Wil Shipley unhappy with "new direction" of Apple/Jobs:http://wilshipley.com/blog/2007/09/iphone-ipod-contain-or-disengage.html

damn, that was a long entry.but what's new? they are a corporation, in business to make money. if they think they can do that better with closed systems and tight-fisted partnerships, it's up to them. empowering the masses is secondary despite the notion that a focus on the customer will naturally lead to their own success in the marketplace. they've been doing pretty well with the former approach lately. who knows how long consumers will put up with that but for now they have struck a pretty good balance between pleasing their customers and pleasing their shareholders[Edited on September 21, 2007 at 4:23 PM. Apple brings to mind the old saying "You get what you pay for"
9/21/2007 4:41:35 PM
9/21/2007 5:03:58 PM
like? They still make a stellar product thats very durable, sleek in its design, and doesn't have the look and feel of 'cheap Chinese shit'
9/21/2007 5:05:23 PM
Tilted nano displays, iPhone/iPTouch screen negative black issue and ghosting, 20" iMac screen problems, repurchasing of games, songs != ringtones, tv/video out snafu, iPod audio quality reduced, and software removal of functionality (like add to calendar) in iPTouch are what first come to mind. This is simply from my day to day readings on engadget. Where usually its double-plus apple fanboi supreme there has been a definite change in tone. Apple loyalists seem to be a bit worried about these traditionally "M$" ascribed tendencies. Wil Shipley is a great example of showing that hint of worry.

when you guys play mp3s on your iphone thru the speakers...does sound come out both speakers or one?
9/21/2007 7:37:15 PM
just one
9/21/2007 9:19:03 PM
wtf kind of sense does that make?
9/21/2007 10:52:09 PM
not sure, i'm guessing its NOT a speaker but just there to make things symmetrical
9/21/2007 10:56:20 PM
One's probably the mic
9/21/2007 11:53:30 PM
^yeah im thinking the same thing
9/22/2007 4:11:20 PM
ive never seen a mic that big on a phone...usually theyre just a small hole, you can barely see them
9/23/2007 12:50:47 AM
of course the actual mic is small, but the holes are there for symmetry

k, now that thats settled (that=lack of stereo speakers on a $400ish portable music device/phone)when the iphone is ringing, the answer button is on the right, and the decline button is on he left.doesnt apple realize that we westerners read from left to right? id like to talk to the dude who arranged the buttons like that.]
9/23/2007 10:40:25 PM
^are you serious or just trolling? Because the buttons are so huge that you don't have to read which one is decline and which one is answer. generally a big RED button would indicate decline and a big GREEN button would indicate answer.
9/24/2007 1:05:53 AM
^^i have a motorola t720 and my answer button is on the right and the decline is on the left
9/24/2007 7:09:41 AM
damn dude how old is that phone?
9/24/2007 3:15:17 PM
aw snaphttp://www.engadget.com/2007/09/24/apple-finally-weighs-in-on-iphone-hacks-unlocking/
9/24/2007 5:59:32 PM
it's simple...if you have it unlocked right now, DON'T UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE. seems like a scare tactic to me. also if anyone wants their iphone unlocked contact me. i've done a couple already with 100% success and everything is working great except for visual voicemail which is an AT&T exclusive. mine is running on Suncom right now.

I just installed the update and iTunes thinks the phone is in restore mode now and is demanding that I restore it, could be a side effect of the fact that my phone used to be modded......we'll see, I'm doing the restore on it right nowUpdate: Working fine with 1.1.1 on it now, it just required a restore after the update for some reason[Edited on September 27, 2007 at 5:47 PM. Is there anyway to get all my pics off of my phone? I synced it originally to a computer I no longer have access to. So, if I sync it to this new computer, I lose all of my pictures. Unfortunately the only copy I have left of most of them is on the phone so I'd really prefer not to lose them. I know it's easy to get the pictures that you've captured off but no idea how to do the rest..Any suggestions??
9/27/2007 6:09:51 PM
just looking at Apple's homepage right now, you would never know they sell computers....
9/27/2007 6:10:02 PM
it makes sense that the newsest product line takes the home page. Before the new iPods the new imac was center stage.
9/27/2007 7:21:42 PM
Is there a date for the release of Leopard?
9/27/2007 7:49:30 PM
it'll be released thirty seconds after golovko takes steve jobs' dick out of his mouthso pretty much never
9/27/2007 8:16:05 PM
^ummm what?
9/27/2007 8:17:22 PM
uh oh.....sounds like Apple was a bit overzealous when they went after the hacked phones with the software 1.1.1 update. Now a bunch of non-hacked and non-modded phones are being bricked. this could get uglyhttp://www.scripting.com/stories/2007/09/27/appleUpdatesIphoneLegalUnh.htmlhttp://www.techmeme.com/070927/p109#a070927p109
9/27/2007 10:26:12 PM
anybody have an answer to my question??
9/28/2007 4:28:28 PM
you could try to mount it as a flash drive, but i don't know if that would require you to sync it firsthttp://www.tuaw.com/2007/09/21/use-your-ipod-touch-as-second-rate-400-usb-stick/
9/29/2007 12:40:00 AM
found a program that does it, $19 for it but wrth it. Somebody needs to write a better one tho, u have to manually select every picture which sucks when you have 3gigs worth
9/29/2007 8:56:07 AM
well "someone" needs to release a Software Development Kit so more people can easily write programs to do this kind of stuff
9/29/2007 9:31:49 AM
Agreed

10/2/2007 6:14:29 PM
What a dumb bitch. First buying a 4gb is retarded when for $100 more you get twice the capacity.Second: Where does she see the justification for $1million lawsuit for paying $100 more than everyone else (factoring in the $100 credit). I hope she loses and pays $1000's in court/lawyer fees. She must be the same woman that sued McD's for serving her 'hot' coffee. [Edited on October 2, 2007 at 6:21 PM. Reason : .]
10/2/2007 6:20:46 PM
spending $100 less when 4gb is all she needs is not retarded.. but yea, a lawsuit is a bit overboard
10/2/2007 6:46:09 PM
Over time she'll need more than 4gb.
10/2/2007 7:09:09 PM
you can't determine that
10/2/2007 7:12:06 PM
sure I can. With $1million to spend, don't you think she'll buy more songs on iTunes? On a serious note though....this isn't a nano or shuffle who's sole purpose is music. Its now a phone, shitty camera, video player, email client, etc. All that shit takes up space.[Edited on October 2, 2007 at 7:16 PM. Reason : fda]
