The London Olympics was the first in a long time that a GBR team competed in soccer. England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland are all firm in that soccer and rugby competitions are each separate home nation. The other home nations wanted a written agreement that FIFA/UEFA wouldn't push for a GBR team in the World Cup and Euro.
6/19/2014 3:41:05 PM
The british and irish lions only compete every 4 years if I remember correctly (in rugby)
6/19/2014 3:44:32 PM
Bad luck for England again
6/19/2014 3:48:04 PM
England should bring on Henderson. I mean he can't be playing, can he?Rooney can't finish from six inches right now. He's a beaten down man.Like a draw in this one still..
6/19/2014 3:48:33 PM
England lose and still are mathematically in with a chance, correct?
6/19/2014 3:54:33 PM
^it's possible. Extremely unlikely though. Italy would need to beat Costa Rica and Uruguay, then England would need to beat Costa Rica by a large goal differential.
6/19/2014 3:58:12 PM
ha Nym hating on Liverpool players never gets old for you does it?
6/19/2014 4:00:43 PM
Wow, wtf Rooney!
6/19/2014 4:11:12 PM

6/19/2014 4:41:58 PM
Perfect touch from Stevie G on that goal.
6/19/2014 4:43:44 PM
Gerrard's assist was so nice[Edited on June 19, 2014 at 4:44 PM. Reason : England can't afford to slip up now]
6/19/2014 4:44:03 PM
At least the Gerrard/Lampard era is over. Whole lot of not winning.
6/19/2014 4:47:24 PM
Hate to say it, but this team needed John Terry.
6/19/2014 4:49:19 PM
That and a legit DM. Gerrard ain't it and it causes them to have no choice but to use Henderson to cover Gerrards lack of legs. Works at Pool because Suarez opens everything up and Coutino is so creative. Doesn't work for England.
6/19/2014 4:54:17 PM
Yep. Too many Liverpool players. Needed some more English Arsenal players.
6/19/2014 4:54:44 PM

Gotta love being an N.C. State and England fan.... same shit, different time of the year.
6/19/2014 5:19:37 PM
^You said it. Add Tottenham fan to that and you have the trifecta of disappointment.
6/19/2014 5:22:54 PM
Newcastle/Tottenham have got to be the most heartbreaking teams to support in the PL

Fun watching the best player in the worlds do hhis thing today. Noticed Hodgson trying to take off the black players to remove Suarez's motivation
6/19/2014 9:21:11 PM
There are some straight garbage teams this year. Cameroon, Japan, Greece, Iran, Nigeria, Honduras go home please. I do have to give props to the Aussies. They suck but at least they played hard.[Edited on June 19, 2014 at 9:56 PM. Reason : ]
6/19/2014 9:56:24 PM
I interesting you named 3 teams that have only played 1 game, 2 of which were against each other and shat on Australia but didn't mention Spain[Edited on June 19, 2014 at 10:25 PM. Reason : Or Englandor Portugal ]
6/19/2014 10:24:16 PM
It is very likely Italy wins out and england beats the shot out of cr.
6/19/2014 10:36:23 PM
^^^Did you expect anything else from those 6 teams?
6/19/2014 10:42:02 PM
Well the English speaking world is down to one contender.
6/19/2014 10:53:10 PM
WHO THE FUCK CARES WHAT LANGUAGE PEOPLE SPEAK
6/19/2014 11:40:21 PM
^Well most people in America who watch soccer seem to like the EPL, Celtic, US national team, and the English national team more than anything else. I work with people from El Salvador and Columbia. They're all cheering for the Spanish speaking nations from Central and South America. One of the black guys I work with wanted to know if Africa has a team in the World Cup because he will cheer for them then. People seem to like to pull for the teams that look and sound like them. We are pretty much the English speaking worlds last chance. I'm pulling for Germany when they aren't playing the USA though. About 4, or 5 generations ago my family tree was living there.
6/20/2014 12:05:00 AM
The United States of America does not have an official language. There are 29 languages that are primary to populations of 100,000 or more in the US.
6/20/2014 3:53:00 AM
At one point the USA was the second largest Spanish speaking country, now I think that it is third (behind Mexico and Colombia).

Talking about the England "end of an era" got me thinking about Spain's similar position. This is the end of the Xavi/Iniesta era for them. Good thing for them there is a cornucopia of talent waiting in the wings. Bosque just needs start capping these kids the next two years regardless of result. I'd love to see them play more direct in the future as well. The book is out on how to defeat Tika Taka. It's a pussy way to play the game.
