Not to belabor the point but if that video started 3 seconds earlier youd have seen Warren do a scissor kick jump and land without dribbling. It was a bad no call after a bad no call.

Worst was Warrens lane jumper at end of regulation where his entire arm got hit.

Waking up this morning makes me realize just how sad being a State fan has really made me. Several years ago I would have been cussing at the TV, throwing things, waking up this morning super pissed off.

Instead, when warren got fouled in OT with 7 seconds left I was upset and my fiance couldn't figure out why. I said well it looks bad, but that just won them the game it's over. She didn't understand because she hasn't watched nearly as many games as I have over the years. I said well if we actually got the last shot at worst we go to double OT. As it stands this is what's gonna happen, TJ is gonna make 1/2 and then Paige is going to go the length of the floor and get a layup at the buzzer. She was like no he will make both dont worry! I said he really wont, but lets say he does... then Paige is gonna dribble up the floor we wont guard him and he will hit a wide open 3 at the buzzer same result. It's gonna happen thats just how it goes no doubt in my mind.

Welp.

Didn't even bother me once it happened just turned the TV off went upstairs and got ready for bed. Woke up this morning not even worried about it. Not sure whether to be happy I have finally reached this point so it stops bothering me, or sad that the results have caused me to be this way.

I really don't like to complain about officiating, and while I don't think the officiating was great, I can't really blame the loss on the refs.

But TJ Warren, for being one of the best players in the conference, rarely gets the benefit of the doubt from the refs. The no foul at the end of regulation on his shot (that resulted in Lewis fouling Paige), the no foul on McAdoo that resulted in the ball going out of bounds off State. And a player being double teamed and hacked loses the ball...and he's the last to touch it? Maybe it did go off Warren, in fact it probably did. But it only went off Warren because he was smacked on the arms multiple times.

Usually the best players in the conference might get the benefit of the doubt. But whatever. Fuck UNC.

And UNC fouling Warren with 7 seconds left was about the worst thing that could've happened there aside from a turnover.

And we probably should've used a timeout when Warren was trapped. Since it was on the opposite end from the bench, I'm guessing that was more on the players than the staff not getting that called. But hindsight is 20/20 there

Man I feel just like Doss2k. In the past I would have lost my shit about this but you knew the game was done after Warren missed that first free throw. After the winning shot I also just turned the TV off and finished my assignments for the night. This morning is just kinda what the fuck ever. This is just part of being a State fan. Being doing it for a long time at this point.

While they have a valid point, I'm dreading hearing all the ignorant bitter state fans at school today bitching about the refs (again) almost as much as hearing the unc fans.

Its sadly funny to me that everyone last year talked about how CJ Leslie never gets the benefit of the doubt on foul calls cause he would bitch and moan to the refs all game looking for the call.

Well, TJ Warren is the complete opposite of CJ Leslie, he doesnt bitch and moan, he actually seems overly courteous to the refs at times. He still doesnt get the benefit of the doubt on foul calls, ever. I don't recall another ACC POY caliber player who gets treated like a goonish benchwarmer more than him. He literally is putting up stellar numbers this year despite sitting out extended stretches of nearly every game due to foul trouble.

Sure you could argue whether or not we truly played our best games vs UNC 2 and 3 years ago (Duke game last year, Georgetown game and a couple others the prior), but it's worth noting that Gott has had the guys fired up to play UNC. We still seem to forget out to play basketball in Chapel Hill. But in Raleigh (and then in Gott's first year in the ACCT) we have been ready to play. Seemed to know the moment and rise to the occasion. Gotta give Gott credit for having them ready to play in that sense.

Yep. We aren't asking for refs to call PERFECT games. We are asking for CONSISTENT games.

It's funny (infuriating) how on TJ's turnover they do NOT call what they would normally call in those situations (and should have)- AN OBVIOUS FOUL.

Yet with the TJ reach-in "foul" (that wasn't...and was actually a completely clean steal) they DO CALL what they would normally expect to call in those situations.

It's not just that the refs miss calls (that's expected). It's not even that they are just inconsistent! (not expected) It's that those inconsistencies happen to be in the closing seconds, on deciding plays, that benefit UNC and decimate us (wholly unacceptable).

its definitely a foul on McAdoo there, I dont know how anyone can argue otherwise. Especially when you see the play in motion, he's really mugging him. oh well. I was sure that the refs would give us a quick makeup call after watching the replay on the monitor to determine who the ball went out of bounds on.

also, I dont have any problem with what Paige or Meeks did in that gif above, even if it was directed at our fans. I agree with NyM about Paige

You may have never seen a tie up with a jump ball called, but there's generally more contact then just with the ball. That said, it was clearly a foul and blown call. My point was just that that is not the pic to use to show the foul; right before that JMM grabbed his wrist, which would.

from a different perspective, the one call I took real issue with was that no call against warren right before the tyler lewis foul, I thought the calls pretty much evened out besides that one, it's tough not to be able to get those calls so I was going for state during overtime

on the plus side I don't think the refs were a factor in overtime and they did have that desperate make up call to force overtime at least

I was in the student section under the basket first five rows for every home game last year (except Miami). CJ got clobbered game in and game out and the refs did nothing but wait for him to get frustrated and T him up. The same thing is happening to TJ this year and it is absolute bullshit.

It makes no sense that WE are always the ones getting screwed. It seems like the type of thing where you keep telling yourself its perspective and everyone feels like they are screwed but he more it happens the more you realize WE are indeed the ones always on the bad end.

We have lost 3 acc games on clearly poor officiating. We've only had 1 win that came down to the last play so even if the other team got screwed, we would be a probably tournament team if every game was fair.

No matter the players, sport or coach, we get cheated all the time. Things that never happen to other teams happen to us.

It reminds me of the touchdown we had stolen against Clemson and makes me wonder how many games we lose as an indirect result of being cheated because our players become discouraged and feel powerless after it happens so often?

Why would anyone even try to contest a Paige drive on the last play after UNC got free throws for being touched the whole 2nd half?

that's a lame attitude. Never allow easy points in the paint, especially that late in the game. Need some 90's Pacers v Knicks levels of hate. That kid driving to the lane, foul him as hard as you can possibly foul anyone and let him earn it at the line. swat down as hard as you can, get some ball and finish through his arms, drive him to the ground. Make is a clean (non flagrant) foul, but foul hard. Got some pussies in the paint man.
