Well it is true that they contemplated firing him becasue of all his legal issues with women, but that doesn't seem to be the angle ESPN is implying.I think that would have been bullshit, I don't think your personal life should affect your job like that unless its serious like arrests and stuff...Not just crazy bitches looking to make a buck off successful men.

Yep just attended every home game for like 5 years now. I only support winners! Good recruits doesn't always = success.

our chances at winning are better w/ good recruits than bad recruits though.
5/1/2010 11:34:09 PM
I mean big success. To read through the recruiting thread, you would think we are going to be ACC favorites this coming year. Whatever I am still looking forward to football season even if we are without Bryan, Vermiglio, Sweezy, and Kuhn for a bit. No expectations for football might be good for once.

you being a herb fan, i am interested in your definition of "big success".

Has the insider article from ESPN.com about Lowe been posted somewhere? I wanted to read it, it is under the College Basketball homepage. Somebody let me know what thread it is in if I missed it.
5/3/2010 10:02:54 AM
I really believe that landing CJ Leslie is the final proof that we've reached the turning point for NC State basketball.I don't think we'll win the ACC, make the final four, or even definitively finish in the top 25 next year.Leslie certainly isn't Greg Oden or Kevin Durant. He's probably not Kevin Love or Brandan Wright. But we just went toe to toe with Kentucky/Calipari in a year where they produced 5 future NBA'ers and won. That's proof that we are on the national scene now.We are going to be on national television, our results will get attention, and recruits will look at NC State as a place they hope to get a mailing from let alone an official offer. The actual results on the floor NEXT season aren't as important as the track we're on now. If they underachieve and go 8-8 and get an 11 seed and lose in the first round of the ACC and NCAA tournament it would be a HUGE mistake to turn your back on Lowe now.The guy has rallied the program from the fucking dead. Look at it like you would a stock. Don't base it on it's current earnings, base it on it's forward earnings. I think we'll have a great season, I'm definitely not trying to downplay our expectations. I just think when the time comes there will be a lot of haters who will try to place the blame for every close loss at Sid's feet. The anti-crowd will find a way to get their point across no matter how irrational. And again they will be wrong in the end.
5/3/2010 7:51:31 PM
i agree, was thinking the other day that i cant remember state ever winning a head to head recruiting battle with the likes of calipariherb won against boeheim but thats not the same as caliparigood stuff

Anyone know why we don't seem to recruit New York or the NE at all? We obviously have before with Hodge and Grant.
5/3/2010 9:11:55 PM
^^^ well said. My expectations for the coming season are very low right now, not because I don't think our team can be good. One game at a time. As a fan I have to see it to believe it, not just look at the paper. But Sid is under huge pressure 'cause there's really no excuse for him.Go Sid, go Pack![Edited on May 3, 2010 at 9:19 PM. After reading that article it got me thinking It may not show itself the first couple of games, but if we could actually establish ourselves as a running team, it should great help out on the defensive glass and really cut down on all the 2nd chance points we've given up the last 4 years. Teams will have to be consciously thinking of getting back because of the pressure. It should also not allow teams to full court press with any reliability having good ballhandlers out there all the time. Man, haven't been this excited for bball since JH's senior season.
5/5/2010 9:00:28 PM
I posted this in the lineups thread, but this thread needed a bump. Man, how stupid do the haters in this thread look now that we're rolling.PG: JaviSG: BrownSF: WoodPF: LeslieC: SmithThat lineup gives us three perimeter threats to surround Tracy with so he has more room to operate in the post. Regardless of what Lowe has said about moving Tracy to the 4, we are best served with Tracy playing with his back to the basket. The ACC lost a LOT of size this offseason, and he should be deadly on the block this year.Playing Leslie at the 4 enables him to really roam and get putbacks and dropoffs from Tracy without having to waste plays with his inevitable turnovers if we run the offense through him. I like bringing Howell off the bench because he's a bit foul prone and I think he can come in against weaker front lines and really dominate with physical play and rebounding. If he plays the 4 and we bring CJL off the bench it's really no big deal, I just feel like Howell is better suited coming off the bench rather than picking up early touch fouls that ACC refs like to dole out.Harrow can provide penetration and create offense on his own so I think he's a better fit this season with CJ Williams and our second unit. Brown should complement Javi better and take a lot of pressure off him from trying to do too much. I don't like the idea of playing Harrow/Brown together in the backcourt too much this year until they get more experience. There is no reason for us to sit Scott Wood by playing CJL at the three, he should have many more open looks this year and his defense was a bright spot for us last year. He should not have to play as many minutes this year and hopefully that will help lift his shooting percentages. Also, CJL seems like the kind of player that tries to do too much with the ball in his hands so I don't want him handling the ball or taking perimeter jumpers while defenses collapse on Tracy. He will wreck our spacing if he plays the 3 in my opinion.Painter will play a limited role next year simply because we have three versatile post players ahead of him in the rotation and we can't afford not to maximize their minutes. I think Painter will develop into a solid post player and find plenty of minutes the following year when Tracy and potentially CJL are gone. He's really terrific at defensive rotations and he showed some flashes of good post moves last year in limited opportunities at the end of season. Vandenburg needs to really focus on improving his athleticism and developing a reliable move or short jumper that he can go to. We probably won't have much use for him this season, but if he can become a shot blocking/rebounding presence (think Zoubeck-lite) for his Jr/Sr seasons he could make an impact and find some quality playing time.Losing Mays is obviously addition by subtraction and will help clear minutes for more talented and effective guards. I would have liked to keep Josh Davis as I think he's a guy that helps us against midmajor type schools and can make a few hustle plays in a pinch against ACC caliber competition. Ultimately, we're better off having his scholarship for a blue chipper while we're hot in recruiting, but I don't think his defection makes us better next season. Johnny Thomas could have provided us some depth at the forward spot, and may have seen quality minutes the following year. His defection hurts us more from a leadership standpoint than a roster hole though since we have so much depth in the frontcourt. It would be awesome if CJL was able to effectively play the 3 and we could run a frontline of CJL, Howell, and Tracy at teams with Javi/Harrow in the backcourt paired with Brown but I don't see that being as effective as the lineup I proposed above. Our offense needs to be run through T. Smith, period. He's nearly impossible to stop with one man guarding him and he learned to play through double teams all last season. Last year when he kicked it out, we weren't able to make teams pay because we always had a non-shooter like Degand, Mays, Davis, CJW that teams could rotate off of. This year we should be able to bury threes and with all the fouls T.Smith draws working the post and the athleticism we add with Brown, Leslie, and Harrow we should be getting to the line a ton this year.Dangerous team if they can harness their potential.
6/19/2010 2:50:10 AM
Javi might play early in the season, but it will be over Harrow, not Brown. Point guard transition to college is the most painstaking, unless you're Lawson/Tyreke Evans, and Javi has all the experience you can ask for. Brown has undergone the intangibles of post high school organized basektball, he's ready for 25+ minutes at the ACC level to me. Harrow is not going to be asked to score 20 a night, just be a wizard with the ball, which he is. I hope they play every day with each other this summer, i know Javi will challenge them frequently in practice. I don't really care who starts but if Javi is getting above 26 minutes a game by January we will not be where we want to be, just my opinion.

Ok? We win 48-7 and you've already given up on us?We have the best QB in the ACC, we can beat anyone on the schedule any given game.
9/6/2010 11:26:44 PM
I love RW, but it is a little premature to call him the best QB in the ACC when you've got guys like Ponder, Jacory Harris, Tyrod Taylor, Nesbitt (not really a QB, but he was the 1st team all ACC QB). I personally still take RW out of that group, but Ponder or Harris are a close 2nd.
9/7/2010 7:58:27 AM
Maybe its the rose colored glasses, but I've never seen any of the other guys come close to what RW can do. They get talked up a ton in the media, and are on better overall teams, but I feel like you give RW the same defense/d coord as Tyrod Taylor has and he would put together a 10 win season.
