painter or Vandy in it...[Edited on May 5, 2010 at 9:17 PM. Reason : really interested in seeing how howell and CJW develop]
5/5/2010 9:07:32 PM
I doubt we see Tracy Smith play a ton at the 4 spot, I think this just meant THE BIG DANDY VANDY will get more minutes at the 5 than he did last year. If he can develop an offensive game and some muscle he may get more minutes, but I think we'll see TBDV getting some more playing time and allow us to be really deep to keep Tracy fresh and out of foul trouble at certain points in the game.
5/5/2010 9:10:55 PM
5/5/2010 9:18:22 PM
If Vandy can put on some muscle and learn to consistently make a layup over the summer he could be a pretty valuable player imo. GT got to the title game with Schenscher after all.
5/5/2010 9:25:58 PM
so whos this big dapper gandy that everyone is hooting and hollering about? is he on word to god high school too
5/5/2010 9:30:46 PM
If Painter would learn not to throw up a shot every single time he touches the ball, that would be a major improvement.
5/5/2010 9:33:44 PM
this is cute and all everyone talking about tracy playing the 4 spot for nba scouting really it is...the bottom line is he is playing wherever he is neededif lowe doesnt win this year hes out so... don't think he will care about tracy playing the 4 for scouts IF AND ONLY IF the team isn't performing with it
5/5/2010 9:48:10 PM
5/5/2010 10:00:43 PM
tracy's kind of like a poor man's dejuan blair at this point with less talent but more knee ligaments. he'll have to work hard to get picked up in the 2nd round.
5/5/2010 10:46:00 PM
tracy is the size of an NBA Small Forward with a Centers game........i don't see him having a future in the NBA. A very good college post-man.....but not in the NBA
5/6/2010 7:19:43 AM
Does anybody know anything about Antonin Galaya? He's a 6' 5" shooting gaurd from Goldsboro (moved here from France). I had never heard anything about him until just now. It'd be nice to have another good outside shooter other than Scott Wood. Here's an article about his school's issues with the NCAA (maybe that's why we haven't heard much about him...):http://scouthoops.scout.com/2/907272.html
5/6/2010 9:44:41 AM
interesting note about the Big Four which I didn't realize until this morningAll 4 of the Tobacco Road teams have top-13 recruiting classes according to Scoutmore proof that the ACC is the shit
5/6/2010 11:44:14 AM
heard Hodge on 99.9 on Tuesdayhe said something along the lines of Painter having the highest ceiling as far as ability and improvement goand that as long as he works hard this summer, he expects him to make a big leap from Freshman to Sophomore year
5/6/2010 12:02:02 PM
so does Hodge have a weekly spot on there now or what
5/6/2010 12:22:18 PM
i think they had him on to talk about Leslie's event at Sammy's, and also about Fowlerhe's on just about every week now, which is awesome because it means State is relevanti drive a lot for work, and i listen to sports talk radio often. on local shows, it's been all about NC State for the past few weeks...Duke and Carolina have been lightly discussed
5/6/2010 12:40:32 PM
per his twitter last month, he is on every friday
5/6/2010 12:41:22 PM
Wear Brothers to NC State?
5/6/2010 3:38:01 PM
5/6/2010 3:44:27 PM
^ no shit? this is becoming hilarious
5/6/2010 3:48:42 PM
wut
5/6/2010 3:48:46 PM
hell yeah...so basically they're saying "we are leaving UNC because the fans suck ass and are whine and cheese...we want to go to a place where the fans really care, kind of like NC State fans care, not how shitty UNC fans act"
5/6/2010 3:51:00 PM
This is becoming a dream realized. That would be some GOOD shit if they came to State. Big blow to unc and big ups to NC State. Plus the added talent to the roster if everyone stays and comes. What a dream.....(Come True Come True!!??) III
5/6/2010 3:53:07 PM
where's the link for that report
5/6/2010 3:54:26 PM
