I honestly prefer the WebOS email experience to both Android and iOS, even though I never use it anymore
3/27/2014 7:18:11 PM
the iphone is a peice of shit for email, you have to pull it down to make it refresh
3/27/2014 7:38:50 PM
Oh really? That's what I mean when the read status doesn't update. I have to open the email app for the app badge to go away (if I read the email on another device).[Edited on March 27, 2014 at 7:56 PM. Reason : s]

Also I just started using Swype with Swiftkey. Holy shit. I barely even miss my slideout keyboard anymore.
3/27/2014 7:56:43 PM
Although the exchange read status might be a limitation of the ActiveSync version my company is using for Exchange.
3/27/2014 7:58:36 PM
Does it (iPhone) still not notify with Gmail?
3/27/2014 8:03:17 PM
^my fiance has an iPhone and she gets tons of notifications with the Gmail app

blackberry and winphone are the only good mail/messaging interfaces. BB10 hub crushes everything. android is mostly garbage until you get touch down iphone is just as garbage without a nice option like touchdown.]

I still really like my N5, but lately it stopped recognizing "Navigate Home" I checked and my home address was still saved in Maps. I even removed it completely for a day and then re-added our home address and then another time tried simply changing our home address to something else.Instead of working, it simply does a google search for "navigate home" now
3/28/2014 11:13:41 AM
^ That still works for me...but instead of doing that, set up a "Directions" widget on your homescreen to navigate home with one tap.]
3/28/2014 11:25:22 AM
thanks. That's what I'll probably do (that's basically what I had setup on my old DX2). No idea why my phone stopped recognizing the voice command though.
3/28/2014 12:09:49 PM
I'm running 4.4 but I installed Swiftkey as soon as I got Amazon Appstore installed just cause it was so cool on previous phones
3/28/2014 5:10:18 PM
Anyone have any good game recommendations?I just installed Quiz Up, and it's pretty fun.

Madden 25[Edited on March 28, 2014 at 5:16 PM. Reason : it's free]

Swiftkey can also search through your contacts, Facebook, GMail, etc to improve predictions
3/30/2014 5:34:51 PM
hm. Nexus 5 won't make or receive calls now. Seems like the few quirks I've had over the past couple weeks are becoming more common. I've really loved this phone. Not sure if I need to try a factory reset or what. But, not being able to make or receive calls is no bueno.
3/30/2014 8:50:04 PM
^^ yeah that's a pretty helpful feature.^ sucks. any errors or anything? at least it's still under warranty...Any chance a newly installed app could be screwed up? I'm imagine a factory reset will take care of it.http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/02/22/bug-watch-nexus-5-can-randomly-stop-receiving-calls-and-text-messages-for-some/

colleague needs a new phone and wants android that he "doesn't have to root or screw with." whats the best android phone out of the box, the new HTC One?
4/9/2014 10:44:07 AM
^ yup
4/9/2014 10:46:31 AM
I love my Nexus 7 tablet, its fast as fuck and fits in my pocket. Also I got the 4g one so it has service everywhere I go.
4/10/2014 12:51:37 PM
I've had my DROID Maxx for a few weeks now and it's pretty awesome. Excellent battery life, which they tout as being the highest of any device, and just a great upgrade overall over my last phone. I tried the Wireless Display feature on a 55" Samsung tv and it is pretty cool. Only wish somebody would figure out how to root KitKat so I can use my ScreenCast app.
4/10/2014 4:03:41 PM
so mailbox is available on android now, anyone using it?
4/11/2014 9:20:15 AM
No. But "today calendar" just replaced my Google calendar. Way better of a month view, and I love the widgets, have been using those for a long time.
4/11/2014 8:55:00 PM
hello is a pretty sweet sms app

4/13/2014 9:17:06 PM
How do I uninstall all the Verizon shit?
4/14/2014 9:24:08 AM
^ root + something like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=zsj.android.uninstall
4/14/2014 12:29:27 PM
damn, i was hoping there was a way to do it without rooting.Event Flow Calendar is my favorite calendar widget if you don't mind paying to upgrade. [Edited on April 14, 2014 at 2:07 PM. Reason : .]
4/14/2014 2:05:03 PM
Rooting is really easy. It just gives certain apps root access. Why would you not root it? I use Titanium backup to "freeze" all the carrier apps. It essentially removes them but it's a little easier to unfreeze them in case you screwed something up.
4/14/2014 2:21:48 PM
^^ I like Simple Calendar. I think it's free, but I'm not positive.https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anod.calendar
4/14/2014 2:27:17 PM
it looks like Event Flow is better with multiple calendars (and in my opinion the text is less cluttered)
4/14/2014 2:40:59 PM
Cool I'll check it out.
4/14/2014 2:44:09 PM
I still prefer the +1 Labs calendar widget

Event flow is pretty solid... I may even change from Today

i finally got internet service at my house (768K DSL from AT&T, the only thing available here )so now i won't be depending on PDAnet for all my internetting and i can give up my unlimited data plan and get a new phone. i've still got a Droid X that i love and have put through hell, but i got pissed and spiked it one day and it developed 4 black dots on the screen and the battery is toast.so what phones should i be looking at? i don't stay up-to-date with this stuff.
4/15/2014 9:33:19 PM
depends what you're looking to do, aside from talk on the phone and emailyou looking to play music? looking for good battery life? high end camera?
4/15/2014 9:41:11 PM
no music. long battery life is important. don't care about the camera as long as it's as good or better than the one on my Droid X.battery life and durability are most important.honestly, if i can look at weather radar and get GPS driving directions, i'm happy. that's the only real smartphone functionality i use besides email and googling random shit.[Edited on April 15, 2014 at 10:16 PM. 4/15/2014 10:14:00 PM
The Droid Maxx is advertised as having the best battery life, and it has a kevlar back so it's more durable than some of the other ones. I got one about a month ago so I'm biased. But any phone can be pretty durable if you get an Otterbox Defender case for it.Samsung's have removable batteries though, so if you bought a spare battery as well, that would solve that issue. My advice is always to go into a Verizon/Sprint/whatever store and fiddle around with a bunch of them yourself and see what you like[Edited on April 15, 2014 at 10:17 PM. 4/15/2014 10:17:00 PM
i fucking hate going into the verizon store. it's like the goddamn DMV. scum of the earth in there.
4/15/2014 10:23:24 PM
I think the *best* phone available right now is the HTC One M8. It's got your durability covered with a metal body.If you're not gonna be around a charger daily, and need ridiculous battery life, the Maxx or something with a removable battery would be a good option. [Edited on April 16, 2014 at 12:41 AM. Reason : If you're prone to spiking phones get an otterbox or whatever ]
4/16/2014 12:40:21 AM
16 hrs is the kind of battery life i'm talking about. don't need 2 days or anything like that.[Edited on April 16, 2014 at 1:17 AM. Reason : i want to get by only charging at night. i'm back and forth from my desk constantly at work.]
4/16/2014 1:16:50 AM
I'd give the M8 a try, and return it if it doesn't work for your uses.
4/16/2014 1:41:21 AM
is that really my best option when i can get a pair of Galaxy S5s for the same price? (my wife has a RAZR Maxx and is due an upgrade)[Edited on April 16, 2014 at 6:25 AM. Reason : nvm, i see that the One M8 is BOGO as well]
4/16/2014 6:21:47 AM
The Galaxy S5 feels flimsy and cheap as shit, the M8 feels like a solid premium phone. The M8 was also much faster when I used both, the S5 often lagged (which I read is because of the TouchWiz interface). I get about 9-10 hours on my M8 before getting the low batter notification, no idea how long it lasts after the low battery notification. I use my phone pretty frequently and always have GPS, Wifi, and BT turned on.
