I just think from an operating perspective I guess, that you don't allow a HUGE game like this (Madden) to come out on your significantly more expensive system inferior to another system. You have touted this system as more powerful and the TRUE next-gen platform. So how can you allow something like this to happen after 1 year of being on the market? What i mean is Sony should have done something to make for damn sure the game comes out just as good if not better than the 360 version. They should oversee the operation to a point, do whatever they can to help. If you're trying to have the impression that your console is more powerful, justifying the higher price, then you have to actually do something to support this impression.I think this will hurt the PS3 badly. There are a lot of people that will be purchasing a next gen console just to play this game, and when they find out about this, they will go for the 360. I'm not saying that its a bad decision, just that Sony really blew it on this one. As a PS3 owner, I'm very disappointed.
7/3/2007 10:25:16 AM
it's a 3rd party software developer. sony can't help the fact that EA fucked up on this
7/3/2007 10:45:02 AM
7/3/2007 10:59:02 AM
^^ I disagree. I think Sony could have done something. They could have sent one of their developers out there to personally make sure that it gets done the right way. They could have spent some money.
7/3/2007 1:15:40 PM
^^^^ Bingo.might have just decided it for me...was going to get the PS3 but dont know now, probably leaning towards the 360
7/3/2007 1:24:13 PM
sony does need to step it up and go above and beyond the competitionsince the 360 was first, it's the default development platform for many companies and that's what is screwing up the PS3 - you can't program the same thing for the two platformsthat's the biggest problem, all we're getting are shitty half-assed portswhen someone develops from start to finish on the PS3 instead of developing it on the 360 architecture, the games look outstandingall that said, they still have a month to polish madden, the framerate will go up unless they are completely incompetent (though it is EA...)
7/3/2007 1:51:44 PM
^ I think Motorstorm is the best looking nextgen game out there, and it was developed just like that. The textures in gear may be better, but just the amount of things going on and all the physics from things blowing up and whatnot, just freaking awesome. This is the type of thing that gives me hope.
7/3/2007 1:59:14 PM
so let me get this straight...you're going to buy a console that has an alarming failure rate because the other console is just too shitty because it has games that run at the same FPS as most other games you've ever played? that's the breaking point for you?[Edited on July 4, 2007 at 12:11 AM. If I was happy with "games that I have played" I wouldnt have upgraded to begin with...
7/4/2007 12:33:49 AM
ps3>xbox360
7/4/2007 12:40:34 AM
jesus...really just go ahead and buy a 360. if you do, can you promise not to post in the PS3 threads anymore?and don't come crying to mommy and daddy in a year when you're still playing upscaled games that have to be cut so much to fit on a DVD that you wish you had spend money on a better system
7/4/2007 1:11:01 PM
i agree with motorstorm having the best graphics of any game that I have seen so far, with the possible exception of MLB 2K7 for xbox 360the games will get better, and i still use my ps3 for a lot of other stuff too. I have a bunch of blu ray movies, and i use the ps3 as my regular dvd player and as a music player when i have parties and shit.
7/4/2007 1:15:26 PM
Ninja Gaiden Sigma got some really good reviews. I never played it on Xbox so I might get it sometime. Still got too many games to beat right now as it is though.
7/5/2007 10:21:01 AM
take it for what it's worth, maybe they're announcing it at E3
7/5/2007 6:34:56 PM
for those coming here to tout their 360'shttp://money.cnn.com/2007/07/05/technology/microsoft_charge.reut/index.htm?cnn=yesMS takes a $1B hit because of the red ring. That's basically a new console for every 4 they've sold so far.

from Ben's Bargains
7/5/2007 11:41:17 PM
that was quick. i doubt it to be true
7/6/2007 8:15:48 AM
Judging from the numbers of consoles sold, I would bet that rumor is real. Sony is scared shitless right now, although their numbers are equal to what the 360 did at this point in its launch, that one year advantage gave them a sizable lead in the "war" Sony is in third place, they're banking on this price drop.
7/6/2007 8:33:37 AM
^^^ Can't see that hotlink, which is a shame.Noticed nothing was added in the PSN store last night. There was a new banner in there that is saying something new is coming or something. Looked interesting.

I seriously wonder how big of a hit Sony is taking per console now. Everything about the price drop screams like its a desperation move
7/6/2007 9:59:50 AM
^there's an article i read earlier, cant find it right now that said they estimate 3.5 million consoles are on shelves not sold right now...3.5 million x $100 = sony just lost 350,000,000 million dollars
7/6/2007 10:10:45 AM
^ they just lost 350,000,000 million dollars? So what your saying is they lost 350,000,000,000,000 dollars? Oh my sweet lord!Seriously man, you can't look at like that. A drop in price would mean many more purchases. They are losing more money obviously, but for each console they will sell software, etc. I sure didn't see it coming this soon though.
7/6/2007 10:35:50 AM
i mean if you wanna be all financial, theyre hoping that will boost sales so they really wont be losing that much but everyone is losing money on consoles so
7/6/2007 11:34:37 AM
It's about time they dropped it.I might actually buy one now.
7/6/2007 11:54:31 AM
I really feel like Sony is going to bring the pain at E3 this year w/ lots of the highly anticipated games playable (Lair, Assasin's Creed, Heavenly Sword, etc.) They will also have a few big surprises (there have been hints floating around, like Epic working on a PS3 exclusive, and Dylan Jobe [Warhawk producer] was asked which game he was most looking forward to playing he said he couldn't tell.)I think they will follow up their strong showing by steadily releasing lots of demos for these games starting right after E3.They will announce the price drop effective immediately, so all the hype they create at the show can translate to some sales. And finally, they will announce their new fancy DualSixAxisRumble controller (which actually sounds pretty cool, if rumors are true.)Maybe even a PSP redesign, which I may buy if it's slick enough.
7/6/2007 12:04:45 PM
MGS and Little Big Planet are the only killer apps on sony's radar right now. And trust me, if Konami says it's going to the 360 too next week, all hell will break loose at SCEA.They are losing money fast, and not just in the U.S. $100 price break is a good start, but the damn system needs more exclusives. Right now Little Big Planet is the only one outside of FF12 (big whoop) that I can think of. Lair and Heavenly Sword aren't anything special...Lair gameplay movies actually look not so good. Shoddy framerate, weird gameplay. Heavenly Sword is nice graphics but what's beneath the hood?

b/c god knows me saying something critical in this fanboi thread has everyone up in arms.Face it, you paid alot for your console so you feel the geek need to defend your 'investment' at every turn. I didnt say it was a bad system, I'm saying they better get to work and do something about this - as just like the PSP this reeks of bad upper management.I want the PS3 to be good, I plan to buy one eventually and I'd rather i feel the need to do it sooner actually....but it's just not there yet. Don't get all pissed that im trying to add some constructive criticism.
7/6/2007 3:07:52 PM
Dude, there was nothing constructive about your criticism... "Lair + LBP are the only exclusives on Sony's radar"... pfft You're not really adding anything to the discussion with your broad (and incorrect) generalizations. There are plenty of exclusive + nonexclusive titles in the pipeline. Warhawk, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Heavenly Sword, Lair, just to name a few.statements like these:
7/6/2007 3:20:13 PM
Yeah so anyway, when are we going to get that TWW Calling All Cars game going? I've been practicing up, pretty sure I can take you all down.

7/6/2007 6:09:33 PM
it's really easy for the wii and 360 to outsell considering the colossal fucking flops the gamecube and xbox werei mean huge fucking failures
7/7/2007 5:24:51 PM
The XBox was meant to introduce M$ to the world of video games. Given the current position of the 360, I'd say it did its job just fine. The Gamecube was Nintendo's first dive into the world of non-cartridge gaming. As a company which gets its profit from only video games, it needed to make a profit and show the world it wasn't a one trick pony. The Gamecube was Nintendo's stepping stone into the new world of consoles where it had to compete with conglomerates as opposed to companies much like itself. It wasn't very successful, but it did exactly what Nintendo needed it to do.These two consoles were not failures. Their successes were just dwarfed by the significant success of the PS2.I mean really, how can you compare the problems with the XBox and GC to the PS3? The PS3 couldn't keep a hype up past Christmas. The XBox and GC are flashbombs to the PS3s atomic bomb so far. Its not that the PS3 is terrible. Its just that it isn't performing even close to what Sony hoped it to. The XBox and GC did what they were intended to do, but the PS3 is not.
7/7/2007 5:39:11 PM
7/7/2007 5:41:26 PM
^ Sony took the extra time because their hardware wasn't ready yet. Remember all those supply problems with the Blu-Ray components they were having? Yeah, that wasn't part of their game plan, they would have launched with the 360 given the chance. And the comment on the PS2 is wrong..PS2 buy != future PS 3 buy. While the buys might help Sony stay afloat for now, they want something a victory soon, they need increased numbers soon. You can make that claim that their taking the Japanese longterm patient plan, but we're you're taking huge hits with your console sitting on the shelves, losing money every time you sell a console, and being forced into a price cut.....you need something.
7/7/2007 6:10:23 PM
^and they waited for the Blu-Ray parts, instead of releasing a console that didn't have them (i.e., MS sticking with DVD format instead of HD-DVD, which means publishers aren't allowed to use games with HD-DVD because it isn't standard).Sony doesn't give a shit who wins the market share at launch--they want to win over the next five years. Sure, they'd be in a better position if they had had a good launch (which they didn't), but don't think they're going to give up. Their plan all along has been for this console to last several years.
7/7/2007 6:34:22 PM
They've invested way to much money to give up...when did I suggest that? All I said, was this 100 price drop was a move of desperation.
