after this shit, i would say you are less likely to see a steve smith fight. you might get another instance where deangelo picks up 70 penalty yds though

the only time Steve Smith has ever gotten in trouble for anything on the field (regardless of if you dislike his celebrations or attitude) is when he lightly touched a ref on the back after getting horse collared out of bounds with no flag thrown

^^i dont recall that...i recall getting up early on a couple Smith TDs and Smith being the only productive offense for us the whole game though...I recall Andre Johnson getting injured in that game as well

yeah the texans game

it was close at the end when that faggot Billy Miller

scored to put them ahead

then we were driving for the tying FG and steve kicked a motherfucker and got a 15 yarder putting us out of FG range

iirc

i remember he got a 15 yard penalty for kicking a guy who had held him down on the ground after the play but i didnt recall which game it was from

still i have a hard time blaming Smith for losing a game when he was the only offense we had during that entire game

that was our super bowl year too

of our 5 losses, that was by far the worst

The others to the Titans, Cowboys, Eagles and Falcons were somewhat explainable

Smith may be wearing out his welcome in Carolina.

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/nfceast/0-2-22/Smith-to-the-Cowboys-.html

Quote :
"There have been rumblings out of Panthers camp that club officials are fed up with Smith's actions (not just the latest incident) and are at least considering the idea of dealing him to another team.
The idea of trading one of the best receivers in football seems far-fetched, but Smith has become a divisive force on the team. One Panthers source said that several defensive backs were walking around after the recent incident saying that if management didn't discipline Smith, they would. This isn't exactly the best way to begin a season.
All that to say that I know an owner in the NFC East who has spent the last four months coveting another star wide receiver. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones struckout with Chad Johnson, the Lions' Roy Williams and Anquan Boldin, but behind closed doors, he's still pining away for someone to play opposite Terrell Owens. "

i don't care if he's a "divisive force," the panthers will SUCK if they trade him.

That seems like a giant pile of shit to me, but if it holds any grain of truth, I wonder what we could possibly want in return. Roy Williams? DeMarcus Ware? Leonard Davis? Draft picks?

that seems like BS, since the media (credible reports, not "one panthers source") said that immediately afterwards, Foxy had a team meeting and specifically addressed the topic of retaliation and its consequences.

they would be absolutely insane to trade Smitty in almost every plausable trade circumstance.

Delusional Cowboy rumor mongering.

Maybe this would have held water immediately after the incident, but from what Lucas and Smith said yesterday, I think issues have been or are being resolved.

UHOH....TRADE RUMORS GAINING MOMENTUM:

Quote :
"The Carolina Panthers are considered trading volatile wide receiver Steve Smith, according to Matt Mosley of ESPN.com

This seems unlikely, because even though Smith can be a headache, he is also one of the best wide outs in the game, and the Panthers are thin at the position without him."

For a brief moment I'll pretend that this is a legit story and not just wild speculation..

This would be the worst possible time to trade Smith. Since it's beyond June 1st, the remaining 4 years of his SB would count against next years cap. The worst possible year for us to be paying millions(well not paying, accountable for) to a player who's not on the team, seeing as how we'll be trying to re-sign Gross and/or Peppers. Also, we'd have to pay at LEAST 1st rounder we weren't planning for. Though getting close to fair value for Smith(1st+2nd/1st+a starter/more) in a blockbuster deal would eat up even more cap space we don't have. Currently, we are in the bottom 5 as far as cap space goes.

But yeah, maybe we can get Brett Favre and a cheese wedge for him!!!1

If Smitty ever thought he could not be blamed for the Panthers failure in the past (because he was our entire offense)- he now cannot think that way again. This incident is a big deal and while I normally would say things like this are blown outtof proportion - this is pretty bad. Anytime we play like crap and/or lose this season, a bit of the blame must be placed on Smitty for disrupting chemistry(especially if we start off really badly)

Ya gotta think that Fox & Hurney could certainly use this incident to help buy the fanbase into a rebuilding year mentality. I think they would be crazy to trade him after strike two, but I would put Smitty on a hotter seat than either of Hurney or Fox until he figures out a way to mix his ferocity with more discipline.

I guess we could really use a Pro Bowl safety (Roy Williams) or a badass pass-rusher (DeMarcus Ware).

Still though, their impact on the team wouldn't come anywhere near Smitty's. Now if they offered both...

^^ I seriously thought DAL was going to cut Roy Williams in the offseason, he can't cover anything. Ware is strictly a 3-4 OLB.

We'd be better off with Favre and a wedge of cheese.

^^Hell, you could be right. And yeah, true about Ware. With Peppers swapping sides, Ware would be useless at the LDE spot

we wouldnt want williams.

and nr is right, there's speculation about him getting cut, imagine the media fiasco of cutting a pro bowler

but he just doesn't have the coverage skills necessary to be effective.

and as for the mention of a rebuilding year, you cant sell a rebuilding year when you've traded your next year's first round pick off for this year... the coaching staff knows they're out of "rebuilding" years, and have to perform right now.

I wonder if anyone's ever thought of moving Roy Williams to WLB. Seems like he's about the same size as Will Witherspoon.

Anyway, I was at Starbucks in Winston this morning and ran into Catman. I always forget that guy lives here and not in Charlotte. I asked him how he thought the team would do this year and he said "SUPERBOWL BABY!" Guess that means we can mark it down.

Quote :

man, some of the best teams ever have fought

how many chins do you think MJ punched on the way to those championships?

a team coming to blows this early just means that both players are going at it...hard, which is good.

Yeha. I watched that whole 2nd half waiting to see J Stew - too bad. I thought Toefield was unimpressive but DeA looked nice running behind that 1st team zone blocking scheme. Whats up with DJ Hackett?

How bout that Terrance Holt tackle for loss in the 1st quarter? And our new Kickoff Kicker has an iron boot on him.
