So to repost for the new page:Got to be N.C Festival. 12:30 by the waterfall in front of Dorton. Post or PM if you can make it. Myself Nighthawk and Igor will definitely be there. And I know there are several photographers on this board in the Raleigh area that should be able to make it. Post or PM if you want to join us. I can't speak for the users above but I will offer my limited knowledge to guide in creating better photography

Looking forward to meeting you guys! Wrapped up sorting through yesterdays photo session and gonna go get rested for tomorrow
5/18/2012 11:55:05 PM
If any of ya'll are checking in, I am heading out now with the boys. Checked the schedule and definitely interested in going to the tractor pull and maybe shoot the roller girls too. My sons will want to hit the petting zoo and some of the other kiddie stuff, but I think it will be a great time. If anybody is interested, we should be meeting at the fountain at Dorton at 12:30.
5/19/2012 10:29:16 AM

Had a good time meeting up with Mtan Man214 and Igor. Did a lot of walking around shooting, then shot the Roller Derby Expo, and also did some shooting at the tractor pull. Had a good time, and hope we can get together with more folks next time.Additionally Mtan Man214 and myself are planning to hit up the Capital City Camera Club on Monday night. Anybody else that wants to is welcome to join us. We have never been before, but might be a chance to dovetail some TWW group activities into CCCC activities that they have planned.

Had a great time today. I wish I could have stuck around for the tractor pull, I peaked at it while leaving and it looked like a lot of fun.I had some time to edit after drinks with friends and getting the kid to sleep. With the opportunities that were out there today I felt a little disappointed with what I ended up with, I used the crop tool more than I'd like.
5/20/2012 12:18:25 AM
Great pics, Mtn Man! I really like te lama, the ice cream cone, and the one whe girl is getting stomped in a rollerskater purée. I'll sort through my stash tomorrow and see what I ended up with.

Sorry they are so big. Flickr was being a bitch this morning trying to upload, so I just put them on Facebook instead. Did not have the option to choose the size to post like Flickr gives you.

I usually resize straight from Lightroom cause FB resizer sometimes foobars the pictures pretty noticeably (although the latest version is much better thatn what it used to be)Here are some of my picsHere is the full set from this event: http://www.flickr.com/photos/igordmitry/sets/72157629831585046/

^ If you're going to pay for it, sure. I'll go dig up my Canon Elan 7ne.
5/21/2012 5:24:50 PM
We would not want to anger the God, would we? I am halfway through a roll of b&w 35mm film, maybe i'll get through it by end of the month. Not too many things out there that I really would like to shoot in b&w.
5/21/2012 10:00:59 PM
I love Dorton Arena. we should have a throwback bball game there every once in a blue moon
5/21/2012 10:08:05 PM
If God is buying us film & processing I'll take some 120 to play with.
5/21/2012 10:15:02 PM
I have a couple of rolls of 120 you can have, Mtan Man214. Was gonna get me a Mamiya 645 with some lenses, but then the seller went MIA. Now I got other priorities and I barely even shoot with my 35mm anymore. So no medium format for me for now.[Edited on May 21, 2012 at 10:57 PM. Crappy lighting, but found a pretty canebrake as two motorists stopped for it to shoo it out of the road.

^im pretty sure you see more snakes in one week than I have seen in my entire life Here are some shots from today. Friend of mine is a fitness trainer and is working on some deal with Under Armour, so he asked me to do a few shots of his routines. I decided that indoor would look too stuffy and overcrowded, so I thought of a couple of outdoor spots in the neighbourhood. Japanese tourists were slowing down in their coach buses, thinking that we were looking for a tow, as we were sitting on the side of the road at dusk in a beatup old Taurus, holding that that big ole rope. Another highlight of the day were a group of girls doing yoga in the same park, led by a blond eastern european bobmbshell. Downward dog like whoa![Edited on May 22, 2012 at 1:57 AM. Reason : .]

Igor Great shots. I like how the light fades into dark towards the end of the shoot. Gives me the impression this guy never stops working out.And I can use the 120, it'll go into my super hipster Holga though. Maybe we can get another group shoot together and hand off then. Also, Nighthawk and I went to the Club meeting last night and were a little disappointed. It seems less like a group of serious amateurs and semi-professionals, and more like a group of retirees who get together twice a month. They do have some pretty cool connections to Preservation NC, and a few other historic homes/buildings groups through volunteer work. Also, the one thing that made it worthwhile to attend the meeting was to learn that you can take deductions for "donated" photos. So if you do some photography work for a 501-c-3 and you give them the image rights, you can then deduct that on your taxes. You can deduct up to $5,000 without needing an appraisal. The guy who presented this had done his homework but was not a tax attorney, cpa, etc. so I will get a second opinion from someone who is more familiar with the tax code before trying it. But it's worth getting documentation from any pro-bono work I can pick up.An example as I understood it: if you are out with friends at a 5k for Susam G Komen (a 501-c-3 non-profit group) and you grab a bunch of images, you can then donate them to SGK at a set value per image based on what you and they feels they're worth (say $25). If you donate 50 images, that's $1,250 that you can claim as a deduction.
5/22/2012 8:30:24 AM
^Yes indeed. I will echo his sentiments on the Capital City Camera Club. They were a nice enough group, but it was much more a retiree camera club. I think there may have been one other person in the room under 60. And like Mtan Man214 said, I did not know about the donating photos for a tax deduction either. The president of the club said he had done it for 4 years with no problem. He was no tax professional, but his CPA handled it for him. The biggest issue is that you have to get a signed document stating that you provided pro bono work for the non-profit in order to use this deduction. I can't just say I donated shots to a couple different groups and value them at what I want. But if you are shooting for your church, civic group, etc. then you could likely qualify. I was interested in this as I shoot for my sons local Cub Scout pack and was doing it with no final motives. However I might now be able to start deducting this. So that part was interesting, but I think I am going to continue looking for another group to shoot with.Maybe the group we should check out next would be the Triangle Photography Club. It looks like they mainly do everything online, which is fine with me, but they seem to plan frequent outings that have pretty good attendance numbers. I think this might be more in line with what I would like personally, and we could totally coordinate this with meetups for TWW members. Any thoughts?http://www.meetup.com/Triangle-Photography-Club/Also Raleigh Outdoor Photography Club might be another option:http://www.meetup.com/ROPClub/[Edited on May 22, 2012 at 9:18 AM. Reason : ]

^ I definitely will be checking out both of those. There's also Professional Photographers of NC http://www.ppofnc.com/ and Sportsshooter http://www.sportsshooter.com/I know that Sportsshooter is pretty selective about membership, though I don't see why anyone that's posted here should have a problem. I'm not so sure about PPoNC.
5/22/2012 9:27:58 AM
^I know a couple of pro shooters from back home that are/were members of PPNC and go to their big trade show/convention every year. The biggest thing that will keep scrubs out of that is the steep dues, which are $225/year for active and $190/year for aspiring, as well as a $25/initiation fee. Also for an active member you have to provide your business info, tax ID and privilege number. I guess they figure if you have gone through all of that and want to give them $250, you are probably not some scrubs who just bought a T2i and thinks you are now the shit.[Edited on May 22, 2012 at 10:14 AM. ^I plan on contacting them soon because I'd like to know what all that $190 pays for. My involvement in trade groups in the past has shown me that some just take your money and allow you to use their brand, while others are more involved and work as an educational and networking center for their members.I've been working on getting my archives in order and my portfolio up to date. I ran across this story on a hang gliding class I did on a training retreat to Manteo a few years ago. I know it's old, but these photos have never seen the light of day and thought they deserved a fair viewing.

Those are pretty neat. I have gotten my catalog fairly well organized, but I need to start going through and deleting crap and tagging/editing good shots. Probably have quite a few that have never been shared but are pretty decent as well. Also just thought I'd let you know that I got accepted into ROPClub and joined the Triangle Photography Club. ROPClub seems to do some regular meetings at the Cary library. Next is June 6th and they post the lectures on their Youtube page, so we can get an idea what the meetings are like. Here is the info if you are interested:http://www.youtube.com/user/ROPClub#g/uLet me know if you join and might want to check that one out.

^^^^Good God Almighty! I processed the digital files in Photoshop to show the Alpha layer, which revealed your true likeness. You should have shot it on film, which is impervious to my malevolent photo editing practices and would not allow such blasphemy. Otherwise, great self-portraits,[Edited on May 24, 2012 at 10:51 AM. I was shooting at an auto shop and this tow truck guy rolled by to drop off a car. He looked like a guy that would tow your car from a guest parking spot at your girlfriend's apartment complex, so I figured I'll portray the guy in a gritty, non-triple-A way.[Edited on May 24, 2012 at 2:25 PM.
