The sling is great! I'm able to get things done around the house while wearing her. When she gets in my way in a front carry, I am able to wear her in a back carry with a Rebozo style wrap. Also, it helps with the reflux because they're vertical and in motion while in the sling. Good luck with it! I hope you like it.

LK, if it makes you feel any better one of the ways my mom got me to sleep as a kid was to drive me up the street and back (yeah, that's literally how long it took)IMO, there's nothing wrong with using those unconventional methods to let a kid go to sleep - as adults some of us have quirks for getting ourselves to sleep, so what's wrong with the same being true for an infant?
10/1/2011 2:32:10 AM
my cousin had to drive both of his boys around for them to fall asleep too.
10/1/2011 8:37:40 AM
Yeah, that's not unusual. We've found our glider is sufficient for the boys at actual bedtime. Been lucky there, I suppose, because our car is 780 miles away.

My mom and sister are getting annoyed and upset at my wife because she is telling them not to waste their time at Wall Mart/Babies R Us buying baby furniture. They are claiming that she is acting like she is better than them. But, she is an architect and interior designer, and she is acting just like I would expect a designer to act. Everything related to Wall Mart is hideous, and I had to drag her into Babies R Us just to scope out the prices. I just don't get them. They say that they want to help, but then they do this and refuse to help unless it is bye their country ass standards.[Edited on October 3, 2011 at 1:41 PM. Reason : fg]

Get a registry, an Amazon Baby Registry should do fine. That's what we did and I come from a strong Wal-Mart family. Also, have your wife do some Consumer Reports research. If she can back up her furniture/baby gear selectiveness as a safety issue then anyone disagreeing with her will instantly feel like an asshole.[Edited on October 3, 2011 at 3:03 PM. I'd actually use consumersearch.com instead of Consumer Reports. Consumer Reports info (at least when I was pg last year) had dated information on things like monitors and cribs and it was extremely frustrating.

It's got two arms, two legs, and baby boy parts. It's a boy!

awww congrats!

^^^ fair enough, just make sure they have some easily forwardable lists or statistics. There's nothing like a good top 5 or accident chart to hammer the point home to people who won't listen.

Our 6 mo. was sleeping pretty well, but you had to rock him for a while to get him to calm down, so we decided to finally Ferber sleep train him. LOL He was asleep in 15 minutes last night and I just put him down for a nap with him fussing for like 30 seconds. Guess since he's already used to sleeping in the crib he's got the idea.

37 weeks and full term tomorrow. woo hoo.
10/9/2011 1:10:24 PM
OMG!!! You made it!! Do you know what you are having?
10/9/2011 7:40:10 PM
^ Little Boy. He's due on Halloween. I am getting so excited, but nervous. Now every pain I get I wonder if something is starting to happen. I am so glad to be so close to actually meeting him. =)And in the last week I went from OK pregnant person to insane. I'm at the stage of being really tired of being pregnant and finding that EVERYTHING is getting on my nerves. I'm saying prayers for those that live/work with me daily. Might be a little TMI...But I lost my plug. Which I know means very little, but still at least means things are somewhat progressing down there. And man my groin area hurts. What is up with that. heh.

Did anyone have to deal with PCOS while TTC? I am really worried about this...
10/15/2011 5:25:31 PM
YAY MUCUS PLUG! Start walkin' that baby on out.--I know someone with PCOS and they were unable to conceive (they adopted). However, she has a weight problem and her insulin resistance hasn't been managed.

I have definitely been walking. Which I am going to continue to do by spending my lunchtime on this at work starting tomorrow.
10/16/2011 5:18:53 PM
My friend believes in four wheeler rides, crazy back/hand/feet rubs, and eggplant parmesan. They worked for her the last three (out of 5) times and the last two came exactly on their due dates. /old wives tales[Edited on October 16, 2011 at 5:51 PM. Reason : s]
10/16/2011 5:51:29 PM
*lol @ 4 wheelers*I've definitely heard about taking car rides on bumpy roads. Both of mine were scheduled C-sections (my babies like to come into the world ass first), so I have no advice on how to get the little suckers out.
10/16/2011 7:49:28 PM
I walked a lot and did squats like they were my job. He was still 5 days late.
10/17/2011 8:37:08 AM
Baby shows up when the baby damn well wants to show up and no sooner no matter what you do./unless "what you do" is a c-section, of course

39 weeks tomorrow and I am thinking my child will be like his daddy - late.
10/23/2011 8:42:41 AM
Wife is now at 17 weeks for our 2nd child. Should find out in a couple weeks if it is a boy (please Lord) or a girl. We already have a daughter and this daddy wants a son!
10/26/2011 7:56:38 AM
why is maternity clothing so ugly, god-awful huge (I already feel like a seacow, jeez), and expensive?
10/26/2011 4:48:26 PM
Because designers want to detract from what they think is a hideous bulge at your waist.Because designers think all women come in one of three shapes.Because people will pay for it at those prices.Ignore maternity sections, just get normal stuff that's bigger if it fits your body shape. Or get cheap stuff from thrift stores and Roses so it won't be as much of a pain in your wallet.
10/26/2011 5:45:28 PM
^^ What I did was bought maternity pants, which you can find nice ones of at places like Target sometimes, and then bought normal tops that were a bit longer than what I would normally get. Red Hen in Carrboro has some nice maternity clothes that are a fraction of what you'd pay new.
10/26/2011 7:26:53 PM
Craigslist was my friend for Maternity Clothes. I bought a ton of used ones for $50. My problem now is that since I'm at the end none of what I have been wearing really works anymore (at least dress shirts) because they are too short in the front. Hopefully I don't have to worry about it much longer. Really hoping the baby comes soon. My grandma is really ill and is so looking forward to seeing him. I'm afraid if he doesn't come really soon (like by the end of the weekend) that it may not happen.
10/26/2011 8:11:37 PM
Speaking from experience, she'll probably hold on for the baby to get here.Amelia was a few days old when my grandmother passed away. I went straight from the hospital to my grandmother because we knew that she was going to go at anytime and had a feeling that she was waiting for the baby. She was barely responsive at that point, but she roused long enough to kiss the baby when I put Amelia to her mouth. I laid the baby in the hospital bed with her and placed her hand on the baby. She stopped breathing for the first time the next day and was gone <24 hours after that. You'll be so glad to have that baby when she goes. It helps.
10/26/2011 9:01:34 PM
Yeah, go the second you can. My boys were in the NICU when my grandmother died. That was fairly depressing, but at least she'd known that she could officially add "Great" to her title Plus she'd gotten to see pictures of them within a day of them being born.Still, I wish we could have brought them to see her.
10/26/2011 9:04:47 PM
I'm plannng on going by there on the way home from the hospital. I want to make sure she has the opportunity. The sad part is that her health is very unpredictable at the moment. It could be a short period of time before she's no longer here, or it could be longer. A lot depends on her, but right now she had no will to live except to see him - she's said as much. She's not eating or drinking and is pretty severly dehydrated - they can't even do IV fluids because they can't get an IV in. Anyways, enough depressing stuff. Even more depressing because she could go on like this for awhile depending on her intake. My mom has been staying with her at the nursing home to try and get her to drink. [Edited on October 26, 2011 at 9:34 PM. Reason : grammer]
10/26/2011 9:32:57 PM
that is part of the dying process. my grand mother did the same thing. it started with food and then fluids. once she started refusing to drink, it was a matter of maybe two weeks. you really can't force them to eat or drink and a lot of medical professionals will tell you that its pointless to try. its just a part of the body shutting down. they don't feel hunger or thirst. i feel for your mother. its so hard to do that end of life care even when they're in a nursing home.
10/26/2011 9:48:12 PM
^ yep. It's hard thing... especially when there's a lot of conflicting emotions. Excitement about her own grandbaby, but watching her mom slowly die. Today was not a good day. She was asleep about 99% of the day and not very lucid the other 1%. Not much progress for me either 1cm, 75%, -2 with head engaged. They tried to strip my membranes, but there wasn't much luck since I'm not much dilated. Looks like a November baby to me.

The wife will be 20 weeks on Sunday. We found out today we will be having a girl.
10/28/2011 6:21:26 PM
we're still ttc. it feels like it's been FOREVER, but this is really just the 3rd go-round/ovulation/whatever. we started in july but skipped august bc it would have meant a due date the same day as my brother's wedding. i just thought it would have happened by now for some reason. trying not to be but it's really hard to since my period just started today, after being a day late.
10/31/2011 9:27:22 AM
While we weren't ttc, but not preventing either, I remember the feeling after getting my period or even if I was a few days late of the negative pregnancy test. It seemed like every time i turned around someone was announcing a pregnancy which didn't help my baby fever or mood either. Hang in there.

So, my friend has this amazing picture of her and her new little one the day she was born. i was looking at her little girl, so cute, and realized my friend has a VERY obvious nipple slip right by her kid's head. I should just assume she knows since she put it on facebook, right? I looked at when she posted the picture and it has been up for 6 months.]
11/1/2011 9:44:12 PM
For six months? Yeah, I'd assume that she knows. If she is ultra-conservative, I would mention it just in case she's clueless, but I'd imagine that she knows.
