i like Double H Gunsmithing in Blanch, NC, but that might be too far for you. i had him drill and pin a FSB and barrel recently and i just did it via UPS. gets slightly more difficult if you're shipping a whole firearm.http://doublehgunsmithing.com/i've also got an old .22 rifle being Duracoated with a guy i work with, but he's in Wallace. the work of his that i've seen has looked good.

y'all spend a lot of time and money making your guns prettywhich part of your alternative lifestyle does that enhance? is it so you can shoot a home intruder and then admire the finish on your slide? or is it so you can defend America from the tyranny of the government in style?by the way, when does the revolution start? there's a nigger in office and faggots in congress, I figure the time must be approaching.

I want to buy a new rifle to target shoot at my family's mountain house and potentially to go deer hunting. Was thinking a .223 bolt-action rifle. Anyone have any suggestions?I already have a Mosin-Nagant.
2/16/2013 3:02:47 PM
Don't get a .223 if you want to deer hunt with it. Sure you can but it is unethical to me unless you are a great shot. I like the .308 personally, it is plenty to take down a deer, has great range for target shooting, and it is common. Haven't been looking for a bolt gun in a while but I would probably go with a Tikka T3 if I was to get one now.
2/16/2013 3:44:32 PM
Does anyone make a .223 with enough expansion to come close to a humane deer round? I know that the rule of thumb is a minimum of 1000 rounds of downrange energy. I deer hunt with an 06, but I would like to find some .223 rounds that would possibly turn my mini 14 into a <100 yard deer gun.
2/16/2013 4:42:56 PM
stop gutshotting your deer and .223 will be perfectly fine.

2/16/2013 5:23:32 PM
LOL, who is gut shooting deer?
2/16/2013 6:05:16 PM
God I shoot deer all the time with my .223. 55gr V-Max and it stops em dead. The buck I shot last year was a shoulder shot with 55gr V-Max at 192yrds, it ran about 10yrds and expired. Is it the "best" round? No. Will it work fine, yes. That being said, get a .308 bolt gun. Ammo isnt quite as cheap, but its a great round.
2/16/2013 6:18:10 PM
60 gr nosler partitions and 64 gr winchester softpoints (think they call them powerpoints) are ok deer bullets. Not sire about factory offerings, but both are available for handloaders.

It was taken from his CNN article on Obama needing a Plan B for gun control. Thought I would share since his followers will probably start using that as another talking point as to why we need more regulation.

i've heard heavy scopes cans strip those mounting holes that that thing mounts too... However that is on a cheaper mounting system... maybe the brownells one works better.

i'm not a fan of LER scopes on rifles. field of view blows.

That Glock makes me want to have a new project, my wallet (and wife) disagrees
2/22/2013 10:01:43 AM
So now that I have been thinking about it some more I might sell my XDM and build a Glock like that. I like the XDM but it isn't anything I am excited to go shoot. What would you say it would cost to upgrade a standard Glock to one like yours minus the paint?

Was looking on lone wolfs website and saw their side melt mount could allow for the rear sights to b behind the irons. Any thoughts on that setup? Never thought about customizing a pistol before so I have plenty of research I will need to do.
2/23/2013 2:48:41 PM
I bought an LC9 and have taken it to the range once. Can't find any place with ammo in stock so I can go again. Once I get a trigger kit it should be a good gun, until then it's annoying. Super long trigger pull. Not bad to shoot at all, even with it being small and light. Not as nice as the SO's full size sigs, but also a fraction of the price and much better for carry.

Stopped by the gun show today.Holy shit5.56 for $1/rd.308 for $1/rd (although I saw some radway green surplus for ~$0.60/rd)1000rds of 9mm for $400no thanks.
2/23/2013 4:42:29 PM
^^^, iron sights in the rear is the normal way the RMR is mounted. Relocating the rear sight is extra. With all the research I did, the consensus was that moving the rear sight forward was faster shooting. Don't know the reason, but enough people said it that I went with it. If you look at OneSourceTactical ( I think) they sell whole slides w/ rmr and their stock sight stays in the same location.

I'm trying to remove the barrel bushing from my 1911 to remove the barrel and throw everything in the ultrasonic cleaning tank...I have a match bushing in it that is very tight. I have a bushing wrench and can turn it; I have the guide rod and spring out, but I cannot get the bushing out (can only turn it).Any ideas?
2/23/2013 9:49:36 PM
maybe a stupid question, but you do know you have to turn the bushing back the other way after you remove the spring, right?
2/23/2013 10:12:38 PM
yeah...it just fits REALLY tight. There is no way in hell you'd ever budge it without a bushing wrench. It doesn't just slide out the front after you turn it back like a "normal" bushing does.I'm thinking that you need a tool or something to press/tap it out. I just threw the whole barrel/slide assembly in the tank (removed spring/guide rod stuff). That probably does OK, but I'd like to take it all the way apart for cleaning if I can.
2/23/2013 11:08:57 PM
When you turn it back, can you tap on it lightly with a wooden dowel or something to get it started?
2/23/2013 11:12:10 PM
i'd try tapping it with the plastic side of my gunsmith hammer[Edited on February 23, 2013 at 11:13 PM. Reason : ^yeah, that]
2/23/2013 11:13:06 PM
yeah, don't think i have a dowel handy. i'm still in the process of setting up my garage, unpacking tools, organizing stuff, etc. That was my best guess, too, but I was hoping someone else had dealt with the exact same problem.I'm thinking I'd have to put the dowel on the barrel throat and tap that to drive the bushing out with the barrel. Think that could screw anything up? I don't want to deform or stretch the bushing--that tight fit is part of what makes the gun such a shooter.Separate 1911 issue:I took it apart and threw it in the tank this morning before I went shooting (it had probably 1000, maybe even 1500+ rounds threw it without cleaning and it was starting to impact accuracy. I oiled it up really good last time I shot it and that helped a lot).At any rate, it was shooting significantly low and left (I'd guess 2-3" left and 3-4" low even at 7 yards). Normally this thing just blows the X-rings out. I was shooting my XDm and friend's 1911 fine, but both he and I were way low and left with mine. Anything I could have not gotten quite right in reassembly that would cause that? [Edited on February 23, 2013 at 11:28 PM. Reason : that's part of why I took it apart again tonight]
2/23/2013 11:23:01 PM
when in doubt, hit it with a fucking hammer
2/23/2013 11:27:42 PM
Nothing in assembly would cause that POI shift. Either the barrel is extremely dirty and gunked up (likely), the crown is damaged,or the barrel/link is getting hung up. I would guess that the problem will go away once it is really cleaned.
2/23/2013 11:36:12 PM
but what's weird is that it was shooting a helluva lot better when it was totally filthy than it did today after I ran it through the ultrasonic tank. Can you put it back together with the barrel link not in place correctly? Would it still function? Would that cause it to shoot low/left, you think? I didn't pay any attention to it when I was taking it back apart tonight.
2/23/2013 11:39:34 PM
I'm not a real 1911 expert, but the link pulls the barrel down to allow the slide to cycle, so I don't think the gun would function if it wasn't put back together correctly. If it is dirty, the the unlock time could change and that would cause accuracy to drop.
