has the Sid Squad put up a single good argument as to why we shouldn't blame these type of god-awful performances on the coach or are they all too concerned with hating on the whiners?
12/22/2010 11:46:55 PM
Actually, tonight was some god damn horse shit and I don't know who to blame. Still not gonna be a total cock licker and bitch like we need Sidney to be fired. However...if that shot had gone in I would have strongly considered shooting myself in the face.^How about that every god damn one of them isn't on the team. Maybe other teams are allowed to play a decent game against us. How about that every fucking night you're not gonna come out blazing from 3 and clicking on all cylinders. Not that tonight was either of those because we sucked all around, but jesus christ it gets old to listen to every fucking game win or lose.

^^NoTonight fit the "Bad" category. Wisconson did too. The others didn't really fit into either. I thought we played well all around vs. George Mason, and we've played well in stretches (last 30 minutes vs. YSU). Tonight however, was just a bad game from start to finish. I'd say we've had 3 like that all year. We had played well at Syracuse, and the first 28 minutes of the GT game as well. As Ernie has been saying...its not black and white....unless you only look at the box score.[Edited on December 23, 2010 at 2:10 AM. Reason : ]

we did not play "well" at syracuse, we had 56 turnovers. That is not playing well by any stretch of the imagination.

I kinda stopped following this thread a couple weeks ago, for the Lowe supporters, do they have a good run down of the excuses for why we aren't better than we are? Obviously, not having Smith is a problem, but what are the reasons why our group of guys can't handle teams like Delawho State without Smith?
12/23/2010 7:55:36 AM
That performance is indefensible.Thank god we got the win.At this point I think its mental and the players aren't responding well to not being as good as they expected themselves to be

let me make sure i have this right.us without tracy= team that has to hit a last second shot to beat Deleware State.us with tracy= tournament team.us next year= something even better, or else people would already be through with Sid.I have no idea what coaching ability people still claim to see in Lowe.AstralEngine is starting to sound like he should be calling this a....SEASON OF INCHES[Edited on December 23, 2010 at 10:31 AM. Can someone explain why Howell still only played 24 minutes last night? I would argue that he's at least our 2nd best player right now in spite of his flaws and that against a team like Delaware State the fact that he struggles to defend centers is really irrelevant[Edited on December 23, 2010 at 10:33 AM. people are suckers for expecting a 5th year coach and "ACC level talent", freshman or not (especially freshman supposedly a step from the NBA) to easily handle bad minor conference teams.sorry i've missed the wizardry of sid these past few years. ^ I've literally never seen a system so complex that it turns freshman of this level into what these guys have been. And pointing out that Duke win over and over will not make his career. The full body of work, given the resources at his disposal, illustrates a squandering of opportunity.
12/23/2010 11:16:00 AM
If a good coach's system doesn't work, he moves on to something that does. A coach like Izzo or K would not have the players we have looking like garbage. Sorry.
12/23/2010 11:19:25 AM
A system so complex that it leaves players baffled enough to stand around for 20 seconds.

Running the same system and being unable to adapt when it fails is why Paul Westhead can only coach in the WNBA now.Actually, I'm not so sure Sid even HAS a system.

How much do some good ACC tournament wins mean when you consider that the rest of his body of work? What from the rest of his seasons makes you say "well, he's sure shown me he belongs coaching upper tier NCAA basketball"? The inability to find any sort of system that fits the players he has? The awesome dry spells? The seeming inability to prepare for simple games?
12/23/2010 1:41:26 PM
I've come to the conclusion that some of you people just like pessimistic bitching and whiningHey let me see how much I can shit on this team after a win
12/23/2010 2:00:37 PM
It's true, while they may not realize it, a lot of sports fans actually have more fun watching sports when their team is struggling. I saw a study on it a year or two ago. I forgot how they came to that conclusion though. But you can definitely see it on message boards. When they have a good win or string of wins, they'll disappear. But when they're not meeting expectations (or winning national championships), they're all "BARKBARKRAWRBARKRAWR!!!!!!!1" It's obvious that some posters get off-on on bitching and complaining. That's not to say that some of the bitching and complaining isn't warranted.

Harping on sidneys offensive scheme is just baffling and stunningly incorrect.2007: offense ranked 46th nationally, missing atsur for a large chunk of the season, after losing bennerman, simmons, brackman, bethel, and evtimov. That's impressive, no one would argue that its not2008: offense ranked 90th nationally (everyone is in agreement this season sucked, but we had no D1 PG on the roster either)2009: offense ranked 30th nationally! 30th, how can you argue that isn't relatively impressive for a 3rd year coach?2010: offense ranked 109th nationally. Clearly this was due to personnel. There isn't a coach in the country that could get mays or degand to make an open 3 pointer. We tried playing horner to improve our offense and he ended up costing more points on the other end than he could score... 2011: ranked 67th on offense and would likely be in the 30-40's if we had tracy smith, who no one would argue isn't one of the best offensive players in the countryIts really been DEFENSE that has plagued us while sidneys been here but I think now that we are getting legitimate ACC talent we can improve in that area. We were a pretty good defensive team last year and I think we can get back to that.I think if johnny thomas had known smith would be out with an injury for so long he may have stayed. That sure would have cured a lot of our problems so far this year on the defensive end and on the glass
12/23/2010 3:50:58 PM
Yep...6'5" SF Johnny Thomas would have benefited A LOT from Tracy Smith's injury....
12/23/2010 4:07:26 PM
Jumpin' Johnny Thomas
12/23/2010 4:13:19 PM
Thomas played pf almost exclusively last year and he's a good rebounder/defender, certainly would have helped
12/23/2010 4:19:44 PM
^You mean SF...and he played what...12 minutes total last year?
12/23/2010 5:05:39 PM
12/23/2010 7:57:43 PM
Maybe we could get Drew from Baylor. They are looking real good right now.
12/23/2010 8:00:39 PM
after researching that ^ I saw some shocking numbers that i was unaware of:Costner's minutes went down from 1,239 in 06-07 to 748 in 07-08McCauley's minutes went down from 1,243 in 06-07 to 676 in 07-08was Hickson really worth it?
12/23/2010 8:02:50 PM
^ None of which ever played any actual meaningful minutes for Herb. Don't forget Mccauley was a perimeter oriented big man who Sid Lowe and co had to mold into a more traditional post player. I don't really think you can give Sendek much credit for what those players accomplished in their tenure here.
12/23/2010 8:06:06 PM
You're such a piece of shitFirst, we played five more games in 06-07Second, we had absolutely no depth that year. The starters all averaged 33+ MPG[Edited on December 23, 2010 at 8:11 PM. Reason : Not to mention both played like shit in 07-08, the less they were on the court the better]
12/23/2010 8:09:58 PM
what I'm saying is that they played significant minutes in Sid's first year and then their minutes were cut in half the following yearthat's all
12/23/2010 8:10:50 PM
What I'm saying is that it's irrelevant and you're playing your typical shit-starter role by playing naive
