Would be hilarious if pitt and cuse came out and said "we never applied to acc. dinich is full of shit."
9/18/2011 12:58:58 AM
it would also be hilarious if heather dinich went on a date with JT3bucky, b/c that's about as likely.
9/18/2011 2:21:02 AM
i dont give a damn about the acc and this is the best thing to ever happen to the acc but really bad for state basketball.
9/18/2011 2:28:27 AM
it's really not that bad. we can finish in the middle of the pack in the old acc and get no respect, or finish in the middle of the pack of a new acc and get some respect. did you not watch how much every single team from the big east got jerked off last year? if we steal all the good teams from the big east, then we too can get jerked off just the same.
9/18/2011 2:34:37 AM
it won't be as good as the big east. it will be super top heavy with 4 or 5 superpowers beating everybody. Theres no way anyone will be on the same level as duke unc texas pitt and cuse. The big east didn't have as many great teams. Our only slither of hope was people coming to accept the challenge of playing against duke and unc but now they have many more options to do that with and the whole "in the shadow" problem is even bigger now. I don't see us ever being a big time basketball program again if this goes through. I'd rather be CUSA at this point.

espn's crawl is saying they've officially been acceptedWE PLAYIN BAS-KET-BALL
9/18/2011 8:31:08 AM
Not sure why we would pick up Texas.I can see us going for UConn, though.
9/18/2011 9:06:02 AM
I hate that damn orangeman mascot.Ugh
9/18/2011 9:25:12 AM
^^I'm not sure why we would pick up UConn. If everything was about basketball we wouldn't have ever added Miami and VT. And I got the impression from last year's Fiesta bowl that a lot of their fans aren't big into football (not to mention there is no telling where that program will go without Randy Edsal).
9/18/2011 9:38:18 AM
We will never win an ACC championship in football or basketball again.
9/18/2011 9:40:31 AM
Yeah because we were in the driver's seat for a championship in both before we added Pitt and Syracuse.
9/18/2011 9:46:09 AM
You guys think im trolling because I'm not delusional enough to believe we can somehow compete with duke unc syracuse texas and pitt in basketball. It was a pipe dream with just duke and unc, now its just not plausible. Sorry to spit out the koolaid we were all supposed to have just drank. When you had a 12 team conference there was room for a 3rd great team because mathematically somebody else had to rake up wins vs the other 10 teams. It had been a mix of FSU, VT and Maryland and we had the chance to become that team consistently. Somebody was going to do it.Now in a 14-16 team conference with ~1/3rd powerhouses there is no room for someone to get by.To everyone who thinks im trolling:(specifically simonn and saps852What is your outlook on this whole thing for ncstate? Why is this good? More money? more attention? more games against top teams? Is that it? Thats success?[Edited on September 18, 2011 at 9:47 AM. Reason : be real here]

Duke, UNC, and Syracuse are all likely to undergo major changes in the next 5 years or so. 5 years from now it could be the Jamie Dixon and Mark Gottfried show for all we know. Powers come and go through the years and new ones emerge. Do you think Butler got where it is by whining about how there are too many super powers to overcome in the NCAA tournie?

every teamin the country has a chance at winning a national title so thats not a good measuring stick. Thats like saying we make a bowl game in football. A team that does not consistently finish in the top 4th of its conference can not be considered a great program. Decent programs can't reel in great coaches and decent coaches can't consistently reel in elite talent and teams without elite talent can rarely consistently beat teams with elite talent.[Edited on September 18, 2011 at 10:19 AM. Reason : at least its 3 more years of bball before they join]
9/18/2011 10:06:21 AM
hasn't there been talk about a pod system, sort of like the NFL divisions, rather than only two divisions? I would really prefer that - it would help make the regional rivalries strong even with a huge goddamn conference. Also, don't name them...Group A.PittSyracuseBCUConnGroup B.MarylandUVaVirginia TechWild Card team TBDGroup C.DukeNC StateUNCWake ForestGroup D.ClemsonGTFSUMiamiThis way every team plays round robin in basketball against its group, and always plays all three teams in its group each in football. Then each group plays another group each year, like Group D plays Group A, yankees vs deep south. I guess you might then want one bonus conference game for each team to get it up to 8 conference games/season. This way, all the herda-hadas that don't want to play more yankee schools could at least be assured it would only happen once every three seasons.[Edited on September 18, 2011 at 10:37 AM. Reason : its not it's][Edited on September 18, 2011 at 10:38 AM. Reason : asdf]

I like the idea of pods. It keeps your primary travel more localized so it'd help keep costs down, plus the regional rivalries are important and should be encouraged. But I don't think playing 1 division each year would work out that well. Maybe you play your pod, plus one guaranteed non-pod team each year (We'd play Clemson, for instance, UNC would play UVA, and so forth...). Then just alternate through the rest of the conference.
9/18/2011 10:49:17 AM
I really don't want Texas. At least the east coast thing makes sense. I'm already sick enough with these massive conferences for money's sake that do nothing but make schools more money.Get Rutgers and UConn, call it a day, put them in a grouping with BC and Cuse. Everyone shares DAT $$$ and we shut up about this forever.

9/18/2011 11:13:23 AM
9/18/2011 11:19:29 AM
Please don't add UConn and Rutgers... They bring very little to the conference...
9/18/2011 11:32:07 AM
^Agreed...definitely not Rutgers.
9/18/2011 11:33:20 AM
But, Rutgers could pair up with it's in-state rival Duke in an epic Jersey battle every year.
9/18/2011 11:35:15 AM
Why couldn't we find teams to add down south. Why the friggin CUSE and Pitt?
9/18/2011 11:39:44 AM
Yeah, like South Alabama!
9/18/2011 11:45:51 AM
^^What southern teams do you suggest? I don't think any SEC teams are going anywhere. And I'd rather raid the Big East than C-USA or some other non-BCS conference[Edited on September 18, 2011 at 11:46 AM. Reason : ]
