i love Harrow as much as the next guybut.....skinny point guards with street ball handling skills and the ability to dunk are dime a dozen. flashy does not mean NBA-ready
4/30/2010 11:40:02 AM
assuming he has a great year...what do you think his chances are of 'testing the waters' this year?
4/30/2010 11:41:53 AM
I wouldn't waste it after his first year... but a lot depends on the NBA labor situation.I mean I guess it's possible he can have an amazing year and find himself at the end of the first round, but I think he will be the least impact of our three great freshman this year based on his size/skillset.He is the kind of guy who has the frame to put on some weight and he will need to improve his outside shot. I'd work all summer doing that -- after all, the biggest change in the body of a college bball player comes between freshman and sophomore year typically -- and see where I fall after my sophomore year.Just my opinion, though.
4/30/2010 11:44:58 AM
I think Harrow stays at least 2, maybe 3 years strictly due to his size. He doesn't have an NBA body right now and will have to get into a college weight training program from what I've heard.
4/30/2010 11:45:06 AM
We couldn't have asked for better timing to have our best recruiting class considering the looming NBA lockout. I fucking love the NBA more than anything...but if it means we keep CJL another year and Harrow and Brown if they possibly tear it up (I think Harrow is at least a 2 or 3 year guy)...then that would be awesome.I think CJL is the only who might leave after a year, and I think that would even be tough considering the team has a decent amount of other options and he won't be the focus of the offense like JJ Hickson was. He'd have to have a Marvin Williams/Brandan Wright type of year...and he won't get the exposure here that they did at UNC.
4/30/2010 11:53:50 AM
It reminds me of the Jeff Teague situation, Teague was even 2 inches taller coming out of high school. Harrow may be a tad more hyped than teague, but if we can get out of him what Wake got then i'd be thrilled.
4/30/2010 11:54:16 AM
teague's height def helped hiim
4/30/2010 11:56:07 AM
I just watched a video of Mabry out of Rocky Mount and the dude' s defensive skills are sweet as shit!!! Mays transfer already so we can give Mabry your scholarship!!!
4/30/2010 11:56:16 AM
4/30/2010 12:03:17 PM
yeah, if they were a dime a dozen you would think we wouldve recruited one by nowand wolfood, stop with the fucking exclamation points. You sound like a 13 year old girl
4/30/2010 12:14:44 PM
4/30/2010 12:15:30 PM
brandon jennings is one of the smallest starting guards in the nba and he was 6'1 170 coming out of HS (he actually hasnt put on any weight since)teague was 6'1 170 as well and came out at 6'2 ~180darren collison is 6' 160 but im guessing that played a part in him staying in college for 4 yearsryan is listed at 5'11 155 some places...he might be 6 feet nowpoint is if you can play the NBA will take you, but it wouldn't hurt if he grew another inch or two and put on 20 pounds
4/30/2010 12:41:19 PM
I think Ryan is at least 6'0 now. I've seen him listed at 6'1, but he's probably 6'0. There's about a .0000000000000000000000000000001% chance of him leaving after one year. Maybe 10% after two years (thanks to his size)Something like 70% chance Leslie is gone after one, 98% he won't make it to his junior year.I think Brown's magic number is 3 years.I believe we're waiting on Mabry's court date to see how that goes before he get an offer.
4/30/2010 1:10:51 PM
whats his court date for?
4/30/2010 1:18:40 PM
i don't think mabry commiting/signing has anything to do with waiting on mays' transfer. think of carolina's oversigned football recruiting classes and kentucky's basketball situation last year.
4/30/2010 1:21:46 PM
I don't remember completely but I think he was present at a crime or something? I don't think he was supposed to have actually done anything though
4/30/2010 1:32:59 PM
He was 8 feet away from the suspect during a shooting. Wrong place wrong time.
4/30/2010 1:34:19 PM
I was just about to bring up Brandon Jennings' skinny ass but tower beat me to the punchHarrow can't score like Jennings, that I'm aware of, but BJ should pretty much shit over any argument that he is too smallI guess Tayshaun Prince and Kevin Durant are too skinny also
4/30/2010 1:38:05 PM
4/30/2010 1:51:02 PM
the court date isnt the only thing in the way with mabry but im guessing theyre waiting it out tooi wouldnt be as optimistic with leslie. im pretty sure he has the attitude that he's 1 and done as long as he doesn't injure himself or something. he's a bit of a tweener so there's always a chance he comes back (see: aminu) but i wouldnt get your hopes up. 85%+ he's gone imoBrown's magic number is 3 in my mind too...but it's 3 years out of HS, not 3 years here. Hopefully I'm wrong
4/30/2010 1:53:46 PM
with everything that hodge has been saying about the importance of education being the first priority im hoping that foreshadows more than one year for leslie
4/30/2010 1:57:16 PM
I honestly can't believe Durant gets any rebounds, much less getting 7.6 per game.Dude can't even bench 185.
4/30/2010 1:57:49 PM
Harrow is not a dime a dozen. Yes he has a "flashy" game. But watch some of his workout video's he is training to play at an organized professional level. His speed, dribble quickness and decision making is awesome. It also looks like his shot is really improving.Due to his size he could use a few years of growing/building out his frame before NBA. Apparently he's only been dunking for a short period of time. And if you see his physical development over the past year it's pretty impressive.
4/30/2010 2:07:02 PM
Yeah Harrow I think will be the catalyst that we have sorely lacked since the days of Hodge and Anthony Grundy (oh and this is for DROD900) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just hope State's ticket office doesnt try to raise basketball season ticket prices to squeeze out extra dough from all the folks excited about next bball season (again for DROD900) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4/30/2010 2:15:07 PM
thanks!!!is english your first language? serious question. cause if its not then I'll lay off the grammar, exclamation point stuff[Edited on April 30, 2010 at 2:21 PM. Reason : asdf]
4/30/2010 2:21:04 PM
^^everyone thinks that your stupid posts and excessive use of exclamation points are fucking annoying, not just DROD900[Edited on April 30, 2010 at 2:22 PM. Reason : ^^]
4/30/2010 2:21:43 PM
Does anybody think Javi might have a problem with CJL saying, and I'm paraphrasing, "they've really only lacked a PG, now they have two coming in"kinda struck me as odd to call the current players out. I'm sure Javi realizes that Brown/Harrow are much more highly touted than him, but it's not like we lost him and Mays already..
4/30/2010 2:22:33 PM
javi seems more of a 2 guard to me...he can't create off of his own dribble like other big time PGs...I don't know, he may be more of a PG but he's definitely not as true as HarrowCJL can't help the truth[Edited on April 30, 2010 at 2:24 PM. Reason : s]
4/30/2010 2:24:16 PM
^^i kinda thought the same thing :-/also harrow could easily reach a dj augustin build by gaining about 20 lbs.[Edited on April 30, 2010 at 2:34 PM. Reason : V haha i did ]
4/30/2010 2:28:39 PM
haha, I think you just pasted something you copied from that thread in chit chat
4/30/2010 2:31:53 PM
Javi is definitely a 2 guard. But I think we'll see him stay at the 1 since he knows our offense. But having Brown and CJ coming in will give us some more ball handling skill on the floor. Although apparently Brown is capable of playing the 1-3 positions.
4/30/2010 2:37:52 PM
I'm glad to see the efforts of Coach Lowe's recruiting starting to pay off, and the sky will be the limit for us next season. Now if only, I can get off work to make it to Sammy's next Tuesday for Leslie's signing day!!!!!!
4/30/2010 2:38:47 PM
as of right now we have a great 7 player rotation and if painter/mabry(possibly) are solid contributors, then we should be set
4/30/2010 2:39:36 PM
this lineup makes me so happy:PG - HarrowSG - BrownSF - WoodPF - CJLC - Tracywith Javi, Howell, CJ Williams, Painter, Davis, Mabry all coming off the bench. There were points last season where you could argue that the five returning players I just listed as coming off of our bench wouldve been an acceptable starting five (minus Davis/Painter and add in Tracy)[Edited on April 30, 2010 at 2:41 PM. Reason : asdf]
4/30/2010 2:41:04 PM
That lineup needs experience. They combine for 4 years of experience. I'd like to see that around the halfway point of the season. But hey, im probably just stating the obvious.
4/30/2010 2:43:13 PM
Yeah, I'd like to see Painter get going a little more. He played some solid D against Henson last year at Carolina.
4/30/2010 2:44:31 PM
I feel like Brown may have to start on the bench just so we have more experience. Also, if Javi/Brown come in at the same time it's still two good ballhandlers on the court at the same time, and Brown can penetrate instead of having Javi/Wood/CJW or whoever who can't
4/30/2010 2:50:09 PM
well I wasnt saying that I would want that lineup on the floor in the first game (unless they make it very obvious to Sidney that they are the best 5 players to start the game with), I just love the look of that lineup. We have the dynamic playmakers in Harrow, Brown and CJL combined with the sharpshooter and defensive lockdown man in Wood, and then our best player and experienced team leader in Tracy. It just looks like the make-up of a team that can go really far next year. Of course this is all on paper now, and I'm sure everything wont go as I picture it in my mind, but damn it feels good to know that its possible
4/30/2010 2:59:26 PM
No way in hell that Brown doesn't start from day one.
4/30/2010 2:59:27 PM
im most excited forHarrowBrownLeslieHowellSmithThe rebounding will be actually I guess if I really want sick rebounding I'd sub javi in for one of the guards lol
4/30/2010 3:11:45 PM
Hay guize, you can't play PG in the NBA if you are short:
4/30/2010 3:13:51 PM
god damn look as his quads fucking trunks[Edited on April 30, 2010 at 3:21 PM. Reason : no [homo]]
4/30/2010 3:16:24 PM
don't be stupid. no one is saying harrow will or will not play in the nba; there's no way to know that.what we are saying is that a guy that has as much physical developing to do as harrow has won't be a one and done. and what do you know, neither was muggsy bogues, so i don't know why you tried to use him as a counter-example. you should've stuck w/ jennings, even though he is ~2" and 20lbs bigger than harrow so it's still not really a good point. ty lawson might be a better example as far as height and where harrow needs to be in weight.
4/30/2010 3:21:43 PM
from andy katz' espn blog:
4/30/2010 3:26:16 PM
i guarantee you we will see a lot of more of the harrow, brown, leslie, howell, smith lineupleslie projects as a 3 in the nba if he develops a better jumper and he'll be playing that a good bit
4/30/2010 3:36:55 PM
I was hearing that Smith was going to play a lot more at the 4 next season, but I don't see how that would work without giving Painter/Vandenberg a ton of minutes.
4/30/2010 3:52:29 PM
i'm taking tues offwhat fucking time should i get to sammy'sanyone?
4/30/2010 3:55:42 PM
6'0" 180 lbs? This kid will never make it at the next level
4/30/2010 4:00:09 PM
^ that'd be a good point if harrow were 6'0" 180lbs.let me see if i can make this more clear: HARROW DOES NOT NEED TO BE TALLER, HE NEEDS TO PUT ON WEIGHT.
