Do you think Calvin Johnson would trade his record for a Super Bowl Ring this year or any other year for that matter?

Do Calvin Johnson and Steven Jackson call to console each other after each season?

So you guys still think Eli Manning is elite and better than Romo?

One has a 95 career passer rating and one has an 82. Guess which is which?

The NFL has to fix the defenseless receiver rule. It's enforced way too broadly.

Oh yeah the Trent Dilfer>Dan Marino argument.

That means Eli is better than Brees, Peyton, Rodgers, Favre, etc.

405/611 66.2% 4685 yards 26 TDs 16 INTs (sacked 32 times)

before seeing those stats i'd say Romo is having a better season this year

dunno what that has to do with each QB's career though

^prior to this season, Romo's record in December has been garbage, and obviously worse in January...forgive me if I put more stock in what players do in winter than autumn

Romo has always put up good numbers. The Cowboys just don't win...especially the big games. He'll have another chance this weekend against my Redskins, and I hope he fails.

Peterson 54 so far, needs 208 total

Packers are gonna load the box but he's just too good

of course he could bust for a 190 yard game and still not pass Dickerson

Nah, you cant really justify giving any RB the MVP. It's one of the least important positions on the field and even the great ones don't differentiate themselves by a HUGE amount from other backs... hell Spiller and Lynch are both right there with Peterson this year and no one would even consider them MVP candidates. Peterson doesn't make plays in the passing game so his total yards aren't nearly as impressive as his rushing totals alone.

His rushing totals are amazing this year and his comeback story is truly ludicrous. But giving the MVP based on a comeback story is just dumb. It should go to the best player in the game and this year thats Tom Brady. They'll give it to Peyton because of the comeback story, but at least he's the 2nd best candidate.

Sucks too because I'd win $650 if Brady won the MVP.

you're really gonna throw Spiller in with ADP and Lynch?

Lynch has arguably been just as beast, but he's also had a legit QB and awesome defense supporting his team

the Vikings have pretty much been all Peterson, and he is gonna make or break their playoff chances

if you define "Most Valuable Player" as "best player" then maybe ADP shouldn't win, but if you define it as player most valuable to his team, and Minnesota beats Green Bay today and makes the playoffs, I don't see how you can't give it to Peterson

Spiller stepped in for an injured Fred Jackson and played well but he's not even a top-5 running back this season

Spiller has been pretty incredible this year. Much higher DVOA and success rate than Peterson.

http://footballoutsiders.com/stats/rb2012

That chart is really telling. Peterson's DYAR is like 360. That's like 20-25 yards a game extra benefit you get by having the best running back in the league. Tom Brady's will be over 2,000 after today's game.

It should be obvious that having a great QB is much more important than a great RB. The difference is that there are a ton of great athletes who play running back effectively. There are only a few people in the entire world with the skill level to play QB effectively. So the ones who do are worth a fortune.

It's kinda like centers vs PG in basketball or lightweight vs heavyweight in UFC. There is a short supply of tall people in the world. Finding skill amongst the rare makes them inherently much more valuable.

Peterson and Lynch both have him by over 400 effective yards

I don't think MVP should be limited to winning teams, but Spiller isn't even in the MVP conversation

Peterson is 140 yards from the all-time single season rushing record...ie a better rushing season than Dickerson, OJ, Sweetness, Barry, Sayers, etc etc etc

Yes, Peterson is having a terrific season. I don't disagree that he's the best running back.

It's just that it's one of the least important positions on the field. Peterson isn't the MVP of the league for the same reason Ed Reed isn't an MVP.

JJ Watt is significantly more valuable than Adrian Peterson. I actually wouldn't even want Adrian Peterson on my team because he's overpaid by a staggering amount.

The Patriots have the right idea. Never pay a running back, they aren't worth nearly the premium they command. Spend the money on important positions like QB.

the Pats have Brady though, and throw it all over the yard, so they don't need a stud running back...guys like Ridley or Law Firm or Dillon can do fine

ADP has been singlehandedly carrying the Vikings this year, just like Brady has been carrying the Pats

you can't make a blanket statement like "RBs arent as important as QBs" when on a team like Minnesota, he's MORE important than Ponder

Calvin Johnson is clearly more valuable than Adrian Peterson. Not sure why he isn't getting MVP love from the media.

Not that he should get it. The reality is in today's NFL no one should ever get the MVP except a QB. They've always mattered a lot, but now they are so far and away the most important position on the field.

DE being #2 obviously, pass rushing has become inherently more valuable as well in this era.
