So does the Amendment get automatically put on the books? Or is there any kind of challenge period?

Sad thing is the people who propose this bill are probably more likely to get caught fucking some other dude at a truck stop then those voting against it. Including the out of the closet homosexuals.

That's a lie. I've met a lot of educated people that seem to think they know everything and are twenty times more bigoted than the uneducated. Knowledge can close your mind just as not knowing any better can.

And black people probably didn't come out in full. Proof? Obama only has 79% of the Dem vote. The other 20% voted no preference.

Bottom line for me is that the constitution should protect our rights, not take them away.

Can we go ahead and outlaw divorce now too?

Marriage between man and woman is the only Domestic legal union recognized. Therefore the rights of all other legal unions have been stripped

He explicitly says the rights of a legal union, not the rights of an individual. The ability to do anything that have you quoted has nothing to do with legal benefits given through a recognized union.

So you are saying there are no legal rights when you get married? Damn, so when you get married you stay on your own insurance, you can't get on your spouses. Just one example ass

benefits. not rights. note the difference. and, much of what you just alluded to are a matter of private contracts. you know, the kinds of things that are NOT restricted by this amendment

Quote :

key word being "benefits." I get a driver's license and I now have the benefit of being able to drive on gov't roads. I could always drive before I got the license; just not on gov't funded roads.

Rights - benefits, what's the difference?

"In 1997, we issued a report identifying 1,049 federal statutory provisions classified to the United States Code in which benefits, rights, and privileges are contingent on marital status or in which marital status is a factor."

Hey, at least our intolerance got us some pub on the front page of CNN!!!

Quote :
"Tami Fitzgerald, the head of Vote for Marriage NC, said she had been confident that "the people of North Carolina would rise up and vote to keep the opposition from redefining traditional marriage.

"We are not anti-gay, we are pro-marriage," she said. "And the point -- the whole point -- is simply that you don't rewrite the nature of God's design for marriage based on the demands of a group of adults.""

I don't understand this quote. Were "the gays" railroading a law through that redefined traditional marriage? Did I completely misunderstand what this amendment was?

I would like to introduce the nc bill of rights.

#1 the government shall not fuck with anyone's rights to do anything that doesn't physically harm another person or their property.

/ bill of rights take your bigotry elsewhere with your. We have the right to oppress homosexuals bull shit.

Hey next year lets make them count as a fraction of a person when they vote
And after that we can have them wear pretty rainbows on thier clothing
Ooooh ooooh then we can have homosexual retreats at camps you know away from the rest of us.

Jesus this really does embarass me an yes i am refering to this as the "gateway drug" of oppressive behavior.

"I love how the fact that I disagree with same sex marriage and heterosexual couples living together outside of marriage makes me intolerant. I do not believe that supporting Amendment One is me forcing my beliefs upon others, I simply think that the title of "Married" should only exist between a man and a woman. I believe common law marriage is a farce. If you want the benefits of a married couple, grow a pair, commit to your woman, and marry her. Set an example for the children that you bore outside of marriage and commit to your mate. Show them what true love stands for, and guess what, leaving yourself the ability to leave at any moment without reprisal is not that.

This is not a gay issue. This is not an intolerance issue. This is not a civil rights issue. This is a statement of definition of what marriage is and should be.

In the philosophical words of Beyonce, "Cause if you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it."

Good job North Carolina."

Whether it's black Democrats or poor Democrats...why are you guys so eager to pass this off on Democrats???

And I've already mentioned that black people barely vote.

I don't suppose I'm shocking anybody when I say that poor people barely vote either.

You guys seriously think they came out for the primaries?

Actually, domestic unions are a right. It takes away a LOT of rights. If your partner is in the hospital, you'd no longer have the legal right to make decisions on their behalf. If your partner dies unexpectedly, you are no longer recognized as a family member or spouse in dealing with the Estate.

There's no way to get a single insurance policy of any sort without going to another state to establish a civil union.

Not to mention there's now no way to file taxes jointly, which means fewer deductions and more taxes paid for homosexuals (potentially).

While I am in a heterosexual marriage, I am not above considering how this could impact my own life. I believe that this is just one more step that furthers the reach of our government. I believe that in the long run that this amendment could impact industry and jobs in our state. I also believe that the amendment could impact my loved ones who are gay, loved ones who are in non-traditional heterosexual relationships, and most importantly, my children who have yet to define their sexuality.

Quote :
"Found this on CNN.com:

*Tami Fitzgerald, the head of Vote for Marriage NC, said she had been confident that "the people of North Carolina would rise up and vote to keep the opposition from redefining traditional marriage.*

Excuse me, Tami, but YOU were the one trying to redefine what it means to be human. Gay marriage was already not recognized in the state, no one was trying to even touch the definition of marriage. I don't understand how someone else's love was hurting your life so much."
