10/26/2010 10:01:37 PM

10/26/2010 10:20:14 PM
i just saw the Harvest series & Estate show up on the shelves today.i picked up some Left Hand Milk Stout (one beer I find myself keep going back to) and some Avery Old Jubilation (English Strong Ale / Winter Warmer), I also picked up some Stone 10.10.10 Vertical Epic and some more of the Stone Saison & San Diego Session collaboration ales.
10/27/2010 12:08:40 AM
I really wish I could get my hands on some Surly...they need east coast distributing.
10/27/2010 10:44:16 AM
^^where'd you see the vertical epic?
10/27/2010 10:55:02 AM
^he's out in CO, but a few of us have seen it in NC.

Been too long since I've hit up the Charleston Beer Exchange. Fixing a big dinner tonight with the lady (who loves hops) so I got a growler of this:Then two bottles to enjoy over the weekend. The always solid:And, trying for the first time:[Edited on October 27, 2010 at 6:24 PM. Picked up a pack of Rogue Santa's Private Reserve Ale and a pack of Harpoon Winter Warmer. I usually skip over pretty much everything by Redhook, Harpoon, or Saranac. No fault to them, i just always have. But Total Wine wasn't fully stocked with their new stuff and the guy refused to get out the case of SN Celebration that the computer told us they had in stock
10/28/2010 8:08:25 AM
what was his reasoning?
10/28/2010 9:24:09 AM
laziness and diffusion of responsibility.Man 1 "The computer says we have 1 case. Have you seen it?"Man 2 "Is that the winter beer? it should be upfront with the rest"Man 1 "it's not here. is it in the back?"Man 2 "it might be. but i doubt it"Man 1 "yeah we don't have it. But the Matthews store has a ton!"
10/28/2010 9:41:15 AM
shitty service?? At Total Wine?? I'm shocked. SHOCKED!
10/28/2010 9:53:38 AM
Ommegang Three Philosophers. Shit is delicious...
10/28/2010 11:18:55 PM
^yes, yes it is...and total wine has always amazed me with the lack of good service. It is actually exponentially bad with the older the worker is. Anyone close to my age will help me find what I need, not make me fill out extra paper work when getting a keg, etc... But if they are middle aged or older, and I want to buy even a wine key, I best have 2 forms of valid NC identification and a clean butthole, otherwise I'm shown the door!
10/28/2010 11:40:51 PM
which is why you support the superior smaller guys and not total wine.Charlotte: Brawleys Beverage near South Park. Best beer store in the state.Triangle: Sams Quick Stop in Durham near Duke.Take a few minutes for the extra drive and reward the stores (and yourself) who care about and are knowledgable about craft beer. Cheers!
10/29/2010 12:38:17 AM
delicious indeed
10/29/2010 10:58:58 AM
BevMo needs to he east. Total Wine is so comparably subpar for being in the same general niche. I, too want some SN Celebration...
10/29/2010 11:02:18 AM
Brawley's is awesome. And it's right across the street from Total Wine, so really no excuse for going to TW instead.
10/29/2010 12:10:59 PM
Ah, got my celebration at total during lunch! Cold weather tonight just in time!
10/29/2010 12:39:18 PM
Does anyone else have the problem of buying more beer than their able to drink?I picked up a growler of the Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary with some Celebration Ale as well
10/29/2010 1:50:07 PM
just picked up some sam adams winter lager. It's alright. Probably be better if it was cold
10/29/2010 1:54:48 PM
Sam winter is decent enough for a beer you can get at any grocery store. The Sierra seasonals are way better value though... Sam is so overpriced imo

10/29/2010 2:02:49 PM
i only have this problem when i get growlers from brew pubsseems like i only ever buy to go growlers when it's like last call and i get home and dont drink any. then to consume it in 48 hours can be interesting.if it's a to go growler, i dont like to wait more than a day or so after being poured
10/29/2010 2:10:27 PM
On an unrelated note, does anyone else think it's insane that Bell's is selling Hopslam minikegs this year?
10/29/2010 2:24:01 PM
they have big bottles of celebration ale at HT in Tryon Village (may have 6 packs not sure)
10/29/2010 3:50:35 PM
^^ insanely awesome? assuming these are gonna be $$$, but could make for some fun holiday gatheringsthis Hickory Stick Stout from Olde Hickory is actually really damn good
10/29/2010 10:28:18 PM
Not a fan. I can't really describe what it is about that I don't like.Really enjoyed this one. As more time goes by I'm becoming a bigger and bigger fan of bocks.
10/31/2010 10:06:33 AM
^i have those on my shelf, haven't tried 'em yet.i love dopplebocks, i have boulevards seeyoulater that's supposed to be pretty good too.

Just pulled a can of Ten Fidy out of the cellar to drink in the next couple days, it was packaged a little over a year ago...should be pretty tasty. Also I'm really looking forward to Duck Rabbit's double brown ale in the next couple weeks.
11/1/2010 12:30:40 AM
do you truely have a cellar/basement or is it a temp controlled box/room?
11/1/2010 11:40:00 AM
^^^^^ Had this last night. I still can't decide what I really thought of it. I know that such a strong hop is just plain strange coming off of such a dark malty looking beer. I know that as a brewery Stone should be very proud of themselves for this beer, and according to the back label they certainly are. Unique does not describe this beer.I found it overwhelming right off the bat. As it warmed the hops became subdued and a more of the sweet malty flavor came through. I really started to enjoy it around 1/3 of the way through the bottle. However, the last 1/3 my initial reactions resurfaced, even at it's risen temperature. Like I said, I'm still befuddled, and I will probably remain this way.Bravo, Stone.

Anchor Porter - This is a dark porter, pours with about an inch of carbonation or so. The color is a dark brown with a bit of deep ruby when held to the light. There isn't much a nose on this beer, just a hint of sweetness, possibly caramel, and roasted malts. Taste is a nice rich malt flavor with some bitterness and some signs of coffee. A nice full-bodied porter for the winter.

Enjoying my first Yakima Glory of the season:very solid black IPA from Victory
11/3/2010 10:39:19 PM
Had one of these:and one of these last night:Enjoyed first more than second, except for the 10 minutes it took me to get the was seal off. Pain. In. The. Ass.Was surprised with the chocolate/cocoa taste I was able to get out of Theobroma. Expect that out of stouts/porters, not ales. Little too sweet for my liking, think they tried to balance it out with the ancho chilis, but it just wasn't workign for me.
