Are those miles from the suntrust?
11/14/2013 7:04:30 AM
^^ now answer my question on the last page about the BoA card.ALSO I have a girlfriend who is interested in getting her first "rewards" card (to my prodding - all she uses right now is a debit and SOMETIMES a crappy 5/3 MC). Not sure where I should lead her.
11/14/2013 2:47:29 PM
^^ About half^ 20% return is good, but I rarely bother with any offers <$200
11/14/2013 2:52:16 PM
Costco Amex is always a good recommendation (if you shop at Costco). It's a free Amex. If you want a cash back card. For points the Chase Sapphire Preferred card is a good all round beginner points card. Hard to beat it.
11/14/2013 2:59:10 PM
^^Is that just cause you use Suntrust Debit a lot - or they have really good promotional offers?
11/14/2013 3:57:11 PM
They had a 30K offer when I first got the card. Not the best out there by far, but one of the few debit reward cards left out there.
11/14/2013 3:58:45 PM
^^^^^Don't waste a credit card on a measly $100 back.
11/14/2013 4:09:27 PM
Got four new cards this week. Must not screw up spending requirements.......
11/14/2013 5:25:31 PM
^^I thought the other bennies were decent, but I'm open to suggestions of other current good offers for general spending (I currently use my delta AMEX for nearly everything I can, but I'm realizing that I could be getting rewarded much more handsomely elsewhere and just keep that for the Delta benefits)
11/14/2013 6:40:18 PM
Delta miles suck. I only accrue them via the debit card.
11/14/2013 6:51:28 PM
So I got the denial for my Southwest Business card I knew was coming. I'm hoping I can call the Chase redemption line and reallocate some credit limits to this new card...but it's not looking good. What do you all think? Any strategies you care to share?
11/14/2013 11:41:29 PM
^wtf card is that?? Sign me up plz
11/14/2013 11:54:20 PM

11/15/2013 12:37:51 AM
^^lol I have you jackwagon, I thought he was referring to something specific
11/15/2013 1:38:01 AM
I was denied the Southwest business card
11/15/2013 9:10:35 AM
^Ouch. Do you have a business?^^^ - and what did you tell them your business does?
11/15/2013 9:15:59 AM
I do not technically have a business...the reason I was denied was because I already have 2 other business cards, 1 of which is with Chase already...so I don't think they were buying my storyI'll apply again next time after I close a couple cards and get the pass...I just won't have it for the maximum amount of time
11/15/2013 9:45:34 AM
Eh, I have 6 business cards, 3 with chase.^^ Software Consulting
11/15/2013 10:29:07 AM
What did you tell them your business's income was?Though in the end, I probably don't have much of a chance here. I got the legendary trifecta when they listed the reasons for denial: Too many recent requests for credit, Not enough time has passed since the last account you opened with us, and You already have the maximum amount of credit we can offer you. I can mitigate the last one by moving some credit lines around, but I can't really do much about the first two
11/15/2013 10:34:29 AM
$500

Chase Sapphire Preferred, 50k UR Points + 5K for authorized user, $3k spend/3 months, no annual fee first year.https://creditcards.chase.com/credit-cards/sapphire-preferred-card.aspx?CELL=63WS&inkcashsplit=1&inkplussplit=1&sapphireprefsplit=4
11/18/2013 3:05:07 PM
That's a good offer...many 50k Chase offers involve a $5k spend, and Chase UR points are quite valuable.
11/18/2013 3:08:15 PM
I've got a little over 50k Amex points, but it seems impossible to use Delta miles and get a good rate (I've got 45k of those in addition). Should I just sell my Amex points? I saw one site that would start at $650 for them...anyone gotten better or know of a better way to use them than Delta...or know a good way to use them on Delta?
11/18/2013 3:19:56 PM
I got $875 for 50k Amex points from Bruce
11/18/2013 3:35:43 PM
^ was that his initial offer?I assume that's pre-Paypal fees too right?
11/18/2013 3:40:02 PM
What do AMEX pts have to do with Delta miles?
11/18/2013 3:43:53 PM
Yes Pre-paypal. His initial offer was like $840
11/18/2013 3:44:15 PM
$875 is pretty good...I'll probably just do thatAmex points can transfer to Delta miles...there aren't very many other options that are things I do/would use, so that's why I mention Delta
11/18/2013 4:50:40 PM
Thinking about trying Bruce after seeing all the recs on here. I've got Delta, Amex, and Marriott points to sell. How exactly does the process work? Can somebody please pm me with a quick run through and your name if a referral is still something he does?
11/18/2013 4:59:00 PM
just applied and was accepted for the Chase Sapphire Preferred. I need to add reminders to my calendars on when to cancel these things
11/18/2013 5:04:40 PM
^^ PM sent
11/18/2013 5:09:59 PM
Yeah, cal reminders are a must, but I just use google docs now so I can more easily see things from an overhead view.
11/18/2013 5:32:22 PM
Bruce offered me $825 for 57k...I told him I read someone had gotten $875 for 50k and asked for the same rate...he responded that he couldn't do that and that rate didn't come from himmaybe I'm talking to the wrong Bruce? This is info@buyingmiles.net
11/19/2013 12:45:44 PM
I got $1100 from Bruce for 80K fwiw
11/19/2013 1:13:38 PM
back in May I sold him 51k AMEX for $635. Guess I got ripped huh?]
11/19/2013 1:19:55 PM
Sorry went back through emails - final offer from him was $840 for 55k^No, I just think he is more desperate now. I wonder if there wasn't a huge supply of those points at the time due to that great Amex Gold card[Edited on November 19, 2013 at 1:56 PM. Reason : ]
11/19/2013 1:55:55 PM
Ha...he still says that wasn't him and then offered me less than he started with...I think I must be annoying him...oh well, I'm in no hurry to get rid of them
11/19/2013 3:10:55 PM
So without going back through this thread, can someone explain to me who Bruce is and how he can buy your points?
11/19/2013 4:04:19 PM
He is just a regular person, but on the internet, he puts on his robe and wizard hat and sells your points to travel agencies for more than he paid you (I believe that's what he does with them at least)He buys them by putting money in your paypal, and then going in and transferring your points to his account
11/19/2013 4:12:07 PM
^^^It was definitely him - I also caught him in a period of desperation though. He told me he needed the Amex points by end of day[Edited on November 19, 2013 at 4:35 PM. Reason : ]
11/19/2013 4:35:18 PM
^^No. He can't always transfers - sometimes he has to book out of your account. Also - i think he does a lot of the booking and selling himself
11/19/2013 4:36:25 PM
So he books a ticket right from your account for someone else? Has he done that in your account?
11/19/2013 4:41:09 PM
Probably depends. When I sold my Chase UR points, he just had me transfer the points to two random people's United frequent flyer accounts.]
11/19/2013 4:48:22 PM
No the points just get transferred, he doesn't book tickets.
11/19/2013 4:52:52 PM
I'd love to see what value he's getting out of the points
11/19/2013 4:53:17 PM
probably a decent return. Believe sellmyrewards offered me 1.6c/pt and they sell them for 2.3c/pt
11/19/2013 5:01:36 PM
He will any do that with any account that costs money to transfer. I'm pretty sure he booked out of my AA account[Edited on November 19, 2013 at 5:03 PM. Reason : ]

I'm tossing around the idea of upgrading my mileage plus visa to the mileage plus explorer card. Do any of you know if a straight upgrade will net the same initial bonus (30k miles i believe) as a new signup?
