For this page:Good article about Howell's Beard Gang and how the sale of the shirts help fund the Make-A-Wish foundation. One of Howell's younger sisters died in a car wreck, he has her name and passing date tatooed on his arm.http://www.technicianonline.com/sports/howell-s-beard-makes-wishes-come-true-1.2693550

http://www.theacc.com/genrel/020312aaa.htmlI was hoping with a 14 team conf that things would shift in Bball to where we play both UNC and Duke twice. What is this bullshit. we are not playing Duke or UNC twice a year in Bball.WTF ACC. ever heard of the BIG 4! so pissed right now. Some people may say "hey we have an easier schedule now we don't have to play them twice" FUCK THAT NOISE!
2/3/2012 12:21:04 PM
this scheduling is bullshit.

go here: message_topic.aspx?topic=379858&page=2#15220645, old thread seems appropriate for this.

Fuck the ACC

While it does suck not to play UNC twice, it also sucks getting embarrassed everytime we play them.We could use a few years of a break to try to rebuild our program with an easier schedule. Once we get 16 teams maybe they'll do the separate divisions and it will work itself out a little better.
2/3/2012 1:31:51 PM
yea exactly. we need to take care of our business and get back on top.i'd love a Big Four pod, but that's not going to happen. i'm actually pessimistic about being in a division with UNC ever again.
2/3/2012 1:35:44 PM
^This.

Love/hate this weak ACC. We are 6-3 because of it. But at the same time, losing ground in the RPI, Pom, and Sagarin even when we win. Dropped from 56 to 60 to 64 after 2 ACC wins.
2/5/2012 9:13:16 PM
Corchiani just said on Twitter that Madonna is a big NCSU hoops fan. What am I missing here?
2/5/2012 10:15:34 PM
Yeah but if the teams were any better we couldn't beat them.We only beat bad teams, can't beat the good ones bc we don't play any defense
2/5/2012 10:16:32 PM
i personally like checking Kenpom, Realtimerpi and Sagarin to see how those particular imperfect ratings stack up compared to one another (by themselves they're plain stupid until you get at least a month into the season)But the only thing the retards who don't watch college bball but happen to be on the NCAA tourney selection committee look at as far as those 3 polls are RPI...fuck you Ken! fuck you Jeff! (Pomeroy and Sagarin, not qntm or EMCE)
2/5/2012 10:20:11 PM
So much for that whole "shit, I'm not gonna coach there, they gotta play UNC and Duke all the time!!" garbage
2/5/2012 10:20:38 PM
Does @Miami count as a good win now that they've beaten Duke?[Edited on February 5, 2012 at 10:23 PM. Reason : d]
2/5/2012 10:23:30 PM
the unc thing is just icing on the cake, it's not even about that because yea...I'm really not going to miss getting our ass handed to us twice a year.but the home and homes with georgia tech, virginia, maryland, etc...i'd much rather have those back than fucking pitt and boston college
2/5/2012 10:43:14 PM
2/5/2012 10:50:53 PM
Is this a joke? Why on earth would Madonna be a State hoops fan?

2/6/2012 2:07:15 AM
maybe since she's italian she really liked valvano?
2/6/2012 5:53:51 AM
Woohoo back to a play-in game, now we will play Seton Hall for the #12 seed to face Creighton!
2/6/2012 1:19:31 PM
2/6/2012 1:20:52 PM
2/6/2012 1:22:12 PM
I don't pay attention to seeding until the conference tournaments, I only really watch our individual games so I had no idea there was even a #12 play-in...I thought they were all 16 seeds. Why did that happen? And why does one regional have 2 play-ins and another has none at all?
2/6/2012 2:39:08 PM
The play in games are officially called the First Four. The games match up the 4 lowest conference winners against each other (for 16 seeds) and the 4 lowest at-large teams against each other (I think for 11/12/13 seeds).[Edited on February 6, 2012 at 2:57 PM. Reason : ...]
2/6/2012 2:53:36 PM
they might be called the "first four", but they are just play-in games. that's it and that's all.
2/6/2012 2:58:54 PM
"First Four" is an NCAA tourney thing, not ACC[Edited on February 6, 2012 at 3:02 PM. Reason : They are "officially" called play-in games]
2/6/2012 3:00:19 PM
^5 good call.
2/6/2012 5:26:02 PM
I was gonna say something like "cause State keeps pushing people's love over the borderline", but figured that was lame.
2/6/2012 5:48:26 PM
2/6/2012 6:24:29 PM
^5 I realize they are play in games. I was just saying what the NCAA calls it.^4 You are correct, sir. Since bdmazur was asking about the NCAA tournament, I answered about it.[Edited on February 6, 2012 at 6:27 PM. Reason : ^yup]
2/6/2012 6:27:16 PM
So if we win the games we're supposed to, and lose the games we're "supposed to"...do we make the NCAA tourney???would look like this...@ GT W@ Duke Lvs FSU Lvs UNC L@ Clem Wvs MIA W@ VT W10-6?i think we need 2 more wins, maybe in the ACCT
2/7/2012 8:18:25 AM
It's tough to say that a 10-6 ACC team that finishes 4th in the ACC doesn't make the tourney...but without a really good win, it could happen. Winning two games in the ACC tourney would help a lot. That would put us at 23-10.10-6 with no big wins and an early out in the ACC tourney gives us a 50% chance of making it in.10-6, no big wins, 2 ACC tourney wins gives us a 60% chance.10-6, one big win, 80% chance.Everything above that is 95%.
2/7/2012 8:26:55 AM
Yep, I agree. Hopefully we can pull the upset against one of FSU/Duke and cut that ACCT win total to one. Of course, we can't lose to anyone under us either or its NIT.
2/7/2012 8:30:42 AM
There has only been one 10-6 ACC not make it to the tourney... that was VT a couple of years ago and they choked to a terrible Miami team in the first round of the ACCT. Even then, they were likely the first team left out. Now there are two more at-large bids. That was also the year that the Big East was dominant and got like 9 bids. As bad as the ACC is, the pac 10 and big east are also down. No league has been so dominant that they are going to get some ridiculous number of bids.We finish 10-6 and win one ACCT game and we are in for sure. Maybe even if we lose in the first round.
2/7/2012 8:36:05 AM
UVA went 10-6 in ACC play and missed the tournament about 12 years ago.

^ hopefully, yesi'm tired of facepart of being a fan is being a fan.if face was a giants fan this year, it would have been so annoying listening to him when they were 7-7 and people were talking about them missing the playoffs.
2/7/2012 9:17:02 AM
face lives off good posts inside Sports Talk. I doubt he get those against us.He doesn't post optimistically at all. That's our main weakness defensively.Defensively he is horrid. He is hopelessly short and has zero depth.I like Sports Talk vs the spread. This has all the makings of a 30+ page thread that might only be a 15 post spread.
2/7/2012 9:23:45 AM
Drunk and sleepy and my laptop battery burned out so I'm tired of typing on phone. Can't defend myself vigorously enough. But no. Not beating duke bc we don't defend threes and can't beat unc bc we can't rebound or score on themHad $ on nyg to win division all season. Never lost hope. Objectivity is always nice
2/7/2012 9:28:10 AM
2/7/2012 9:34:47 AM
I don't disagree, the ACC is terrible this year... but there are other leagues that are down too. The Pac-10 may only get 1 or 2. If only 3 ACC teams get picked, who gets the other bids? Particularly when again, there are going to be two extra at-large bids.[Edited on February 7, 2012 at 9:40 AM. Reason : d]
2/7/2012 9:39:29 AM
We should look for a moral win against UNC. Like keep it under 20.
2/7/2012 9:41:10 AM
Lots of mid majors. Remember probably about 5-6 years back when the MVC got 7 teams and Billy Packer nearly had an aneurysm on the air? Its won't be quite to that level this year, but Murray State, San Diego State, St Marys, etc will be leading the charge from a pretty deep pool of little guys.
2/7/2012 9:41:53 AM
None of those teams will be at-large...
